To stop vibration for Messages notifications without disabling vibration elsewhere, open Settings > Notifications > Messages > Sounds > Haptics and choose None. You can also choose another pattern, create a custom one, change the alert for one contact, or turn off all iPhone vibration. These options have different scopes.
Turn off vibration for Messages notifications
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then Messages.
- Tap Sounds, then Haptics.
- Select None.
This disables the Messages haptic while leaving you free to manage other notification settings separately. Messages will still arrive in the app. For Apple’s instructions, see Stop, mute, and change message notifications on iPhone.

Choose a different vibration or make your own
To replace the current pattern, return to Settings > Notifications > Messages > Sounds > Haptics and select another option. To create a pattern, tap Create New Vibration and record one. Apple also documents text-tone and haptic choices in Change iPhone sounds and vibrations.
Change the alert for one contact
To customize a person’s text alert rather than changing Messages for everyone, open the one-to-one conversation in Messages, tap the contact icon, then open the contact information and edit controls. Tap Text Tone to choose a tone and haptics pattern, or set them to None. You can also mute a conversation with Hide Alerts.

Turn off vibration for every alert
If you want no vibration anywhere on the iPhone, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch and turn off Vibration. This is a device-wide setting, not a Messages-only change. Apple warns that it also turns off vibration for earthquake, tsunami, and other emergency alerts. See Turn off vibration on iPhone.
Silent mode and Do Not Disturb are different
Silent mode stops rings, alert sounds, and other sound effects, but the iPhone may still vibrate. If the goal is no vibration for message notifications, set the Messages haptic to None. Apple explains this distinction in its Silence iPhone guide.

Do Not Disturb can suppress incoming text tones and notifications while it is active, making it useful for a temporary quiet period. It does not replace the persistent Messages haptic setting.

Labels and navigation can vary with the installed iOS version and region. Use the Settings search field to look for Messages or Haptics, or consult the Apple guide for the software on your device.
