Capture a full page with Chrome DevTools
- Open the page you want to document, then open Chrome DevTools.
- Open Device Mode if it is not already active.
- Open the Device Mode More options menu and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome documents this as capturing page content beyond the viewport. Exact menu labels may vary by Chrome version, so check the menu in the version you are using.
- Open the saved image and check that it includes the intended content and page state before inserting it into the guide.

Capture a full page with Firefox DevTools
- Open DevTools Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Select the screenshot icon. Firefox says the image is saved in the browser’s Downloads directory.
- Review the file to confirm the desired page content and state are visible.
To capture just one element, right-click its node in the Inspector’s HTML pane and select Screenshot Node. Firefox also documents the Web Console command screenshot <filename.png> --fullpage for a full-page capture.

Check the capture before using it in documentation
- Confirm the image extends beyond the initial viewport and contains the relevant page sections.
- Check that the content is in the state your instructions intend to show, especially where the page has dynamic content.
- If reproducibility matters, record the browser and relevant viewport or page-state settings as a team convention. The cited documentation does not prescribe a universal standard for these records.
- Keep the original capture available if you annotate or edit the image, so the unmodified capture can be distinguished from an illustration.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
The screenshot shows only the visible screen
The capture may have used a viewport-only option. In Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot; in Firefox, enable and use Take a screenshot of the entire page; in Playwright, pass fullPage: true.
The screenshot is missing content or shows an unexpected page state
A full-page setting defines the capture area; it does not prove that every part of the page has loaded or settled into the desired state. Inspect the image, and adjust your local workflow to ensure the page is in the intended state before capture. The cited sources do not establish one wait condition that works for every site.
