Change a RedM server icon by placing a PNG that is exactly 96×96 pixels where the server can read it, then adding load_server_icon "your-file.png" to server.cfg. Save the configuration and restart the server. RedM uses the same Cfx.re command documented for FiveM; RedM’s game identifier is rdr3.
What the RedM server icon setting does
The server icon is a small image associated with your server in RedM’s server information and connection interfaces. It is configured independently from the server’s displayed name and description. The setting that loads the image is load_server_icon, and it belongs in the server’s server.cfg file.

The image requirements are strict: use PNG format and make the canvas exactly 96×96 pixels. A larger, smaller, or differently proportioned image is not a valid substitute. The filename in the configuration must match the uploaded file, and the server must be able to read that file from its configured location.

Changing the file alone does not apply the new icon to a running instance. The configuration must be saved and the server restarted. During startup, check the console for errors; hosting documentation reports that the console flags an icon whose dimensions are not 96×96.

Requirements before you start
- A source image: You can create or resize artwork in an image editor such as GIMP or use an online image converter. Export the finished file as PNG.
- Exact dimensions: Set both width and height to 96 pixels. Do not rely on an editor’s visual scaling alone; check the exported file’s properties.
- Access to the server files: You need either the files for a self-managed server or the file manager and configuration editor supplied by your hosting panel.
- Permission to restart: The icon is read when the server starts, so plan a restart after saving
server.cfg. - A precise filename: Decide on the name before editing the configuration, for example
my-server.png. The spelling, punctuation, and extension must correspond to the uploaded file.

Step 1: Create a valid 96×96 PNG
Resize the artwork
Open your logo or artwork in an image editor, set the output width to 96 pixels and the output height to 96 pixels, and export it as a PNG. If the original image is rectangular, choose how it should be fitted into the square canvas before exporting. The important requirement is the final file’s canvas size, not the dimensions of the original artwork.
After exporting, inspect the file in your operating system or image editor and verify that it reports 96 pixels wide by 96 pixels high. If the editor lists a different size, resize again and export a new copy rather than changing only the filename.

Use a short filename that is easy to type, such as my-server.png or frontier-logo.png. Keep the .png extension. The command in server.cfg must refer to this exact name.
Keep the finished file as PNG
A file renamed from another format is not necessarily a PNG. Use the editor’s PNG export option or a converter that produces a genuine PNG file. If you edit the image later, repeat the dimension check because an export can create a new file with different settings.

Step 2: Put the icon where RedM can load it
The upload location depends on how you manage the server. The goal is the same in both cases: make the PNG available in the server’s base files, in the location from which the configuration can load it.

Do not upload the file to an unrelated resource directory unless your host’s layout specifically identifies that directory as the server base location. If the server cannot find the path named in the configuration, it cannot load the icon even when the PNG itself is valid.

Use the exact configuration line
Add a line containing the command and the filename in quotation marks:
load_server_icon "my-server.png"Replace my-server.png with the actual filename you uploaded. Keep the command name exactly as shown. The icon setting is not created by changing sv_projectName or sv_projectDesc; those variables control the server’s name and description instead.
Place the line in the active configuration
Make sure you are editing the server.cfg that the running RedM instance actually loads. A machine can contain more than one server-data folder or configuration file. If you edit an unused copy, the server will restart normally but the icon will not change.

Keep one active icon line while troubleshooting. If you leave several load_server_icon entries with different filenames, it becomes difficult to determine which file the server is attempting to read. Remove obsolete lines or update the existing line to the new filename.

Save the configuration
On a self-managed installation, save the file in your editor. In txAdmin, use the CFG Editor’s Save File button. Confirm that the panel reports a successful save before restarting. If the editor has unsaved changes, a restart may use the previous configuration.
Step 4: Restart and verify the change
- Stop or restart the RedM server using your normal process or hosting-panel control.
- Wait for the server to complete startup.
- Read the startup console and look for an error related to the icon or its dimensions.
- Connect to the server and inspect the interface where the server icon is displayed.
The restart matters because the server reads the load_server_icon setting during startup. Refreshing a browser window or reconnecting without restarting does not reload a changed file into the running server process.
If the console reports that the image is not 96×96, return to the source image, export a new PNG at exactly 96×96, replace the old file, and restart again. If the console does not report a size problem but the icon is absent, work through the path and filename checks below.
Changing the icon through txAdmin
A txAdmin workflow has two separate operations: uploading the asset and editing the configuration. Completing only one of them is not enough.

