Use Selenium WebDriver to open the product page in Chrome, wait for the specific product detail you need, then save both the current page source and a viewport screenshot. The source helps you inspect the DOM exposed to WebDriver; the screenshot records what was visible at a particular viewport and moment. They are complementary records, not interchangeable archives.
What this workflow captures—and what it does not
A page source file and a screenshot answer different questions. Selenium’s driver.page_source gives the current page source exposed to WebDriver, while its screenshot methods save a PNG or return PNG bytes. The page source is not a complete archive of original network responses or hidden application state. A regular WebDriver screenshot is a viewport capture; it is not a full-page screenshot unless you explicitly implement full-document capture. Selenium’s Python WebDriver API documents these interfaces.

This is a general workflow, not a retailer-specific permission or selector guide. Indian commerce sites can differ in markup, locale behavior, and access rules. Check the intended retailer’s current terms, robots.txt, and documented API or data-access route before collecting pages; Selenium documentation does not establish that a particular retailer permits scraping.
Set up Selenium and Chrome
Install Selenium for Python, then create a Chrome WebDriver session. Current Selenium documentation says Selenium Manager generally handles driver installation for supported platforms and browsers. Record the Selenium package, Chrome, and ChromeDriver versions with each capture. Chrome and ChromeDriver major versions must match. See the Selenium Chrome documentation and Python API reference.

- Keep the requested URL and final URL after navigation; redirects, locale selection, or product variants can change the page actually captured.
- Record capture time, page title, the readiness selector or condition, and the viewport dimensions. Responsive layouts can change substantially with viewport size.
- Record Selenium, Chrome, and ChromeDriver versions. This helps distinguish site changes from browser or driver changes.
- Use a selector tied to the information needed. A title being visible does not prove a price, stock indicator, or variant selection has finished rendering.
- Preserve source and screenshot together. The former is useful for DOM inspection; the latter is evidence of the visible layout at capture time.
Diagnose delayed or missing content with performance logs
If the field never appears, ChromeDriver performance logging can collect browser Timeline, Network, and Page events. Configure the logging preferences and capabilities before creating the WebDriver session; consult ChromeDriver capabilities and the performance logging guide for the current configuration and event details.

Enable only the event categories needed, retain timestamps, and treat logs as sensitive: request metadata may expose URLs or account-related information. Performance logs help diagnose browser activity, but do not guarantee that every response body is retained or that collecting the data is permitted.
Common failures and fixes
- ChromeDriver cannot start or reports a version issue: check the installed Chrome and ChromeDriver major versions and align them. Selenium Manager can resolve driver installation for supported platforms, but version details should still be recorded.
- The wait times out: confirm the selector matches the current page and identifies an element that becomes visible. The requested URL may have redirected, loaded a different locale or variant, or encountered a site-side interstitial. Check
driver.current_urland the page title before treating the capture as a valid product page. - The screenshot is blank or incomplete: verify the browser reached the expected page and that the chosen readiness condition reflects the needed content. A successful document navigation alone does not prove client-rendered data or lazy content is ready.
- The screenshot layout differs across runs: set and record a consistent viewport, and retain browser and driver versions. A viewport screenshot reflects responsive layout at that particular size.
- The output file is missing after an error: inspect the Python exception and confirm the output directory is writable. The
finallyblock closes the browser even when navigation or file writing fails; fix the underlying error and rerun.
