FireShot’s save location depends on its version and save mode. The free version uses the browser’s default Downloads folder; FireShot may place captures in a FireShot subfolder there. You can change the browser’s Downloads location to move that base folder, or adjust FireShot’s subfolder setting. FireShot lists saving to an arbitrary folder, including a cloud folder, as a Pro feature.
First, identify which folder you want to change
There are two separate locations to consider:
- The browser’s Downloads folder: This is the base location. Changing it affects downloads from the browser generally, not just FireShot.
- FireShot’s own subfolder: In a documented Chrome example, FireShot saves into a
FireShotsubfolder inside the browser’s Downloads folder. FireShot Options lets you change that subfolder; leaving its field blank uses the parent folder.
If you only want to stop FireShot from creating its own subfolder, look for the FireShot folder or default output folder setting in FireShot Options. If you want to move all browser downloads, change the browser’s Downloads location instead. Labels and available controls can differ by browser and FireShot version.

Change FireShot’s save folder
- Open FireShot Options. In the browser, open the FireShot extension’s menu and choose its Options or settings page. The exact route and wording vary by browser and version.
- Find the save-location control. Look for a setting named something like “default output folder,” “Save location,” or “FireShot folder.”
- Choose the change that matches your goal. If the setting controls FireShot’s subfolder, change its name or clear the field to use the parent Downloads folder. If you need to change the base folder, use the browser’s Downloads settings.
- Save the setting and take a test capture. Check the resulting file’s location. If it still goes somewhere unexpected, confirm whether the browser or FireShot controls that part of the path.
Change the browser’s Downloads folder
When FireShot uses the browser’s Downloads folder as its base, moving that folder changes the destination for other browser downloads too. Open your browser’s settings and search for “Downloads” or “download location”; the exact menu path varies by browser and release. Change the location there, then make a test capture in FireShot.
FireShot’s support example describes Chrome on Windows and dates from 2017. It is useful for understanding the distinction between the browser’s base folder and FireShot’s subfolder, but it is not a guarantee that every current browser or extension version presents the same controls.

Need a separate folder or cloud destination?
FireShot’s current onboarding identifies the browser’s default Downloads folder as the free-version destination and saving to any folder, including cloud folders, as a Pro feature. Do not assume the free version can select an arbitrary path. FireShot Pro’s older manual also describes choosing a folder or specifying a destination for an image, but its screens may not match the current interface.

Troubleshooting
- The capture still goes into a FireShot folder: Check FireShot Options for its own subfolder setting. A Chrome support example says clearing that field uses the parent folder, though the setting may differ in newer versions.
- Other downloads moved too: You changed the browser’s Downloads location, which is shared with general browser downloads. Set that location back if you wanted to change only FireShot’s subfolder.
- You cannot select another drive or cloud folder: The free version is described as using the browser’s default Downloads folder; FireShot lists arbitrary and cloud-folder destinations as Pro features.
- The setting names do not match: FireShot’s documented support example is from 2017 and specific to Chrome on Windows. Look for equivalent save-location or output-folder controls in your installed version rather than relying on an exact menu path from that older example.
