To keep the iPhone’s status area—such as the time and signal indicators—in a website screenshot, open the page in Safari, arrange the screen so the status area and the content you want are both visible, and take a normal screenshot without cropping off the top. On Face ID iPhones, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together; on iPhones with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home together. Check the saved image before sharing it.
Take a normal screenshot with the status area in frame
- Open the page in Safari. Navigate to the section you want to show. Leave Safari’s browser interface visible if it is part of the context you want in the image.
- Position the page. Make sure the top status area and the relevant website content are on screen at the same time. A normal screenshot records the current screen, so content outside the visible viewport will not be included.
- Capture the screen.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together.
- On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home together.
- Review and save. Inspect the screenshot preview to confirm the status area and page framing are as intended. Use the screenshot controls to crop only if needed, then save. Apple’s support instructions say screenshots are saved to Photos by default.
Apple also documents AssistiveTouch, Back Tap, and voice command as alternatives to the button combinations. The precise steps for those alternatives depend on how the relevant accessibility feature is configured on your iPhone.

Choose between a screen capture and a Full Page capture
| Capture type | What it covers | Output and framing | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal screenshot | The screen currently visible on the iPhone | An ordinary screenshot image; the status area and Safari interface remain in frame if they are visible when you capture | Showing a page section together with the iPhone’s visible status area |
| Safari Full Page | A longer webpage beyond the current screen | Apple documents saving the full-page capture as an image or PDF. Its reviewed instructions do not specify how the status bar appears in every iOS version or Safari configuration. | Capturing an entire long webpage, when the status-bar framing is not the main requirement |
Capture a long webpage
- Take a screenshot of the webpage in Safari.
- Tap Full Page in the screenshot preview.
- Inspect the preview to confirm that it captured the content and framing you need.
- Save the result as an image or PDF.
Full Page is a different capture workflow from a normal viewport screenshot. If the status indicators must be present in a long-page result, inspect the saved output on your device rather than assuming it will match the current-screen capture.
What “iPhone safe area” means
For this task, “safe area visible” most likely means that the visible top portion of the iPhone screen, including status indicators, has not been cropped out. In web and app development, however, a safe area is a layout concept: it describes screen space that content should avoid when bars, controls, or device edges could obscure it.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Apple’s UIKit documentation defines a view’s safe area in relation to areas obscured by navigation bars, tab bars, toolbars, and other ancestors. WebKit’s iPhone X guidance describes CSS environment variables such as env(safe-area-inset-top) for positioning webpage content around device edges. These are layout tools, not a setting that changes how the iPhone takes a screenshot.
Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines say the status bar is generally useful to keep visible in iOS apps. That is design guidance, not a guarantee about how Safari’s Full Page capture renders the status bar.

Troubleshooting framing problems
- The status area is missing: Check whether you took a normal screenshot or selected Full Page, and inspect the saved image rather than relying only on the preview. For a straightforward status-area view, return to the normal Safari screen, position the page, and capture again without cropping the top.
- The page content does not fit with the status area: A normal screenshot can only show what fits in the current viewport. Scroll to a different section or use Full Page if capturing the long document matters more than matching the viewport framing.
- The screenshot buttons do not work as expected: Use the combination for your iPhone’s design—Side plus Volume Up on Face ID models, or Side plus Home on models with a Home button. AssistiveTouch, Back Tap, and voice command are documented alternatives.
- The saved image looks different from the preview: Reopen the saved capture in Photos and check the actual output. Crop or retake it if the final framing is wrong.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a website screenshot generated from a URL rather than a capture of the current iPhone screen, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API. For example, this cURL request returns an image file:
Recommended Free Tools
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. It accepts and removes cookie or consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides tools for AI agents to take screenshots, inspect page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
