Change the password for the web panel that manages your server, not the Minecraft server itself. The exact path depends on whether the panel is Multicraft or Pterodactyl, whether you are an ordinary user or an administrator, and which controls your hosting provider has enabled. Multicraft users generally start in Profile; Multicraft administrators use Users. Pterodactyl users use the account password controls supplied by the panel. If you cannot sign in, use the panel’s password-reset email flow or ask the provider or panel administrator to reset access.

Identify the panel and the account you are changing
A Minecraft host may advertise a “server panel” even when it is running different software. Provider branding can also rename, hide or rearrange menu items. Before entering a new password, check the panel URL, logo and navigation so you do not change the wrong credential.

If you are unsure, ask the host which panel it runs and whether your account is a normal user, a panel administrator or only a server-level account. Do not keep trying random login pages: repeated failures may trigger rate limits or lockouts.
Change a Multicraft password
Ordinary Multicraft user
- Open the Multicraft panel address supplied by your hosting provider and sign in with your current web-panel credentials.
- Open Profile. Multicraft’s user guide identifies Profile as the destination for personal account details, but the provider may use different wording or styling.
- Choose the password-edit control. Depending on the installation, it may be labelled Change password, Edit password or appear inside an account form.
- Enter your current password, then enter the new password in both new-password fields if the form provides confirmation.
- Save the profile. Wait for a success message or a return to the profile page before closing the tab.
- Sign out, then sign in again with the new password. If the panel keeps the current session open, a fresh sign-in still verifies that the stored password changed.
If Profile has no password control, the host may have disabled self-service changes. Contact the provider or the panel administrator and include your account name and the panel address, but never send your current password.

Multicraft administrator
On a new Multicraft installation, the official installation instructions tell the installer to sign in with the username admin and password admin, then change the administrator password under Users. Those credentials are an installation-only example. Treat them as compromised on any real deployment and replace them before creating or importing servers.
- Sign in to the administrator panel using the temporary or current administrator credentials.
- Open Users in the administration navigation.
- Select the administrator account whose password must change. If several administrators exist, verify the username before editing.
- Enter a unique replacement password in the account form and save it.
- Log out and sign back in with the replacement. Update any password manager entry at the same time.
Changing an administrator’s web password does not automatically change a daemon password, an API credential or a password stored in a Minecraft server configuration. Those credentials have separate settings and should be rotated independently when necessary.
Change a Pterodactyl password
Signed-in Pterodactyl user
- Open the Pterodactyl panel URL provided by your host and sign in.
- Open the account, profile or security area. Pterodactyl is open-source, and providers can customize its branding, navigation and which account controls are available.
- Choose the password-change option, enter the existing password and enter the new password twice if confirmation fields are shown.
- Save the change and wait for the panel to confirm it.
- Sign out and perform a fresh login with the new password. Use a private browser window if you want to avoid an existing session or autofill masking an error.
The getting-started documentation cited for Pterodactyl states that passwords must be eight characters, mixed case and contain at least one number. A provider may impose stricter rules, so use a longer passphrase with upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols unless the panel rejects a character.

When a Pterodactyl administrator must create or provision a user
For installations where an administrator has shell access, Pterodactyl documents the Artisan command php artisan p:user:make for making a panel user. It is an administrative provisioning command, not a universal “forgot password” button for end users. It requires access to the Pterodactyl application directory and the permissions to run its PHP Artisan commands; many managed hosts do not grant either.
- Confirm with the provider or installation administrator that shell access and the application directory are available to you.
- Run
php artisan p:user:makefrom the Pterodactyl application directory, following the prompts for the user’s email, username, name and password. - Meet the documented minimum of eight characters, mixed case and at least one number, plus any provider-specific rules.
- Use the newly provisioned account to sign in, then set a unique password through the panel’s account controls if the host requires a normal user workflow.
Do not run this command on a managed service just because a guide mentions it. Ask the host to perform the reset when you do not control the server, database and application files.
If you forgot the panel password
Use the email reset link first
- On the panel sign-in page, select Forgot password, Reset password or the equivalent link, if present.
- Enter the email address associated with the panel account and submit the form once.
- Check the inbox, spam and quarantine folders for the reset message. Follow the link promptly because reset links can expire.
- Create a new password that meets the panel’s rules, then sign in from the normal panel URL.
Multicraft requires an administrator contact email for password resets. A host can also enable password-change notifications. The presence, sender address and branding of reset mail depend on the provider’s mail configuration, so an absent message is not proof that the account does not exist.

