Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIn Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, change your Activision Display Name from Options > ACCOUNT > Activision Account > CHANGE DISPLAY NAME. You need an available username change token to save a new name. Activision also documents an online method through your account’s Basic Info page.
Change the name in Modern Warfare
- From the game’s home screen, open Options.
- Go to ACCOUNT, then select Activision Account.
- Choose CHANGE DISPLAY NAME.
- Enter the display name you want and confirm the change. The change uses a username change token, as described in Activision’s Modern Warfare account-registration instructions.
Activision does not specify a current game build or list platform-specific menu variations in that article. If the labels in your installation differ, follow the labels shown in your game or use the online route below.

Change it through your Activision account online
- Sign in to your Activision account.
- Open BASIC INFO.
- Select EDIT beside ACTIVISION ID.
- Enter the display name you want and save.
This is the alternative route in Activision’s Modern Warfare support article. Verification prompts may vary by account or session; the article does not say they are identical for everyone.
How username change tokens work
Activision says an account receives one new username change token every six months and can hold up to two tokens at a time. You need an available token for a name change. The support article describes a token as an account entitlement; it does not describe a physical token for purchase.

What your Activision Display Name includes
The Activision ID is the Display Name shown in-game. It includes a hash mark and a numeric suffix, for example DisplayName#1234567. Activision says the number is unique to the Activision account, so players can use the same platform name—such as a Gamertag, PSN ID, BattleTag or SteamID—while remaining distinguishable in-game.
Why a name might be changed or rejected
Activision says its name filtering was updated after the Modern Warfare Beta to restrict profanity and other names players might find offensive; names in that category were replaced with randomly generated names. Its Terms of Service also reserve the right to change or remove names it considers offensive or improper. The support article does not publish the complete current filter, so a proposed name is not guaranteed to be accepted.
