In Streamlabs, open Alert Box settings, choose the platform and event you want to edit, select a sound, and save. Then test the alert before going live.
Change a sound in Streamlabs’ dashboard
- Open Alert Box settings. Sign in to the Streamlabs dashboard and open the Alert Box settings.
- Select the event. Choose the platform and alert type—such as a new follower, subscription, or donation. Each event has its own settings, so changing one sound may not change the others.
- Choose a replacement sound. Scroll to Sound. Remove the current sound if needed, then select a replacement from the Streamlabs Sounds Library, upload an audio file you have permission to use, or provide an audio URL. In the library, browse or filter sounds; for example, search for “bells.” Catalog contents and free or premium labels can change, so check the current listing and terms.
- Save and repeat. Select the sound and save the settings before leaving the page. Repeat these steps for every event whose sound you want to change.
Streamlabs’ guide describes the available routes as an audio URL, an uploaded file, or the Streamlabs Sounds Library (Streamlabs Support, updated June 17, 2026). Its quick guide also reminds users to press Save Settings before moving to another left-side menu item (Streamlabs Support).

Change the sound in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and add an Alert Box source if one is not already present.
- Open the Alert Box settings and select the event type you want to edit.
- Change Sound by choosing available stock audio or uploading a sound you have rights to use.
- Select Done to save, using the currently documented Desktop workflow.
Interface labels can change, so if your version differs, use the Alert Box settings for the relevant event and check the current Streamlabs instructions.

Change a sound when you use OBS Studio
OBS Studio can display an alert provider’s widget, commonly as a Browser Source. Copy the alert widget URL from your provider, add it as a Browser Source in OBS, and customize the sound in the provider’s alert settings. OBS displays the widget; the provider controls its alert content and sound. OBS’s documentation points users to their chosen provider for alert images and sounds (OBS Project: Alerts and Overlays).

For Streamlabs alerts in OBS
Edit the event’s sound in Streamlabs Alert Box settings as described above. If you need to add the widget, copy its URL from Streamlabs and add it as a Browser Source in OBS. Test it after saving.
For StreamElements alerts
StreamElements confirms that its AlertBox is customizable, including sounds and variations (StreamElements Support: AlertBox Overview). Open the AlertBox in the StreamElements Overlay Editor and confirm the current sound controls in your account; menu labels and the exact procedure may vary.

Use the provider’s preview or test control after saving. Confirm that the intended event triggers the sound and that viewers will receive it through your stream’s audio output. If you record to multiple audio tracks, verify that the alert audio is assigned to a track included in the stream or recording you intend to publish.

Troubleshoot silent or duplicated alert sounds
The alert appears, but there is no sound
- Check that you changed the sound for the event that you tested; event settings are separate.
- Confirm that you saved the change before leaving the settings.
- Check the alert source’s audio routing and confirm the relevant output or recording track is included where you need it. Streamlabs troubleshooting documentation specifically flags audio-track selection for multitrack recording (Streamlabs Support: Alert Box Troubleshooting).
- Preview the alert in the provider and test it again in your streaming software.
The sound plays twice
Check whether the provider’s app and OBS are both active for the same alert, or whether duplicate sources or audio routes are sending the sound twice. These are possibilities to investigate, not universal causes. Test after disabling or correcting one duplicate route.
