Use Opera’s built-in Snapshot tool for a quick capture. On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+5; on macOS, press Command+Shift+2. Choose Capture full page when that option is available, then save the raw image before adding annotations. If your build offers only a viewport capture, use Save page as PDF for a top-to-bottom record and add separate viewport images for visual details.
For repeatable test runs, inspect and stabilize the page first, record the browser and viewport conditions, and use Opera’s command-line browser with --full-page. The workflow below covers manual captures, PDF fallback, automation, Opera GX, extension limits, evidence handling, troubleshooting, and an API alternative.

Choose the right Opera capture before you start
“Full page” and “visible page” produce different evidence. A visible-page capture is the current viewport only. A full-page capture stitches or renders the complete scrollable document into one long image. A PDF is a paginated document that represents the page from top to bottom, but its page breaks and text flow differ from a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image.

|---|---|---|---|
| Capture visible page | Image of the current viewport | Fast manual snapshot; depends on the current window state | Good for a single defect or UI state; not a complete scrolling record |
| Capture full page | One long image of the scrollable page, when exposed by the current Opera build | Manual and condition-sensitive | Useful for visual regression and documentation; retain the untouched file |
| Save page as PDF | Top-to-bottom paginated document | Manual, with page-layout variables | Portable for reports and review; page breaks can change the visual presentation |
| Opera browser CLI | Full-page PNG, JPEG, or WebP from a script | High repeatability across runs when inputs are fixed | Best for build artifacts and automated issue evidence |
Opera describes Snapshot as a built-in feature for capturing any part of a web page in its Help documentation. The product page confirms that Snapshot is free, requires no extension, can copy an image to the clipboard, and can capture full web pages or save them as PDF at opera.com/features/snapshot.

Manual full-page capture with Snapshot
1. Load and settle the page
- Open the target URL in Opera.
- Wait for asynchronous content, images, web fonts, and client-side components to finish loading. Scroll through the page once if you need to trigger content that loads on scroll.
- Set the viewport size and zoom that you want documented. A responsive defect can disappear when the viewport changes, so do not resize the window after you begin recording the test conditions.
2. Open Snapshot
Use Ctrl+Shift+5 on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+2 on macOS. You can also click the camera-shaped Snapshot icon on the Opera toolbar.
3. Select the page scope
Choose Capture full page for a scrolling document when that label appears. Choose Capture visible page when only the current viewport is relevant—for example, when documenting a modal, a navigation state, or a single breakpoint. Opera’s FAQ uses those labels alongside Save page as PDF; see Opera’s FAQ if the wording in your build differs.
4. Adjust and capture
If Snapshot displays a selection frame, adjust its edges before pressing Capture. A full-page capture should include content below the fold; check the resulting image for missing sections, clipped fixed elements, or unloaded media before you close the editor.

Snapshot can copy the image and can save a PNG after editing. Save an untouched copy first. Use a second file for arrows, highlights, blur, text, pencil marks, emojis, or the selfie-camera overlay. Keeping the raw and annotated files separate lets another tester verify that an annotation did not obscure the original pixels.
Prepare an Opera page for testing evidence
Inspect the DOM, styles, and network activity
Before capturing a defect, open Developer Tools to confirm what the browser actually rendered. On Windows and Linux, use O Menu > Developer > Developer Tools. On macOS, enable the menu with View > Show Developer Menu, then choose Developer > Developer Tools. Opera explains the menu paths and the debugging capabilities in its Advanced help.

- Use the Elements panel to verify that the defective component exists in the DOM and to inspect computed styles.
- Use the Console to identify JavaScript errors that could explain an incomplete render.
- Use the Network panel to check failed requests, redirects, and resources that are still pending.
- Check responsive behavior at the exact viewport used by the test case rather than relying on a maximized desktop window.
Record the conditions that affect the pixels
Include the Opera version, operating system, viewport width and height, zoom level, URL, color-scheme setting if relevant, and capture mode in the test record. These fields are practical documentation conventions rather than a mandatory Opera template. They make a later reproduction possible when a page changes or a browser update alters layout.
Stabilize dynamic content
Dismiss or document cookie prompts, wait for skeleton screens to disappear, and note whether the test uses a logged-in account, a feature flag, or test data. If the defect depends on a particular scroll position, record that position and capture a separate viewport image in addition to the long page.
Annotate without weakening traceability
Snapshot includes zoom, arrow, blur, highlight, pencil, selfie camera, emoji, and text tools. Use them after the raw file is safely stored. Blur personal data in the copy intended for a ticket, but keep the access-controlled original when your policy permits it. Do not overwrite the source file with an annotated version.
A useful naming convention is project-page-date-viewport-mode.png, for example checkout-3ds-2026-10-15-1440x900-full-page.png. Put the exact URL and test-case identifier in the issue rather than relying on the filename alone. If the capture is regenerated, retain the previous artifact so reviewers can see whether a change came from the product or from the capture conditions.
When PDF is the better full-page fallback
Some Opera builds expose only viewport capture in Snapshot. In that case, choose Save page as PDF to obtain a complete top-to-bottom artifact, then capture the key viewport separately. PDF is often easier to circulate in a report and preserves selectable text, but it is not a pixel-for-pixel substitute for a long image: pagination, margins, and print styles can alter the appearance.

