On a Surface running Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, then adjust Click sensitivity if it appears. In Windows 10, use Start > Settings > Devices > Touchpad. The available controls vary by Surface model and keyboard, so the option may not be present on every device.
Change click sensitivity in Windows Settings
- Connect the Surface to its keyboard or Type Cover. Microsoft recommends doing this before opening touchpad settings. See Microsoft’s Surface touchpad instructions.
- Open the Touchpad page. In Windows 11, select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad. In Windows 10, select Start > Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Find Click sensitivity and choose the available setting that suits you. Microsoft does not publish a numeric sensitivity scale for this control, and its presence depends on the device.
First identify what is clicking too easily
A touchpad can register a click from a physical press or from a tap gesture. If a light touch or brush is triggering the problem, check the tap-related controls on the Touchpad page rather than assuming physical press sensitivity is the cause. Surface touchpads support both physical left- and right-button presses and tap gestures; these are separate interactions. When Adaptive Touch is available
Some newer Surface devices provide Adaptive Touch options in the Surface app. Open the app, select the connected keyboard if needed, and choose Touchpad settings. Adaptive Touch includes adjustments such as the right-click region size and the interval required to register a double-click. Microsoft’s support page says that other options, including Click sensitivity, may be in Windows Touchpad settings; it does not promise that every device has that control. If Click sensitivity is missing
- Confirm your Windows version and follow its matching Settings path.
- Check the exact Surface model and keyboard, and whether the device is connected to its keyboard or Type Cover.
- Look for other relevant touchpad controls, such as tap settings, if the issue is accidental taps rather than physical presses.
Microsoft’s reviewed guidance does not provide an exhaustive availability list for Click sensitivity across every Surface model. If the control remains absent, the documentation does not establish that your device supports it.