No reset message arrives
- Verify that you used the email address actually attached to the panel account, not a billing or Minecraft account address.
- Wait briefly and request one new message rather than repeatedly submitting the form.
- Search for the provider’s panel name and check spam, quarantine and mailbox forwarding rules.
- Ask the hosting provider or panel administrator to confirm whether self-service resets are enabled and whether the account has an administrator contact email.
- Do not send a password, reset token or full mailbox credentials in a support ticket.
On a privately operated panel, the administrator may need to reset the account directly. On a managed host, only the provider can correct a broken mail configuration or issue a manual reset.
Keep the different Minecraft credentials separate
Web-panel login
This is the username and password used to open Multicraft or Pterodactyl in a browser. Changing it controls access to panel functions such as console, files, schedules and server controls, subject to the permissions assigned to the account.
Multicraft daemon password
Multicraft uses a daemon password between the service daemon and the panel. It is configured in multicraft.conf and in the corresponding panel setting. It authenticates service-to-panel communication, not a human’s browser login. Rotate it only through the daemon and panel configuration process, during a planned maintenance window, and verify that the daemon reconnects afterward.

Minecraft server or game password
A particular server setup may contain a password or other credential in server.properties or an installed plugin. That value governs a game-server feature, not panel authentication. Editing it will not repair a failed panel login and may affect players or automation that rely on the game setting.
Do not regenerate Pterodactyl’s APP_KEY
Pterodactyl uses the environment value APP_KEY to encrypt sensitive data, including API keys. Its documentation warns that if the key is lost, encrypted data is irrecoverable even with database backups. A routine user-password change does not require changing this key.
- Do not replace or regenerate
APP_KEYwhile trying to fix a forgotten web password. - Do not copy a new application key from an online example into a working installation.
- If the key is already missing or has been changed accidentally, stop making configuration changes and contact the installation administrator; recovery is a separate incident from password reset.
What to do immediately after saving a new password
- Test a new sign-in in a private browser window or a separate browser profile. This confirms the password itself rather than an existing cookie.
- Sign out of other sessions if the panel offers session management. Not every host invalidates old sessions automatically, so treat session behavior as provider-specific.
- Replace the old entry in your password manager with the exact panel URL, username and new password.
- Remove the old password from shared notes, chat messages, screenshots and deployment documents.
- Check automation separately. Scripts, API clients and service integrations may use tokens or daemon credentials that are unaffected by a web-password change.
- If you suspect someone else knew the old password, review administrator and user accounts, remove unknown accounts and rotate related API or service credentials according to your provider’s procedure.
Troubleshooting by symptom
“The password is wrong” immediately after the change
- Confirm that the browser is using the new value rather than an autofilled old password. Type it manually once.
- Check keyboard layout, capitalization and trailing spaces from a copied value.
- Use the panel’s reset flow instead of guessing if the account may have been locked.
- Verify the panel hostname. A provider may expose separate customer, administrator and server-panel URLs.
The new password is rejected
For Pterodactyl, satisfy the documented minimum of eight characters, mixed case and at least one number. A host can require more. For Multicraft, follow the rules shown by the particular installation; if no rule is displayed, choose a long, unique passphrase and avoid characters the form visibly disallows.
The Profile or account menu is missing
Your host may have disabled self-service changes, assigned a restricted role or replaced the standard navigation. Ask the provider which role can change the password. Do not attempt to edit database rows or configuration files without a tested backup and administrator guidance.

An administrator cannot use the Pterodactyl Artisan command
The command requires the correct application directory, PHP environment and file permissions. A managed provider may intentionally block shell access. In that case, open a support request with the account email and panel URL; the provider should perform the reset through its supported administrative process.
A reset email link reports an error
Request one fresh link, use the newest message and open it in the same browser where you began the reset. If it still fails, the provider must check its mail and application configuration. Do not alter APP_KEY or database records as a workaround.
A safe decision path
- Know the panel: identify Multicraft, Pterodactyl or another provider-specific panel.
- Know the account: distinguish ordinary user, administrator, daemon and game-server credentials.
- If signed in: use Multicraft Profile, Multicraft administrator Users, or the Pterodactyl account controls.
- If locked out: use the panel’s email reset flow; escalate to the provider or panel administrator when mail or self-service is unavailable.
- Afterward: verify a fresh login, update your password manager, review sessions and rotate only the related credentials.
This approach changes the browser login without disrupting daemon communication, Minecraft gameplay settings or Pterodactyl’s encryption key.