- Save the PDF with the same URL, viewport, and date metadata used for the test record.
- Capture individual viewport images for any defect whose position, spacing, or overlay must be judged against the browser window.
Do not describe a PDF as a full-page PNG in a test result. State the artifact type explicitly so reviewers know whether they are looking at screen pixels or a paginated print representation.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Automate Opera captures with opera-browser-cli
Opera Software’s official opera-browser-cli repository documents a screenshot command and a --full-page flag for the entire scrollable page. It supports png, jpeg, and webp output formats. A representative command is:
opera-browser-cli screenshot evidence.png --full-page --format png
Run the command in the environment where the CLI and its browser dependencies are installed. Confirm the installed version’s help output before putting flags into CI because command-line options can change:
opera-browser-cli screenshot --help
Make automated runs comparable
- Pin the browser or container image used by the test job where your release process allows it.
- Use the same viewport and emulation settings for every build under comparison.
- Keep URL, user-agent, color scheme, network conditions, and test data constant when those inputs affect rendering.
- Wait for the application’s own readiness condition before invoking the screenshot command.
- Write the browser version, CLI version, commit or build identifier, and output format beside each artifact.
The repository documents viewport and emulation flags, but identical rendering is not guaranteed for every page under every emulation setting. Treat a changed environment as a changed test input, not automatically as a product regression.
Choose an output format
- PNG: a lossless choice for text, borders, and pixel-level comparisons.
- JPEG: smaller files when photographic content dominates and minor compression is acceptable.
- WebP: a compact modern image format when the receiving system supports it.
The CLI command produces an image artifact. If your report requires a paginated document, generate a PDF through Opera’s browser workflow separately and label it as such.

Opera GX uses the same Snapshot workflow
Opera GX documents the same Ctrl+Shift+5 shortcut on Windows and Command+Shift+2 on Mac, plus the toolbar Snapshot icon. Its documented flow is to choose the visible-page or whole-page capture, add doodles or text, and save or share the result. The official instructions are at Opera GX Snapshot. Record that the capture came from Opera GX rather than standard Opera because browser edition is part of the rendering environment.
Extension fallback: use it only after checking governance
Opera’s Add-ons catalog lists Page Screenshot, an extension that enables a full-page screenshot from a chosen website. The listing establishes that capability, but it does not establish compatibility with your Opera version, maintenance quality, permissions, or suitability for regulated evidence.
- Review requested permissions before installation.
- Test on a non-sensitive page first.
- Check whether the extension captures lazy content, sticky elements, and authenticated pages correctly.
- Record the extension name and version in the evidence metadata.
- Do not install an extension in a restricted test environment without approval.
Opera’s 2016 article on full-page screenshots discusses zooming to fit and using operating-system commands, web tools, or extensions. It is historical context; the current Snapshot and CLI documentation should control a present-day workflow. The article is available at Opera News.
Comparison: which capture route fits your evidence?
| Option | Artifact | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. ScreenshotNeo | PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from an API request | Automated and service-based captures; clean shots, only clean shots billed, and the lowest paid plan | Requires an API key and an external request |
| Opera Snapshot | Visible or full-page image, plus PDF export | One-off exploratory testing and annotated documentation | Full-page labeling can vary by Opera build |
| Opera PDF export | Paginated PDF | Complete reports and easy review | Print pagination is not identical to viewport pixels |
| opera-browser-cli | Full-page PNG, JPEG, or WebP | Repeatable scripted captures in CI | CLI flags and rendering depend on the installed environment |
| Page Screenshot extension | Full-page image, according to the catalog listing | Fallback when built-in capture is unavailable | Compatibility, maintenance, permissions, and regulated-evidence suitability are not established by the listing |
Common failures and fixes
The keyboard shortcut does nothing
Click the Opera window so it has focus, then retry the shortcut for your operating system. If it still fails, use the toolbar camera icon. Check the operating-system shortcut, since Windows/Linux and macOS use different combinations.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Only the viewport option appears
Your current Opera build may not expose Capture full page in Snapshot. Use Save page as PDF for the complete document and add viewport images for visual details. For repeatable image output, move the job to opera-browser-cli with --full-page.
Best Value
The capture is missing images or text
Return to the page, wait for asynchronous requests and fonts, and inspect the Network panel for failures. Scroll through long pages to trigger scroll-based loading before opening Snapshot. If the page is authenticated, confirm that the session is still valid.
The defect disappears in the screenshot
Record the viewport and zoom before capturing, and avoid resizing the window between reproduction and capture. Take a viewport image while the defect is visible, then create the full-page or PDF artifact as a separate file. A long image can make a small overlay hard to see.
The PDF layout differs from the browser
That is expected when print styles, margins, or page breaks apply. Use PDF for document completeness and use a viewport image for pixel-level browser evidence. State the artifact type in the issue.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe CLI command is not recognized
Verify that the executable is installed and on the job’s PATH. Run opera-browser-cli --help to confirm the command syntax, then check the repository documentation for the version you installed.
Automation produces different pixels on different runners
Compare browser and CLI versions, operating systems, viewport, emulation, user-agent, color scheme, network conditions, fonts, and test data. Fix those inputs before treating the image difference as a product change.
An extension is blocked by policy
Do not bypass the policy. Use built-in Snapshot, PDF export, or the CLI in an approved environment. If an extension is permitted, document its version and permissions in the test record.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
