For a straightforward record, open the exact Indian Railways page in Chrome on a computer, choose File > Print (or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac), select Save as PDF, inspect the preview, and save. Keep the page’s full URL and the capture date, time, and time zone in a note with the file. A PDF or screenshot records a view; by itself, it does not establish that the page was authentic, unchanged, or legally admissible.
Before you save: check which Indian Railways page you are using
“Indian Railways website” can refer to different portals and services. Check the exact domain, page title, and displayed department or publisher before capturing. The central Indian Railways portal describes its content as a collaborative effort of railway entities and says it is maintained by CRIS for the Ministry of Railways, so the portal operator and the department responsible for a particular page may not be the same. A gov.in or nic.in address is a government-website authenticity indicator under the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW); it is a useful cue, not proof that a particular page is current or that its contents have not changed. Record the full URL rather than relying on a label or filename.
Save the page as a PDF in Chrome
- Open the exact page. Confirm the page title and full address in the address bar. Note the railway entity or department shown as the page owner, if available.
- Record the capture time. Write down the date and time, including the time zone. If the page has a publication, issue, or review date, record that separately; it is not the time you captured it.
- Open Print. In Chrome on a computer, choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac. See Google Chrome Help.
- Choose the PDF destination. In the print window, select Save as PDF. Review the available print settings and the preview before saving.
- Inspect the saved file. Open the PDF and check that the relevant title, text, tables, and pages appear complete. GIGW says government pages should print correctly on A4 paper, but that is a design guideline, not a guarantee that every live page will render perfectly.
- Keep the record together. Save a note containing the full URL and capture time alongside the PDF. A descriptive name such as
Railway-Board_notice_2026-10-04_capture.pdfcan help identify the file; a filename or local timestamp is not independent authentication.
When to add a screenshot
Add a screenshot if the visible state matters—for example, the appearance of an interactive element or what was on screen at the time. A screenshot may omit content outside the visible frame and may not include the full URL or capture time. Keep those details in a separate note, and leave the address bar visible where practical. For documentation, a checked PDF plus a URL-and-time note is a useful default; supplement it with a screenshot when the visual state is relevant.

Check the portal’s terms before copying or sharing
The Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) portal terms state: “Print any or all the pages of this portal for your own personal reference.” The same English-language terms restrict other copying—including storing on disk or downloading—distribution, alteration, and other uses beyond the stated permission, and ask users to preserve copyright and intellectual-property notices. The terms say they may change; the page identifies its last review as 28 March 2023. Check the current terms on the exact portal before storing, sharing, publishing, or otherwise reusing its material: Railway Board portal terms.
Do not assume those terms apply identically to every railway-related site or subdomain. For example, IRCTC’s privacy policy describes visit information recorded by the IRCTC site; that statement should not be generalized to every Indian Railways page.

What a saved PDF or screenshot does—and does not—show
- It preserves a view of the page as captured, which can help a future reader locate and contextualize the material when paired with the URL and capture time.
- It does not, by itself, prove who published the page, that the page was unchanged, or that the file is legally admissible. The cited portal guidance does not set out a forensic capture standard.
- A printed PDF is paginated and can be checked for missing text or pages; a screenshot can better show a particular visible state but may not cover the whole page.
