Store one webpage URL per Airtable record, let Make watch a view of records ready for capture, send each URL to a screenshot action, then write the result and status back to that same record. The essential design choice is to treat each URL as an independent job: this makes results traceable and failures easier to retry.
Set up Airtable as a screenshot queue
Create one record for each webpage
Add one record per page you want to capture. A practical table can include these fields:

- URL: the target webpage, not an Airtable attachment link.
- Status: for example, Ready, Processing, Complete, or Error.
- Screenshot result: a field suited to the kind of output your chosen provider returns.
- Captured at: optional date/time for the successful capture.
- Error: optional short message or failure detail for retrying.
- Created Time or Last Modified Time: required by Make’s documented Airtable Watch Records trigger.
Create a queue view that includes eligible records, such as those with Status set to Ready, and excludes completed records. This helps prevent a later edit from putting already-processed records back into the capture queue.
Build the Make scenario
1. Watch the Airtable queue view
- In Make, create a scenario and add Airtable’s Watch Records trigger.
- Connect Airtable, then choose the base, table, and queue view.
- Select the available Created Time or Last Modified Time field as the trigger field.
The documented trigger watches newly created or updated records in a view. Its behavior depends on the view and trigger field you configure; keep the queue view limited to records that should be captured. See Make’s Airtable modules documentation.

2. Add a screenshot action
Make’s integration documentation lists these native screenshot options:
- GetScreenshot — Take Screenshot: captures a webpage; its Make app documentation says an active GetScreenshot account and API key are required. It also lists a Take Element Screenshot action that requires a selector. See GetScreenshot in Make Apps Documentation and Make’s GetScreenshot and Airtable integration.
- HTML to Image API — Capture Website Screenshot: listed by Make as an action to capture a website or webpage from a URL. See Make’s HTML to Image and Airtable integration.
Choose based on your target sites, capture controls, output format, limits, and current price. The available documentation does not establish a comparative winner for cost, speed, or reliability, nor a shared output schema for the providers.
3. Map the URL, then map the actual result
- Map the Airtable record’s URL field into the screenshot action’s URL input.
- Run a small sample with a few accessible public webpages.
- Inspect the action’s actual output. Map the returned image, file, or result value to a compatible Airtable field; do not assume every provider returns a permanent image URL or the same kind of file.
- Add an Airtable update action and map the triggering record’s record ID so the scenario updates the source record rather than creating a new one.
- On success, store the result and set Status to Complete. On failure, store an error or short failure status so the record can be investigated and retried.
Before processing a large queue, confirm the screenshot’s dimensions, capture timing, and how the result is stored. This is especially important if a later step needs a durable link or an Airtable attachment.

Choose a screenshot API that fits the workflow
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers; it is a practical alternative when you want one API call per Airtable URL, clean captures, and explicit billing verdicts. Its endpoint accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF. Make’s HTTP Make a request module can call APIs when there is no suitable native integration; follow the selected provider’s current API documentation for authentication and request details. For any provider, compare whether it can reach the target URL, whether it supports viewport or full-page capture, its rendering and wait controls, element selection, output type, authentication options for protected target sites, usage limits, and current pricing. A value returned by a capture module must also be usable by your downstream Airtable field or storage process.
Handle volume, pagination, and Airtable limits
For custom integrations that read Airtable’s Web API directly, Airtable documents pages of up to 100 records, with an offset to retrieve the next page when more records remain. Its API limit documentation states a limit of five requests per second per base and 50 requests per second across personal access token traffic for a user or service account. After a 429 response, Airtable says to wait 30 seconds before subsequent requests succeed. Use backoff and retry handling in custom API code, and avoid treating these Airtable API limits as a guarantee of Make scenario throughput: that also depends on the scenario schedule, modules, and screenshot provider. For a Make-managed workflow, test the volume your chosen modules and plan can handle, keep completed records out of the queue view, and decide how a failed item returns to Ready. Do not assume the API page size or rate limit alone determines how fast the scenario will run.

The URL to capture is normally an ordinary webpage URL stored in a text or URL field. Airtable attachment download URLs are different: Airtable says API-generated attachment links remain active for a short period, approximately two hours, and the exact window can change. That behavior applies to Airtable-hosted attachments; it does not apply to URLs stored in ordinary URL or text fields. If the screenshot is stored as an Airtable attachment, do not treat its temporary download URL as permanent public storage. See Airtable attachment URL behavior.
Troubleshoot common failures
No Airtable records reach the scenario
- Check that records meet the queue view’s filters and that the scenario is watching the intended base, table, and view.
- Confirm the trigger uses a Created Time or Last Modified Time field, as required by Make’s Watch Records documentation.
- Check whether the scenario is enabled and whether the selected trigger field changes in the way your workflow expects.
The screenshot action rejects a URL or returns an error
- Verify that the mapped value is a complete target webpage URL, not blank text or an Airtable attachment URL that has expired.
- Check the provider connection and any required account or API key. For GetScreenshot, Make’s app documentation says an active account and API key are required.
- Test a publicly accessible page to separate URL/access problems from scenario mapping problems. Protected target sites may require authentication options supported by the chosen provider.
The screenshot result does not appear correctly in Airtable
- Inspect the actual output bundle from the capture action and confirm the Airtable field accepts that kind of value.
- Map the existing Airtable record ID into the update action; otherwise, the scenario may not update the row you expect.
- If storing an attachment or link, confirm whether it is durable enough for the next step. Airtable attachment download links are temporary.
Records are captured more than once
- Exclude Complete records from the queue view and update Status as part of the same successful workflow.
- Check whether the trigger uses a Last Modified Time field that your own update step changes; if so, ensure the queue filters still exclude the completed record.
- Use status transitions deliberately, especially when enabling retries, so an error does not silently re-enter the queue forever.
Airtable returns a 429 response in a custom API workflow
Reduce request bursts and retry after Airtable’s documented 30-second wait following a 429. Apply backoff for subsequent requests. This limit concerns Airtable API traffic; the screenshot provider may impose separate limits.

If you are using a custom Make HTTP module or a separate script rather than the cURL example, these runnable requests use the same endpoint. Replace the sample URL with the URL from the current Airtable record. For Make, use the equivalent HTTP request configuration and map the Airtable URL dynamically; check the provider documentation for how your HTTP module handles binary response data before trying to store the image.

Can Airtable call the screenshot API by itself?
Airtable’s documented automation actions do not include a generic action for sending HTTP requests to any URL. If you need an outbound call from an Airtable automation rather than a Make scenario, Airtable documents using its Run a script action with fetch() to call an external endpoint. Yes, if the screenshot action supports element capture. Make lists a GetScreenshot Take Element Screenshot action that requires a selector.
