To capture a sticky header in the state it takes while scrolling, scroll the page until the header is visibly stuck, then capture the current viewport. Choose a full-page screenshot only when you need the entire document in one image; inspect the result because sticky elements may not render the same way in every full-page capture.
Choose the capture that matches what you need
- Show the header as it appears while scrolling: scroll until it reaches its stuck position, then capture the visible viewport. This preserves the live on-screen state you are trying to show.
- Show the whole document: use a full-page capture, then check that the header and page content appear as intended. A full-page image is not necessarily equivalent to a screenshot of the page while it is actively scrolled.
- Show just the header: use an element or node capture when your browser offers one. This is useful for isolating the header, but it may not show how the header relates to the page beneath it.
Before saving, make sure the header is actually in its sticky state: some headers only stick after you scroll past a particular point, and some sites change their appearance as you scroll.
Capture the visible sticky-header state in Firefox
- Open the page and scroll until the header is in the position you want to document.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot tool by right-clicking an empty area of the page and choosing Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save visible to capture the current viewport.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard, then check that the saved image shows the header in the intended state.
Firefox’s screenshot interface also offers full-page, region, and selected-page-part captures. Use those when they match the image you need, rather than assuming a full-page capture will reproduce the live scrolled view.
Capture a whole page or selected element in Firefox
Full-page capture from the screenshot interface
- Open the screenshot interface using the same right-click menu or keyboard shortcut.
- Select Save full page.
- Review the resulting image, especially if the header is sticky or the page contains dynamic content.
Whole-page capture from Firefox DevTools
Firefox DevTools includes a whole-page screenshot button. If it is missing, open DevTools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.

Capture a specific element
In the Inspector, open the context menu for the element you want and choose Screenshot Node. This is an option for capturing the header itself; it is different from capturing the full visible page with the header stuck in place.
Use the Web Console screenshot helper for extra control
Firefox’s Web Console :screenshot helper supports full-page capture with --fullpage, element selection with --selector, a delay, device-pixel-ratio control, a filename, and clipboard output. A delay can give a hover state or menu time to appear before capture. Check Firefox’s command help for the exact syntax and available parameters in your version; the options document capture controls, not a guarantee that every site’s sticky elements will render identically.
Capture with Chrome DevTools
Chrome DevTools documents screenshots of a node, a node larger than the screen, a mobile view, a full page, or an area. For a faithful image of the sticky header’s current state, first scroll it into view and use a viewport capture. If you choose full-page capture, inspect the output to confirm the header and the page content look right.

Sticky headers and other dynamic page elements can behave differently during full-page capture than they do in a live viewport. Browser documentation describes the available capture modes, but does not establish universal behavior for every site. Confirm the image shows the state you meant to capture.
- For a live sticky state, check that the header is visible and positioned correctly in the captured viewport.
- For a full-page image, check whether the header appears once, repeats, overlaps content, or is absent.
- If a menu, hover state, or other transient element matters, use a delay or the relevant element-capture control where available, then verify the result.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can return a website screenshot or PDF from one GET request. Its clean-shot process accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. It does not bill bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, or cache hits, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
For a straightforward capture, save this as a shell command and replace YOUR_API_KEY with your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API options. This request saves a screenshot of the target page; it does not itself scroll to a particular sticky-header state, so use a browser capture when that exact live scrolled state is essential.
