Find iCloud settings on your iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen. If your name is not shown, look for Apple Account.
- Tap iCloud.

Choose which apps use iCloud
- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
- Tap See All beside Saved to iCloud.
- Choose an app or feature, then change its iCloud setting.
When iCloud is enabled for an app, its information can be stored in iCloud and kept in sync across your devices. If you turn iCloud off for that app, it stops connecting with iCloud and its data remains only on that iPhone. Check what you need on other devices before disabling it. See Apple’s instructions for changing which apps use iCloud.

Make a backup now
- Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
- Tap Back Up Now and stay connected to Wi-Fi until the backup finishes.
The iCloud Backup screen shows when the last backup was completed.

Turn on automatic backups
In Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup, turn on Back Up This iPhone. Apple says automatic backups require the iPhone to be connected to power and Wi-Fi, with its screen locked. If there is not enough iCloud storage, follow the storage options shown on the device. More detail is in Apple’s iCloud backup instructions.
Review and free up iCloud storage
Open Settings > [your name] > iCloud to see how your storage is being used. Apple’s cited support guidance states that an account includes 5 GB of free iCloud storage; the page does not state a publication year for that figure. This space is shared by items such as iCloud backups, iCloud Photos, and iCloud Drive.

When iCloud storage is full, the iPhone cannot back up to iCloud, new photos and videos will not upload to iCloud Photos, and iCloud Drive and other iCloud apps will not stay up to date. iCloud Mail may also be affected. Review Apple’s iCloud storage guidance for the options available on your device.
- Check the storage categories and remove files or old backups you no longer need.
- On iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later, look for Recommended for You if it appears.
- You can review backups and turn off backup for selected apps. Doing so also removes that app’s existing information from iCloud.
- Save a copy of important data before deleting it. If you need more space, review the iCloud+ options available in your region.
Change iCloud Drive settings
- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Drive.
- Turn on Sync this iPhone to enable iCloud Drive on this device.
- To control app access, return to iCloud and tap See All beside Saved to iCloud.
On supported systems, iCloud Drive is available in the Files app. Files are accessible on devices signed in to the same Apple Account, subject to available iCloud storage. See Apple’s iCloud Drive setup instructions.

Change iCloud Photos settings
- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
- Choose the available photo-sync and storage options. Optimize iPhone Storage can reduce the space used on the iPhone while keeping the originals in iCloud.
iCloud Photos syncs your library across devices. Changes made on one device—including deleting a photo—also affect devices using the same library. Deleting synced photos is therefore not simply a local-only cleanup. Apple explains the options in its iCloud Photos setup guide.

App sync and iCloud Backup serve different purposes: app-level controls keep supported information connected through iCloud, while iCloud Backup creates a backup of the iPhone. Storage is shared across iCloud services, so a setting that uses less space on the iPhone does not necessarily reduce iCloud usage.
