What locale controls—and what it does not
In Playwright, set locale on a browser context before navigating to the product page. The setting affects browser language information such as navigator.language and the Accept-Language request header, as well as number and date formatting. It does not guarantee that a retailer will show a particular currency. A store may use its own region or currency selector or preserve a prior choice in site state. Choose the currency through the retailer’s supported interface, then confirm what the page actually displays.

Playwright’s documentation describes locale and timezone emulation as browser settings; timezone is separate from the test runner’s timezone. Set a browser timezone only if the page contains time-sensitive or timezone-dependent content. Playwright: Emulation—Locale & Timezone and Browser context locale option.
Capture a product page in Playwright
- Choose a locale. Use a language-region tag such as
en-GBorde-DEthat matches the presentation you need. - Set up a fresh context before navigation. Configure locale and, when consistent layout matters, an explicit viewport. This ensures the initial page request uses the intended locale settings.
- Open the product page and select currency on the site. If the retailer offers a region or currency chooser, use that UI. Do not infer the currency from the locale alone.
- Wait for the real product details. Wait for the product name and price, and for the selected currency indicator if it is separate. Prefer locators tied to the actual page content over an arbitrary delay; product data may load or hydrate after the initial document.
- Capture and inspect the result. Use a viewport screenshot for the visible purchase information or a full-page capture for the whole scrollable page. Confirm product identity, price, currency, formatting and image completeness. Check that a consent dialog or other overlay does not obscure key information.

Install Playwright with npm install playwright and ensure its Chromium browser is installed (for example, with npx playwright install chromium). Replace the example URL and product-name pattern with the target store’s real product page and heading. The currency selector and price assertion are deliberately site-specific: identify the retailer’s actual control and price element rather than assuming a universal selector.

Replace them with working selectors for the target page, and confirm that the logged price text includes the requested currency before treating the screenshot as correct.
Viewport or full page
Playwright captures the visible viewport by default. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable page. Keep the viewport fixed when comparing captures because responsive layouts can change with viewport dimensions. Screenshot options also include output path, image type, scale and masking. Currency selection and state are retailer-specific
A locale is a browser preference, not a command to a merchant to convert its catalog. If the page shows the wrong currency, inspect the retailer’s visible region or currency setting and choose the intended option there. Then wait for the product price to update and verify the currency indicator alongside it.

Common problems and fixes
- The language changed but the currency did not: locale affects browser language and formatting, not a guaranteed merchant currency. Select currency or region using the retailer’s UI, then inspect the updated price.
- The first screenshot has the old price or no price: product content may load asynchronously. Wait for the actual product and price elements to be visible, and capture after the currency change has taken effect.
- The screenshot layout differs between runs: specify a consistent viewport before navigation. Responsive page layout can vary with viewport size.
- The screenshot omits lower-page content: the default capture is the viewport. Set
fullPage: truewhen you need the scrollable page. - A banner or overlay hides product details: inspect the final image and handle the site’s consent or overlay UI appropriately before capturing. Do not publish a screenshot that conceals the information it is meant to show.
- The price or account details are sensitive: use a non-sensitive product URL or permitted test environment, and mask personal or account-specific data before sharing.

Verify before using the screenshot
Check the image itself rather than treating a successful browser request as proof of localization: confirm the correct product, requested currency and price, locale-sensitive formatting, complete product imagery and unobstructed content. This final check matters because locale configuration and the retailer’s currency choice are separate.
