Use Playwright’s fullPage: true option to save the entire scrollable page, not just the visible viewport. First reproduce the error in the environment where it occurs, wait until the relevant UI is visible, then capture it and attach the route, reproduction steps, environment, and any available logs to the report.
Capture the full page with Playwright
In a Playwright test, navigate to the route that shows the error and call page.screenshot() with fullPage: true:

});Replace the example URL with the route that reproduces the issue. The artifact path is also illustrative; choose a location your project or CI system preserves. The screenshot API can return a buffer instead of writing a file if your workflow needs to upload or process the image. Choose the right Next.js error state
Development runtime overlay
When an uncaught runtime error occurs during next dev, Next.js documents a development error overlay. It is not shown in production. Capture the environment in which the bug actually occurs and label it in the report: an overlay in development and a fallback page in production are different states, not interchangeable screenshots. The development-overlay behavior is described in the Next.js error-handling documentation; check documentation for the version installed in your project if the behavior matters to a version-specific report.

App Router fallback UI
For an uncaught exception during rendering, an App Router error boundary can show fallback UI. A route segment can define an error.js file for that fallback; if no nearer boundary handles an error, it bubbles to a parent boundary. Error boundaries do not catch errors in event handlers, which need explicit handling. Therefore, first establish whether the symptom is a rendering failure or an event-handler failure: the latter may not produce the boundary screen you expect. Make the screenshot useful in a bug report
- Reproduce the issue and wait until the relevant overlay or fallback UI is visible.
- Capture the entire scrollable page with
fullPage: true, or capture the relevant element when the rest of the page would add no useful context. - Open the saved image and confirm that the error text is legible and the surrounding context is present.
- Submit the route or URL, concise reproduction steps, whether the capture came from development or production, and the exact visible error text.
- Provide relevant browser-console or server-log details separately when available; a screenshot records pixels, not the runtime stack or request history.
- Inspect the full image for credentials, tokens, personal data, or internal information, and redact sensitive content before sharing.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The image shows only the viewport: Confirm the screenshot call uses
fullPage: trueand that the image being opened is the newly saved artifact. - The screenshot misses the error: Reproduce the issue first and wait until the overlay or fallback has appeared before calling the screenshot API. If the error is in a component, consider a locator screenshot.
- You expected an error boundary for a click failure: Next.js documents that error boundaries do not catch event-handler errors. Handle that error explicitly and capture the visible result of that handling.
- Development and production screenshots differ: Record which environment produced the image. The development runtime overlay is not shown in production; production may display the app’s fallback UI instead.
- The screenshot alone does not explain the failure: Add the reproduction steps and route, then attach available console or server-log details separately.
- The image contains sensitive details: Review the full-page image and redact secrets or personal information before sending it to others.
