Open the exact webpage, capture the relevant screen or the whole page, then save the image with its source URL and access date. For a clear report, check that the text is readable and add a caption identifying the website and page. Use your teacher’s citation and formatting instructions; there is no single screenshot or citation rule established here for every Indian school.
Choose a screen capture or a full-page capture
A regular screenshot records what is visible on your screen at that moment. It may cut off material farther down the webpage. A full-page capture can include scrolling content, so use it when the report needs to show more than the visible screen. For one relevant detail, a selected-area or window capture is usually easier to read than a long whole-page image.

- Open the exact page you plan to cite and wait until the relevant text, image, or page state is visible.
- Choose a screen, selected-area, window, or full-page capture to suit the evidence you need.
- Review the result for readability and context. Recapture it if a menu, cookie notice, popup, chat widget, or unrelated content obscures the important part.
- Save the image with a descriptive filename, such as
school-site-homepage.png. Keep the original image and source URL available. - Insert the image and add a caption or figure note. Follow your teacher’s instructions if they specify a format.
Capture a website on Windows
Capture the visible screen or a selected area
On Windows 10 or Windows 11, press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open Snipping Tool’s capture overlay. Choose rectangle, window, full screen, or freeform mode, then capture the page. Review the snip in Snipping Tool, edit if needed, and save it to your chosen location. Microsoft documents this workflow in its Snipping Tool screenshot guide.
Capture the entire scrolling page in Edge
In Microsoft Edge, open the webpage and choose Web capture from the Settings and more menu, or press Ctrl + Shift + S. Select Capture full page, review the result, and save it. Edge also offers capture of a specific area. See Microsoft Edge’s Web Capture instructions.

Capture a website on iPhone, Android, or Chromebook
iPhone
On an iPhone without a Home button, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press and release the side button and Home button together. Tap the screenshot preview; when available for webpage content such as a Safari page, choose Full Page to capture beyond the visible screen. Android
Google’s Android help describes holding the Power button and tapping Screenshot; if that option is unavailable, try Power + Volume Down together. Controls vary by device. If neither method works, consult your phone manufacturer’s instructions. See Google’s screenshot guidance.

Chromebook
Press Ctrl + Show windows. With a non-Chrome OS keyboard, press Ctrl + F5. The cited Google help page says the screenshot is saved as a PNG in the Downloads folder: Google’s screenshot guidance.
Label and caption the evidence
A screenshot alone does not tell a reader where or when you viewed the page. Keep the original URL and date accessed with the image, and include useful source details in its caption. For example:

Use the caption format your teacher requests if one is specified. Do not suggest that a website endorses your project just because you have included its page in a report.
Check whether you may reuse the material
A screenshot may reproduce protected content. Giving credit is helpful, but attribution alone does not necessarily grant permission. Check the particular website’s terms and the context in which you plan to use the image.

W3C’s guidance on using WAI material applies to W3C material, not to every website: it says most WAI material requires clear attribution and must not be modified except where stated; its document license describes details required when redistributing complete documents. See W3C WAI’s material-use guidance. W3C separately says that a screenshot of part of its own website may be used without permission if it does not imply sponsorship or endorsement, and that its logo policy must not be circumvented. That statement concerns W3C’s site specifically, not other sites or legal systems: W3C’s intellectual-rights FAQ.

- Important content is missing: the capture may show only the current screen. Use Edge’s Capture full page or, when available, iPhone’s Full Page option for supported webpage content.
- Text is too small in the report: capture a relevant area rather than squeezing a long page into one figure. Check legibility after inserting the image.
- An overlay blocks the page: dismiss it if appropriate, wait for the page to settle, and capture again. Avoid including unrelated menus or popups.
- Android’s shortcut does not work: try the other common method described above, then check the phone manufacturer’s support because controls differ.
- You cannot identify the source later: save the URL and access date alongside the image and add them to its caption.