- Prepare a verified 96×96 PNG and note its exact filename.
- Open the hosting panel’s Files tab.
- Upload the PNG to the server’s base resource folder identified by the host’s RedM setup.
- Open the txAdmin CFG Editor and locate the active
server.cfg. - Add or update the line
load_server_icon "your-file.png", replacing the example name with the uploaded filename. - Click Save File.
- Restart the server from the panel.
- Review the startup console for a dimension or file-loading error, then check the server listing or connection screen.
If the file manager shows the PNG in one directory while the CFG Editor belongs to a different server instance, move the file to the base folder for the instance whose configuration you edited. Panels can expose multiple instances, so verify the server name or instance selected before making changes.
Changing the icon on a self-managed server
For a server you operate directly, place the image beside server.cfg, edit that same file, and restart the process that launches the RedM server.
- Copy the verified PNG into the folder containing the active
server.cfg. - Open the file and add
load_server_icon "your-file.png". - Save the file without changing the extension or adding a second extension such as
.txt. - Restart the RedM server process.
- Check the startup output and then inspect the icon in the client interface.
Keeping the image beside the configuration makes the relationship easy to audit: the filename in the command should correspond to a file visible in the same folder. If you use a different directory layout, follow the path conventions of that server installation and confirm that the configured location is readable by the server process.

Many default server configurations include sv_projectName and sv_projectDesc. These variables set the project’s displayed name and description in configurations such as a txAdmin recipe. They do not select the icon.

Use separate lines when you want all three values:

That issue is independent of loading the PNG. Adding or correcting the project variables will not replace the load_server_icon line, and changing the icon line will not define the project name or description.
Troubleshooting an icon that does not appear
The console says the image dimensions are invalid
- Open the actual uploaded file and confirm both dimensions are 96 pixels.
- Check that you replaced the old file rather than uploading a second file with a similar name.
- Export again as PNG at 96×96, upload the replacement, save the configuration, and restart.
A filename that ends in .png is not enough if the image data or dimensions are wrong. Use the editor’s image properties or your operating system’s file details to verify the exported asset.
The command is present but the file cannot be found
- Compare the filename in
load_server_iconcharacter by character with the uploaded file. - Check for accidental spaces, a missing extension, or a second extension such as
.png.png. - Confirm that the PNG is in the folder used by the active server configuration.
- Ensure you saved the configuration that the running instance loads, then restart.
Do not assume that a similarly named file in another server-data folder will be discovered automatically. The server can only load the file available in its configured file layout.
The server starts, but the old icon remains
First confirm that the restart really completed after the configuration was saved. Then verify that the new file replaced the old one and that the command points to the new filename. If you reused the same filename, make sure the uploaded file was actually overwritten rather than stored as a duplicate with a suffix.
The icon is missing only in a particular listing or view
Community reports describe cases where an icon did not appear on the main server list but became visible after connecting by IP. These reports are not confirmed official behavior, so treat them as a possible display or listing issue rather than a RedM requirement. Before drawing that conclusion, verify the PNG dimensions, upload location, configuration line, save operation, restart, and startup console.
An image with extensive editor metadata causes display problems
One forum user reported display trouble with a PNG containing unusually large embedded editor metadata. This is a single-user anecdote, not documented platform behavior. If every documented check passes but the image still fails, export a clean copy from the image editor, keep it at 96×96 PNG, replace the uploaded file, and restart. Do not treat metadata as a guaranteed cause.
A reliable replacement procedure for an existing icon
When replacing an icon rather than adding one for the first time, use this order to avoid mixing old and new files:
- Prepare and verify the replacement PNG at exactly 96×96 pixels.
- Choose a distinct filename, such as
my-server-spring.png, or deliberately overwrite the existing file after confirming the upload succeeded. - Upload the file to the active server’s base folder.
- Change the filename in the existing
load_server_iconline if the name changed. - Save
server.cfg(or click Save File in txAdmin). - Restart the server.
- Check startup output and the client view.
Using a new filename can make troubleshooting easier because you can immediately tell whether the configuration points to the replacement. Once it works, you can remove the unused older PNG if no other configuration references it.

- The file is a genuine PNG.
- The image is exactly 96×96 pixels.
- The PNG is in the location used by the active RedM server.
server.cfgcontainsload_server_icon "exact-filename.png".- The filename and extension match the uploaded file exactly.
- The configuration was saved, including the CFG Editor’s Save File action when applicable.
- The server was restarted after the save.
- The startup console was checked for dimension or file errors.
sv_projectNameandsv_projectDescwere treated as separate name and description settings, not as icon settings.
Following those checks gives RedM the required 96×96 PNG, the correct filename, and a restart at which to load it—the three conditions that determine whether the configured server icon can be displayed.
