To redirect an ASIC Bitcoin miner, identify its exact model and firmware, copy the current Stratum URL and port from the mining pool’s official setup page, enter the pool URL, worker/user name and password in the miner’s pool configuration, then save and restart when the interface or manual requires it. Confirm the new pool is active in the miner’s status page and that the worker appears on the pool dashboard.
The labels and restart behavior differ among Bitmain Antminer, WhatsMiner and Canaan Avalon devices. A setting that works on one model should not be assumed to work on another.

What you need before changing the settings
Have these details ready before opening the miner’s configuration page:
- Exact miner model: Read the chassis label or the device-information page. Record the model family and hardware variant.
- Firmware version: Menus, API routes and restart behavior can change between firmware releases.
- Pool account or sub-account: The pool may require an account name, a sub-account, or another identity before a worker can submit shares.
- Current pool instructions: Copy the pool’s currently published Stratum hostname, port, worker naming format and password requirement. Do not rely on an old blog post or a screenshot.
- Local management access: You need the miner’s web interface or the manufacturer’s documented API, plus an administrator account.
- Maintenance window: Applying a pool change can restart hashing. Make the change when a short interruption is acceptable.
A pool URL is normally a Stratum endpoint consisting of a hostname and port. The worker field is the identity the pool uses to label shares from your machine. It is not a universal Bitcoin protocol string: every pool can define its own account and worker convention.

Get the authoritative URL, port and worker format
Open the selected pool’s official setup page for your miner or ASIC software. Record the values exactly as shown, including capitalization, punctuation and port number. Some pools use an account name followed by a separator and worker name; others require a sub-account, wallet identifier or a pool-specific username. Password instructions also vary. A pool may accept a placeholder password, require a token, or tell you to leave the field blank.
Do not treat examples in older support articles as current connection details. Bitmain’s “Connect ANTMINER A3 to Pools_Antpool” article was created January 29, 2018 and updated April 6, 2022. Its sample worker format, sub-account.miner name, demonstrates how the fields are arranged, but its listed endpoints and password examples are historical. Check the pool’s current documentation immediately before making the change.
Copy values without changing their meaning
- Use the complete Stratum address, including the protocol prefix if the pool publishes one.
- Keep the published port attached to the hostname. A correct hostname with the wrong port can appear offline.
- Enter the worker exactly as the pool specifies. Spaces, dots, dashes and capitalization can matter.
- Use the pool’s stated password instruction rather than inventing a password.
- If the pool publishes several regional or backup endpoints, choose only endpoints that are valid for your account and location.
Change settings in the miner’s web interface
Most web-managed ASICs place these fields under a page named Miner Configuration, Pool or General Configuration. The exact labels differ by model and firmware, so use the device manual if the menu is different.

- Connect to the local management page. From a computer on the same trusted network, open the miner’s current local IP address in a browser. Sign in with the administrator account. If you do not know the address, use your router’s client list or the discovery method documented for the miner.
- Open the pool configuration page. Look for Miner Configuration, Pool Configuration or a similarly named section. Do not edit network settings unless the pool change requires them.
- Replace the primary pool URL. Paste the current Stratum hostname and port from the pool’s official instructions. Remove obsolete text rather than appending the new endpoint to it.
- Set the worker or user field. Enter the pool-specific account and worker format. If the pool expects
account.worker, enter both parts; if it expects a sub-account or wallet identifier, follow that format instead. - Set the pool password. Enter the value or placeholder required by the pool. Do not assume the miner’s administrative password belongs here.
- Configure backup slots only when valid. Many miners offer Pool 1, Pool 2 and Pool 3. Put a real, reachable endpoint and valid worker credentials in each slot you intend to use. An invalid backup can cause confusing failover or repeated connection attempts.
- Save or apply the form. Wait for the confirmation message. Do not close the browser or remove power while the device is writing its configuration.
- Restart as directed. Some interfaces restart automatically; others require a separate reboot. Follow the on-screen instruction and the manual for your exact firmware.
Bitmain’s Antpool support procedure says to choose Save & Apply; that guide states that the miners will restart. Canaan’s Avalon A10 API manual, by contrast, says a pool change takes effect after a reboot. These are model-specific behaviors, not a universal rule.
Manufacturer-specific configuration paths
Bitmain Antminer
For ordinary administration, use the web interface described above. Bitmain’s API documentation also describes explicit pool configuration fields. A GET request to /cgi-bin/get_miner_conf.cgi retrieves configuration, and a POST request to /cgi-bin/set_miner_conf.cgi writes it. The documented pool objects contain url, user and pass fields, with up to three pool entries shown in the example.
The API reference documents pool-status fields that can be used to check whether a configured pool is alive and which pool has priority. Exact routes and fields can depend on the miner and firmware, so verify that your model exposes these endpoints before automating anything.

