These browser tools are the quickest route because they do not require a separate screenshot service or extension. If you need control over timing, image scale or a single page element, Firefox Developer Tools adds those options. What a full-page screenshot captures
A regular screenshot records only the part of a page currently visible in the browser window. A full-page screenshot extends beyond that viewport to include content further down the page, producing one tall image. It is useful for archiving an article, sharing a complete page for review, or documenting a page state that is difficult to explain with a short screen grab.
The result is an image of what the browser rendered, not a working copy of the site. Text in the image is not automatically selectable, and links, menus and buttons in it cannot be clicked. If you need searchable text, functional links or a reflowable document, save or print the page in a suitable format instead.
Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage you want to save and wait for its main content to appear.
- Open Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu, or open it from Edge Settings. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux.
- Choose the full-page capture option rather than a selection or visible-area capture.
- Review the result. If needed, use the markup tools before saving.
- Choose the option to copy the image or save it to files.
Microsoft Edge’s product documentation describes Screenshot as capturing the parts of a webpage that would otherwise require scrolling, with markup available before saving. The feature and its exact labels can vary by browser version, device type and market. If you do not see Screenshot in the context menu, open Settings and look for it there, or update Edge and check again.

Capture a full webpage in Firefox
- Open the page, then right-click an empty part of it and choose Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-click the page. The keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux and Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot interface, choose Save full page in the upper-right area.
- Choose Download to save a PNG image, or Copy to put it on the clipboard.
Firefox also lets you capture a selected region, an automatically highlighted page element, or just the visible area with Save visible. Mozilla Support documents the built-in tool as a way to capture visible parts of a page or a full webpage and then copy or save the image. The labels and placement can vary somewhat by Firefox version.
Firefox screenshot data controls
Mozilla’s support article says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction data such as whether someone uses Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the captured URL or details of the image. Mozilla also documents controls for disabling that data collection. This describes Firefox Screenshots; it should not be taken as a privacy statement for browser extensions or remote screenshot services.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for more control
When a page needs a delay to finish rendering, you want a particular device-pixel ratio, or you only need one element, Firefox’s Developer Tools provide a more configurable capture route. Open the Web Console on the page and use its :screenshot helper. The screenshot button in Developer Tools may need to be enabled in the Developer Tools settings.

Use optional parameters to wait before capturing, set the device-pixel ratio, or choose a filename. For example:
:screenshot --fullpage --delay 3 --dpr 2 --filename page.pngThis requests a three-second delay and a device-pixel ratio of 2. Use a shorter delay when the page is already ready; a longer wait can help with content that appears after a pause, but it cannot guarantee that every page element will load.

Capture one element
To capture a page element selected by CSS selector rather than the entire document, use --selector:
:screenshot --selector "#article" --filename article.pngReplace #article with a selector that matches the element you want. If it does not match anything on the page, the capture will not produce the intended result. The same helper also supports --fullpage, --delay, --dpr and --filename for controlled captures.

When an extension makes sense
An extension is worth considering when the built-in browser flow does not provide the editing or export workflow you need. OpenCapture advertises full-page capture, cropping, annotation, blurring and PNG/PDF export for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Its vendor page says capture, editing and export happen locally and nothing is uploaded; treat that as the vendor’s claim, not as an independent privacy audit. Review the extension’s current store listing, requested permissions and privacy policy before installing it. Compatibility and product terms can change.

Troubleshoot a full-page capture
The full-page option is missing
- In Edge, open Screenshot from Settings if it is not available in the page context menu. Check whether the browser version, device or market supports the feature.
- In Firefox, right-click an empty part of the page rather than an image, link or control. If the menu does not offer Take Screenshot, use the keyboard shortcut or check the browser version.
- For Firefox Developer Tools, make sure the screenshot button is enabled in its settings if you are trying to use the button rather than the console helper.
The image is incomplete or has blank sections
- Wait for visible content to finish loading before capturing. For content that appears after a pause, use Firefox’s
--delayoption. - Some pages load images only when the reader scrolls near them. A full-page capture may not trigger every site’s lazy-loading behavior. Scroll through the page first, then capture it; for automated work, choose a capture service with a full-page option that loads lazy images.
- Check whether the page itself shows a blank area, consent prompt or failed embedded content. A screenshot records the rendered state; it cannot repair a page that did not load correctly.
The image is too large or difficult to share
- Very long pages create tall image files. Capture only the relevant element when a full document is unnecessary, or use a lower device-pixel ratio in Firefox Developer Tools.
- Consider whether a PDF is more useful for a document intended to be read or printed. A PNG screenshot is a static image and may be cumbersome to navigate when it is very tall.
The command captures the wrong thing
- When using
--selector, confirm that the CSS selector matches the intended element on the current page. - If a delayed page state is missing, increase the wait modestly and check whether the site requires an interaction or authentication before showing that content.
- If the capture is unexpectedly small or blurry, review the selected device-pixel ratio and the browser’s displayed page size.
