For Android Auto connected to a phone, change location access in the phone’s Android settings—not in a universal Android Auto weather-permission menu. Check that device-wide Location is on, then review location permission for the Google app or service that supplies the feature. If your car runs Google built-in, its in-car permission controls are separate.
Change location permission for Android Auto on your phone
- Turn on device-wide Location. On your Android phone, open Settings > Location and check the main Location control. An app’s permission alone may not provide a current location while device Location is off. Google’s Android Location help describes this setting.
- Open the app-permission list. Go to Settings > Location > App location permissions, then select the relevant app and review its Location access. Google notes that labels and paths vary across Android versions and device makers.
- If that path is unavailable, use App info. Open Settings > Apps > [app] > Permissions > Location. You can also search Settings for “Location” or “Permissions.” Google’s app-permission instructions cover the general controls.
For Android Auto navigation, Google says Google Play services for device connections may use location. Check Google Play services if it is listed and relevant on your phone; also review Google Maps or Android Auto permissions if those apps are present and involved in the feature. The permission setup differs by device, so do not assume every phone exposes the same app list or labels. Google’s device-connections documentation explains the location use for Android Auto.

Check location access for Assistant weather answers
If you ask Google Assistant for local weather, review location access for the Google app or Assistant-related service shown on your device. Google says Assistant location access can improve local answers, including weather. One documented route is Google Home > App info > Permissions > Location; the exact app and menu names may differ on your phone. See Google Assistant’s location help.

Location permission can support navigation or location-aware Assistant responses, but that does not establish which app or service provides a particular weather display.

If weather still shows the wrong place
- Check whether your current location works in another app, such as Maps. This helps distinguish a general location problem from an issue with one weather or assistant service.
- Identify which app or assistant is supplying the weather information, then check that app’s Location permission using the phone settings paths above.
- If the location works elsewhere and the permission is enabled, the cited Google help does not establish a universal Android Auto weather fix. Avoid changing unrelated permissions on the assumption that they control the displayed forecast.

Google built-in runs on compatible vehicle systems; it is not the same setup as Android Auto projected from a phone. For a built-in system, use the car screen’s permission controls: the documented path is Settings > App permissions, with location controls potentially under Settings > Privacy > Location. Manufacturers can change these menus, so consult the vehicle’s interface or manufacturer guidance if the paths differ. Google’s built-in-car privacy and permissions help describes the distinction. It says, “General apps usually do not affect driving functions,” in the context of distinguishing general apps from driver-assistance apps in cars with Google built-in; this is not a statement about every Android Auto phone permission.