Bitmain also records a firmware-era caveat: on firmware versions before May 20, changing only the operating mode without changing the pool could reset pool settings. If you are maintaining an older device, inspect the saved pool values after any mode change instead of assuming they persisted.
WhatsMiner
MicroBT’s WhatsMiner API reference documents the set.miner.pools command. Its pool objects include a pool address, worker and password, and the reference allows up to three pools. The command parameter is encrypted and Base64-encoded. That makes it a specialized API operation, not a string to paste into a generic HTTP request.
Use the official API documentation for the exact WhatsMiner model, obtain authorized credentials, and generate the parameter in the format the device expects. If you only need to redirect one miner, the supported web interface is usually less error-prone than constructing an API payload.

Canaan Avalon A10
The Avalon A10 API manual documents a setpool command with pool address, worker name and worker password parameters. The manual explicitly says the new configuration takes effect after reboot. Use the manual for the exact A10 firmware in service; other Avalon generations can expose different commands or fields.
Web interface versus API: which route should you use?
| Route | Best suited to | Authentication or encoding | Restart behavior | Verification information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miner web interface | One-off changes or a small number of devices | Device administrator login; labels vary by firmware | May restart automatically or request a manual reboot | Pool page and miner status page |
| Bitmain API | Supported Antminer models and controlled local automation | Bitmain’s example uses HTTP Digest authentication in a local-network request | Depends on the model, firmware and operation | Pool objects and documented status fields |
WhatsMiner set.miner.pools |
WhatsMiner automation using the manufacturer’s API | Pool parameter is encrypted and Base64-encoded | Follow the exact model/API documentation | Use the device status and pool dashboard |
Avalon A10 setpool |
Authorized Avalon A10 API administration | Follow the Avalon manual and its authentication requirements | Manual says a reboot is required | Check the post-reboot miner state and pool account |
Do not expose a miner’s management interface directly to the public internet. Keep administration on a trusted local network or through a properly secured private connection, change default administrative credentials, and avoid copying credentials from sample commands. API authentication and encryption are manufacturer-specific.

How to confirm the new pool is working
A saved form does not prove that shares are reaching the intended account. Verify both the miner and the pool.

