To capture a website at a custom viewport with ScreenshotAPI, send the target page URL with the desired width and height. Those dimensions control the rendered browser viewport; use full_page=true only when you need the page beyond the visible area. ScreenshotAPI’s custom viewport documentation describes the available options.
Choose the viewport and capture area
First decide what you need to inspect: a responsive layout at a specific browser size, the whole scrollable page, or just one element or region. For a responsive check, choose width and height to match the breakpoint or display size you want to test. ScreenshotAPI lists 390×844 for mobile, 1024×768 for tablet, and 1440×900 for desktop as examples, not required presets or universal standards.

- Visible viewport: Set the desired width and height and leave full-page capture off. The result covers the browser area at those dimensions.
- Full page: Set
full_page=trueto capture the scrollable document beyond the fold, as described in ScreenshotAPI’s documentation. - Specific element or rectangle: Use the selector or clip controls rather than treating the request as a normal viewport capture. The clip option describes a region with x/y coordinates and width/height. See the element capture documentation.
Make a custom-viewport request
- Choose the exact page URL, including the path and any query string the page needs.
- Set
widthandheightto the intended viewport dimensions. - Choose an image format—PNG, JPG, or WebP—or PDF if you need a document-style capture. ScreenshotAPI’s parameter documentation covers the capture options.
- Authenticate using the API key obtained through the dashboard. The getting-started material says to use it as the request token; check the live reference for the current exact authentication syntax before using a production request: ScreenshotAPI documentation and ScreenshotAPI getting started.
For example, if you are testing a mobile breakpoint, use the width and height for the layout you need to verify rather than assuming a named device preset will match it. The correct dimensions depend on the page and the breakpoint under test.

These modes answer different questions. A viewport screenshot shows what is visible at the chosen browser size; a full-page screenshot extends down the document. Use the former to check above-the-fold layout, responsive navigation, or the initial view. Use the latter when you need to review the complete page in one capture. ScreenshotAPI documents full_page=true for the second case.

When to capture an element instead
If your goal is a component—such as a chart, card, or embedded panel—rather than the visible browser area, use the element or clip controls. A clip is a rectangular area described by x/y coordinates and width/height; it is not equivalent to setting the overall viewport dimensions. The available element options are documented at ScreenshotAPI’s documentation.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is another option: its API accepts a URL and viewport settings and returns a screenshot or PDF. One GET request can capture the page; for example, this cURL request saves the result as WebP:
