Use Chrome DevTools to capture either the visible viewport or the entire product page, then repeat at the viewport sizes relevant to your audit. Record the URL, capture time, viewport and page state alongside each image. That makes the screenshot easier to interpret without implying it represents every visitor or proves how the page appeared at other times.
Choose the screenshot that answers your audit question
A viewport screenshot records what is currently visible in the browser window. A full-size screenshot includes page content beyond that window. They are different records: use the first to assess an initial screen or visible offer, and the second when the finding concerns the product page as a whole.

Capture a product page in Chrome DevTools
- Open the exact product URL in Chrome. Note the full address, including any relevant query string. Wait for the page content you intend to review to appear.
- Set the page state. If the audit concerns a particular size, color, price, offer, details panel or other interaction, make that state visible before capturing. Record what you selected or opened. This helps distinguish the screenshot from other possible states of the same page.
- Open DevTools. Use Chrome’s DevTools menu or the keyboard shortcut for your operating system. In DevTools, open the command menu and search for a screenshot command. Choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport or Capture a full size screenshot for the full document. Chrome’s documentation describes these options and their behavior at Capture screenshots.
- Save the image with its context. Keep a note containing the exact URL, date and time, viewport dimensions or device preset, and relevant page interactions. The screenshot file alone may not make those conditions clear.
- Preserve the original. If you annotate or redact a copy for a report, label it as edited and keep the unaltered capture. A screenshot records an observed state; it does not by itself establish how the page was presented continuously or to every user.
Capture mobile and responsive layouts
In DevTools, open the Device Toolbar and set the viewport you want to inspect. Capture the page at that size, then repeat for any other sizes in scope. The Device Toolbar resizes the viewport to help test how content reflows; consult Chrome DevTools: Device Mode.

Describe these as viewport or device-emulation captures, not tests on a particular physical phone. A resized browser viewport does not establish how a specific handset, operating system, browser version, network or user account would render the page. For a useful comparison, record the actual viewport dimensions or preset and keep them consistent across pages where possible.
Make captures comparable and useful as audit records
For a set of competing product pages or repeated captures, align the conditions that could change what appears:

- Viewport: use matching dimensions or name the different presets; say whether a mobile view is emulated.
- Page extent: identify viewport-only captures versus full-size captures.
- Page state: note the selected product variant, expanded content, visible consent prompt, or other interaction that affects the image.
- URL and time: keep the exact page address and capture date/time because product information and offers can change.
- Original and edited copies: preserve the unaltered image and identify any marked-up or redacted version.
Separate what the image directly shows from what you infer. For example, a screenshot can document that a particular price or product claim was visible in that capture; it cannot alone verify the underlying claim or establish that all shoppers saw it.

The ASCI Code says that “All descriptions, claims and comparisons, which relate to matters of objectively ascertainable fact, should be capable of substantiation.” It also states that “Advertisements shall neither distort facts nor mislead the consumer by means of implications or omissions.” These provisions support evidence-backed reporting of visible product-page claims. They do not prescribe a screenshot format or, by themselves, decide whether a page complies. Read The ASCI Code, Chapter I: Truthful & honest representation, and assess claims using the evidence relevant to the finding.

Regulatory timing matters. The Department of Consumer Affairs lists the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 and a 2026 amendment on its consumer protection legislation page. A government announcement dated 10 September 2026 says the amendment is to commence on 1 January 2027 and describes changes involving grievance handling, search results and sponsored listings, price reductions, dark patterns, seller disclosures and product information. Before that commencement date, do not describe the announced provisions as already in force. Troubleshooting captures
- The capture command is missing: Open DevTools’ command menu and search for “screenshot.” Chrome menu labels and behavior can change by version; consult the current screenshot documentation.
- The image shows the wrong variant or offer: Set the intended option before capture and note the interaction. Product pages can present different states at the same URL.
- The mobile image does not match a phone: Record it as a DevTools-emulated viewport capture. Do not attribute it to a physical device unless you actually captured it there.
- Two pages are difficult to compare: Check that viewport dimensions, page extent, interaction state and capture times are aligned or explicitly disclosed.
- A screenshot seems to prove more than it shows: Limit the finding to visible, time-specific observations and corroborate objective claims with appropriate evidence. The image alone is not proof of a general or continuous presentation.