- ✅Premium Aluminum Construction: Constructed from high-quality aluminum for enhanced durability and heat dissipation, ensuring longevity and optimal performance.
- ✅ Accommodates 8 GPUs: Designed to house up to 8 graphics cards, providing ample space for expanding your mining setup and maximizing efficiency.
- ✅ Superior Airflow and Cooling: Engineered with optimized airflow design to prevent overheating and maintain optimal operating temperatures for prolonged mining sessions.
- ✅ Easy Assembly: Simple and straightforward assembly process allows for quick setup, getting you up and running in no time.
- ✅ Sleek and Space-Saving Design: Compact and minimalist design saves space while adding a professional touch to your mining rig setup.
- Open the miner’s status page after the restart. Confirm that the displayed pool URL matches the new hostname and port.
- Check activity and priority. Look for an Alive, Active or equivalent status and confirm that the intended pool has the expected priority. If a backup pool is active, the primary may be unreachable or its credentials may be invalid.
- Check the worker identity. Make sure the status page shows the worker/user string you entered, not an old account or a blank value.
- Review share counters. Accepted shares should begin increasing. Rejected shares, repeated reconnects or a zero-share interval indicate that the configuration still needs investigation.
- Open the pool dashboard. Sign in to the account or sub-account and look for the worker. Allow a short reporting delay; the exact interval depends on the pool.
- Compare both sides. If the miner says it is connected but the pool dashboard shows no worker, recheck the account, worker spelling, endpoint and port rather than assuming the dashboard is wrong.
Bitmain’s support procedure specifically directs operators to check Miner Status after applying the settings. Its API documentation also describes pool status information, which can help distinguish a configured-but-dead pool from an active one.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting a miner that stays offline
The pool URL is shown, but the status is dead or offline
- Re-copy the hostname and port from the pool’s current official page. A historical endpoint may no longer accept connections.
- Check whether the miner requires a protocol prefix or a particular Stratum variant.
- Confirm that outbound traffic from the miner’s network is allowed on the published port.
- Test another valid endpoint from the same pool if one is documented for your region.
- Inspect the fallback slots. A reachable backup can become active when Pool 1 fails, which may make the result look different from the value you just entered.
The miner connects, but the worker never appears on the dashboard
- Compare every character in the worker/user field with the pool’s required account or sub-account format.
- Check for an omitted worker suffix, an extra space, an incorrect separator or a capitalization error.
- Confirm that you are viewing the same pool account used in the miner.
- Allow for the pool’s reporting delay, then refresh the dashboard.
- If the pool requires a particular password or token, replace a guessed value with the published instruction.
The miner keeps using the old pool
- Check all pool slots and their priority. The old endpoint may still be configured as Pool 1 or a higher-priority fallback.
- Confirm that the save operation completed and that the device rebooted when required.
- Read the configuration back after reboot. On supported Bitmain devices, the documented GET configuration route can show whether the new values were written.
- On older Bitmain firmware, inspect pool settings after changing operating mode because the documented pre-May 20 firmware caveat can reset pool values in some circumstances.
The miner shows accepted shares but the pool rejects many of them
- Verify that the endpoint, protocol and port match the pool’s current instructions.
- Check that the miner’s system time and firmware are functioning normally; an outdated device can behave differently from the pool’s current requirements.
- Confirm that the worker string is valid for the selected account and that you did not paste an administrative credential into the pool-password field.
- Compare the accepted and rejected counters over time rather than judging from a single share.
The web page will not save or the API returns an error
- Confirm that you are signed in with an administrator account and that the device is not in a restricted read-only mode.
- Use the exact field names and data types required by the model. A Bitmain pool object with
url, userandpassis not automatically valid for WhatsMiner or Avalon. - For WhatsMiner automation, make sure the pool parameter is encrypted and Base64-encoded as required; do not send an unencrypted example.
- For Avalon, follow the documented
setpoolsyntax and reboot requirement. - Return to the web interface and verify the result after the device finishes restarting.
Safe operating practices after the change
- Keep a record. Note the miner model, firmware, date, pool endpoint, worker identity and which slot was changed. Do not store passwords in an exposed plain-text document.
- Change management credentials. Replace default administrator credentials and limit management access to trusted devices.
- Do not publish the management port. A miner’s control interface should not be reachable from the public internet.
- Use only valid backups. A backup pool is useful only when its endpoint and credentials are current. Otherwise it can hide a primary-pool configuration mistake.
- Recheck after firmware updates. Firmware changes can rename menus, alter API availability or change restart behavior.
- Watch both dashboards. Miner status can report a connection while the pool account is wrong, and a pool dashboard can lag behind the miner. Use both views.
Key decisions at a glance
| Question | Practical answer |
|---|---|
| Where does the current URL come from? | The selected pool’s official setup instructions, not an old tutorial. |
| What is a worker? | The pool-side name used to identify a miner or group of miners; its format is pool-specific. |
| How many pools can be configured? | Bitmain’s documented example and WhatsMiner’s API reference show up to three pool entries; confirm the limit for your model. |
| Will saving restart the miner? | It depends on the device and route. The cited Antpool Bitmain procedure restarts after Save & Apply; the Avalon A10 manual requires a reboot. |
| How do you know the change succeeded? | The miner status shows the intended active pool and worker, and the pool dashboard reports that worker with shares. |
| Should you copy an endpoint from a historical guide? | No. Treat historical examples as field-format demonstrations and obtain current values from the pool. |
Changing a miner’s destination is straightforward when the model, firmware and pool instructions are matched carefully. Enter the current URL, port, worker and password in the correct configuration route, apply the change, reboot when required, and verify activity on both the miner and the pool account.
