To customize the controls you can reach while shooting, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Customize. Choose which controls appear and arrange their order. For faster repeated shutter taps, use a different setting: Settings > Camera > Prioritize Faster Shooting. These options affect different parts of taking a photo.
Customize the Camera Control overlay
- Open Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Customize.
- Select the controls you want available in the Camera Control overlay, then change their order to suit the adjustments you use most.
Camera Control is available on supported iPhone models, and the controls shown can vary with the camera mode. Apple’s Camera Control guide explains the available gestures and customization.

Open the overlay and adjust a setting
- In Camera, click Camera Control to open the camera.
- Lightly press Camera Control twice to show the available controls.
- Swipe to the control you want, lightly press to select it, then swipe to adjust.
- Click Camera Control to take a photo.
The control you selected appears the next time you lightly press Camera Control. Not every control is available in every camera mode. A click-and-hold records video; if Camera opens in Video mode, clicking starts recording.
Choose how Camera Control opens Camera
Go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control and select Single Click or Double Click. Single Click takes one click to launch Camera; Double Click adds a step and may suit you if you want to reduce accidental launches. This setting changes the launch gesture, not the controls in the overlay.

Adjust gesture sensitivity and timing
If light presses or swipes are difficult to use reliably, open Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control. Apple provides options to enable or disable light-press and swipe gestures, adjust the force needed for a light press, and change how quickly you must make a double light-press. You can also turn Camera Control off or assign it to Magnifier. See Apple’s Camera Control accessibility guide for the options.
Lock focus and exposure with Camera Control
To keep focus and exposure from changing while you compose a shot, turn on Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Lock Focus and Exposure. In Camera, lightly press and hold Camera Control until AE/AF Lock appears. Keep contact with the control to maintain the lock; releasing it turns the lock off. This is a separate shooting aid, not a faster-launch setting. Apple’s Camera Control guide documents the gesture.

Use Prioritize Faster Shooting for rapid shutter taps
Settings > Camera > Prioritize Faster Shooting affects image processing so the iPhone can capture more photos when you rapidly tap the Shutter button. Apple says the option is on by default; you can switch it off in the same location. It is distinct from customizing Camera Control: it addresses repeated shutter tapping rather than the launch gesture or overlay controls.
