Then inspect the image for missing glyphs, broken shaping, or clipped text. There is no single Chrome flag that guarantees correct Hindi rendering on every site.
Choose a capture method
Use Chrome’s command line for a one-off screenshot or a simple repeatable capture. Use Puppeteer when you need code to control navigation, wait for page-specific readiness, or capture a particular element.

Check your Chrome version and Headless mode
Chrome’s current Headless mode uses the regular Chrome implementation. Since Chrome 132.0.6793.0, the old Headless mode is available only as the standalone chrome-headless-shell binary. Older instructions using --headless=old may not apply to a current Chrome installation. See Chrome’s Headless documentation.
For reproducible captures, record the browser version and whether you used Chrome or the standalone shell. Browser generation, operating system, installed fonts, and page CSS can affect rendering.

Take a one-off screenshot from the command line
Chrome’s documented --screenshot flag saves the target page as screenshot.png in the current working directory. Set --window-size to the viewport you want rather than relying on an implicit size.
chrome --headless --window-size=412,892 --screenshot https://example.comReplace chrome with the path or command for your Chrome binary if it is not on your system path, and replace the example URL with the page to capture. The dimensions above are an example viewport, not a required size. The command-line reference documents --timeout as a maximum wait before capture, even if loading is unfinished; waiting a fixed duration cannot guarantee that a specific font or dynamic page element is ready. Automate captures with Puppeteer
Puppeteer provides page screenshots and element screenshots. Its screenshot guide demonstrates navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2'; for Hindi pages, combine navigation with checks for the content and fonts your page actually needs.

})();Install Puppeteer in your project with npm install puppeteer. Replace the URL and, where possible, change body to a selector for the actual Hindi content or another page-specific readiness marker. If the page keeps network connections open or renders after network activity settles, use a meaningful selector or app-specific ready condition rather than relying on networkidle2 alone. For one element, pass its element handle to screenshot() instead of calling page.screenshot(). See Puppeteer’s screenshot guide.

Make sure a Devanagari font is available
Hindi uses the Devanagari script. A font stack should put a Devanagari-capable font near the beginning, followed by a general-script font for punctuation and digits and then a generic fallback. Noto’s web guidance recommends Noto Sans Devanagari for Hindi sans-serif text, with the corresponding Noto Sans family for other characters. See Google Fonts’ web font guidance.

Browser defaults vary by operating system and can change across versions. Chromium describes platform-sensitive Devanagari mappings, including Noto Sans Devanagari on Linux and Nirmala UI on Windows; do not treat those defaults as a universal guarantee. Wait for fonts and content, not just a timer
Chrome can display blank space where web-font text should appear until the requested font has loaded. A screenshot taken too early can therefore omit text or capture a fallback rendering. Google Fonts explains this font-loading behavior in its technical considerations.
- Wait for navigation to reach an appropriate state, but remember that network idle is not equivalent to application readiness.
- Wait for a known content selector or application-specific signal when the page renders Hindi text dynamically.
- In Puppeteer, use
document.fonts.readyto wait for the document’s fonts to finish loading. - Use a delay only as an additional measure where appropriate, not as proof that a particular font or page element has loaded.
Inspect the captured image
Check the output itself rather than assuming a successful screenshot command means Hindi rendered correctly. Look for complete letters and conjuncts, correctly placed matras, missing-glyph boxes, unexpected fallback fonts, and text cut off by the viewport or page layout. These checks are practical safeguards, not a guarantee that every website will shape text identically across environments.

Troubleshoot missing or incorrect Hindi text
