To change the text keyboard on a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings, search for Samsung Keyboard, and open its settings. From there, you can adjust options such as language, layout, theme, size, typing mode, and typing tools. You can also open a text field, bring up Samsung Keyboard, and tap its Settings icon in the toolbar. The exact options and menu labels depend on your device and software version.
Open Samsung Keyboard settings
- Use Settings search: Open Settings, search for Samsung Keyboard, then tap the matching settings result. On some devices, the menu is under General management > Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Use the keyboard toolbar: Open an app with a text field, tap the field to show Samsung Keyboard, and tap the keyboard’s Settings icon. If the icon is not visible, look for it in the toolbar or expand the toolbar if that control is available.
These controls apply to Samsung Keyboard. If your phone is set to another keyboard app, open that app’s settings instead. Samsung notes that screens and features can vary by model, carrier, region, and software version. Change the keyboard language
- In Samsung Keyboard settings, tap Languages and types.
- Tap Manage input languages.
- Turn on a language that is already downloaded, or use the download control for an available language and then enable it.
Once multiple languages are enabled, you can switch between them from the keyboard. The switch control and its location can differ by version. For current steps, see Samsung’s language and keyboard settings instructions.
Choose a layout, theme, size, or typing mode
Look for settings such as Layout, Theme, Size and transparency, or Mode. Their names and grouping are not identical on every Galaxy device.

- Layout: Adjust the keyboard arrangement or available symbols where your device offers those controls.
- Theme: Choose a supported appearance for the keyboard.
- Size and transparency: Resize the on-screen keyboard to suit your screen and typing posture. Transparency controls may be available for some keyboard modes.
- Mode: Standard mode uses the usual full-width keyboard. One-handed mode moves or narrows it for easier reach; floating mode lets you position a smaller keyboard. Split mode is available on supported tablets, not universally on phones.
Samsung lists these kinds of adjustments in its phone settings guide and Galaxy tablet keyboard guide. The tablet guide’s expanded settings apply to compatible tablets running Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1 or later; do not assume every tablet or phone has the same controls.
Set typing tools and feedback
Depending on your device, Samsung Keyboard settings may include predictive text, text corrections or auto replacement, text shortcuts, voice input, custom symbols, and touch or swipe feedback. Enable only the assistance you want; the labels and available choices vary.

The keyboard toolbar can provide shortcuts to features such as emojis, stickers, GIFs, voice input, and settings on supported devices. Samsung says toolbar availability depends on the model and software version. If you do not see it, check the keyboard settings for a toolbar option; Samsung’s toolbar instructions cover supported devices.
If the instructions do not match your screen
- Search Settings for Samsung Keyboard rather than relying on a fixed menu path.
- Confirm that the active keyboard is Samsung Keyboard; a different keyboard app has separate settings.
- Check for software updates and remember that feature availability can vary by device, carrier, and country.
- If you use a tablet, distinguish its on-screen keyboard settings from settings for an attached physical keyboard.
Samsung’s instructions are region-specific in places: its Canada guide applies to devices sold in Canada, while the US tablet guide describes tablet features separately. Older instructions, including Samsung Philippines’ 2022 keyboard settings guide, may use labels that have since changed.
