To capture a mobile-layout screenshot with Browserless, send a URL to its REST Screenshot API for a straightforward image capture, or connect to a supported BrowserQL (BQL) or stealth endpoint with emulationOs=android and optionally an Android emulatedDevice profile. Use the profile on the connection URL, then navigate and capture the page in the session. Browserless documents Android emulation—not iPhone, iOS, or Safari emulation.
Choose the Browserless capture workflow
Browserless documents two useful paths, but they do not expose identical mobile setup. The REST Screenshot API is designed for a direct URL-to-image request. Android device-profile emulation is documented for supported stealth or BQL connections; a BQL session also lets you navigate and adjust viewport and screenshot settings explicitly.

| Workflow | Use it when | Mobile setup and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| REST Screenshot API | You want to submit a URL and receive image bytes in one request. | The endpoint documents capture options such as format, full page, viewport, scale factor, clipping and selector capture. The Android profile is documented for supported stealth or BQL connections, so do not assume the profile parameter works on the REST screenshot endpoint. |
| BQL or supported stealth session | You need an explicit browser session, navigation, viewport mutations or an Android device profile. | Pass emulationOs=android on the eligible connection URL. BQL then exposes viewport and screenshot mutations. |

Make a direct screenshot request with the REST API
Get an API token from your Browserless account dashboard, then send a POST request to /screenshot. The request includes the target url, optional screenshot options, and the token in the endpoint query string. The response is binary image data; its content type follows the requested format. Browserless’s example saves a PNG.

Use the REST API when its documented capture options are sufficient. The endpoint supports PNG, JPEG and WebP output, full-page capture, viewport and device scale factor options, clipping, and capturing a selected element. Its screenshot options do not make this endpoint equivalent to connecting with the documented Android profile.
For full-page captures with lazy-loaded content, Browserless documents scrollPage: true to bring page content into view before capture. Otherwise, elements that load only when scrolled into view may not appear in the image.
See the endpoint’s current request shape and option names in the Browserless Screenshot API documentation. Keep the token out of source code and public examples; using an environment variable or secret store is standard credential-handling advice, not a Browserless-specific API requirement.

Use an Android device profile in a BQL session
For the documented mobile device profile, connect to a supported stealth or BQL endpoint with emulationOs=android as a connection query parameter. To request a particular supported Android model, add emulatedDevice=<slug>. These are connection settings—not BQL mutations. After connecting, navigate to the target page, wait for the relevant content, and invoke the screenshot mutation.
What the profile changes
Browserless describes the Android profile as more than a viewport size. It supplies a mobile Chrome identity, model information through User-Agent Client Hints, phone screen dimensions and pixel ratio, touch behavior, portrait orientation and other Android signals. This is software emulation in a cloud browser, not a capture from a physical phone.
Choose between a profile and a manual viewport
A BQL viewport mutation lets you set width, height, device scale factor, mobile mode, touch support and landscape settings. The documentation’s 375-by-667-pixel mobile viewport is an example, not a universal device recommendation. A manual viewport controls dimensions and related viewport behavior; it does not supply the broader identity and signals of the Android profile.

When a device profile is active, its screen shape determines orientation. The viewport mutation’s landscape setting takes effect only when no device-emulation profile is active. Do not expect a manual viewport or user-agent string alone to reproduce the full profile.
Capture the page or a specific element
The BQL screenshot mutation supports fullPage, clip, selector, type, quality, timeout and waitForImages. Use a selector when you only need a particular component; use a full-page capture for the document beyond the initial viewport. Set the image type and quality to suit the downstream use, and allow enough time for the target content and images to load.
For exact mutation syntax and accepted values, use Browserless’s viewport mutation and screenshot mutation references. The connection URL and the BQL schema are both part of the workflow: profile selection happens at connection time, while viewport and screenshot behavior are controlled in the session.

Know the device-profile limits
- Android only: Browserless explicitly documents Android device emulation and says iPhone, iOS and Safari are unsupported. These captures cannot establish how a site renders in iOS Safari.
- Device parameter dependency:
emulatedDevicerequiresemulationOs=android. Browserless says using the device parameter without Android emulation returns HTTP 400 on a stealth request. - Slug handling: Device slugs are case-sensitive. An unrecognized slug falls back to an automatically selected device rather than necessarily returning an error, so check the resulting capture when model selection matters.
- Orientation and range: The documented Android profiles are modern flagship phones in portrait orientation. They are not a promise of arbitrary legacy-device coverage or profile-based landscape rotation.
- Lazy loading: Full-page height alone may not trigger content that loads only when scrolled into view. For the REST API, Browserless recommends
scrollPage: truebefore the full-page capture.
Browserless’s OpenAPI Reference Overview displayed version 2.56.7 when consulted and describes the reference as covering Enterprise and Cloud deployments. That is a version observed in the documentation, not a guarantee of the version currently deployed; see the OpenAPI Reference Overview for current reference context.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| HTTP 400 when choosing a device | emulatedDevice was supplied without emulationOs=android on a stealth request. |
Add the Android emulation connection parameter and verify that both settings are on the connection URL. |
| The capture uses a different model than requested | The device slug may be misspelled or have the wrong capitalization; an unrecognized slug can fall back to an automatically selected device. | Check the supported slug and its exact case in the OS emulation documentation, then inspect the resulting image. |
| The image looks mobile-sized but not like the selected phone | A manual viewport sets dimensions without the full Android profile, or the profile was attached to an endpoint that does not document it. | Use a supported BQL or stealth connection for the Android profile; use viewport settings for dimension-only control. |
| Landscape setting has no effect | An active device profile determines orientation from its screen shape. | Remove the device profile if using the viewport mutation’s landscape option, or capture in the profile’s documented portrait orientation. |
| Content is absent from a full-page image | Lazy-loaded elements may not have been brought into view before the capture. | For the REST endpoint, enable scrollPage: true; for a session, make sure the page has loaded the relevant content before invoking the screenshot mutation. |
| A screenshot does not match iPhone or Safari | The documented device emulation is Android-only. | Do not treat the result as an iOS Safari compatibility test; Browserless’s documented profile does not cover iPhone, iOS or Safari. |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It accepts one GET request with a URL and returns an image or PDF. Its clean-shot steps accept consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
For example, this cURL request captures a WebP image of Stripe. Get an API key and see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options such as device presets and full-page capture.
