To capture a website at a 360 × 800 mobile viewport, set the browser viewport to 360 CSS pixels wide by 800 CSS pixels high, then take a viewport screenshot. In desktop Chrome, use DevTools Device Mode; for repeatable captures, set the Playwright viewport before navigating. These dimensions describe the emulated browser viewport, not necessarily the saved image’s pixel dimensions or the behavior of a physical phone.
Choose what the screenshot should include
- Visible viewport: captures the currently visible 360 × 800 area.
- Full page: includes scrollable content below the initial viewport, so the resulting image is taller than 800 pixels.
Decide which you need before capture. A full-page screenshot is useful for reviewing an entire page, but it is not a picture of a page constrained to an 800-pixel-tall output.

Capture a 360 × 800 screenshot in Chrome DevTools
- Open the website in desktop Chrome, then open DevTools.
- Toggle the Device Toolbar.
- Set the device mode to Responsive. Enter 360 for width and 800 for height.
- Wait for the page layout and any viewport-dependent or lazy-loaded content to settle.
- In the Device Toolbar, open More options and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport. Choose Capture a full size screenshot if you want the full scrollable page instead.
Chrome describes Device Mode as a first-order approximation of a mobile experience. It simulates selected conditions from a desktop browser; it does not reproduce every aspect of a particular phone. Validate on a real device when handset-specific behavior matters. See Chrome’s Device Mode documentation.
Automate repeatable captures with Playwright
Set the viewport to 360 × 800 before navigation so the site sees the intended dimensions during its initial layout. This Node.js example saves the visible viewport as a PNG:

The full-page result is not restricted to 800 pixels in height.
Playwright can emulate additional properties such as screen dimensions, user agent, and touch behavior. Configure them when your test requires them; setting a viewport alone does not establish that a page works on a physical handset. Refer to Playwright’s emulation guide and the Page API documentation.

CSS pixels and saved image pixels
The 360 × 800 values above are CSS viewport pixels. Playwright’s screenshot scale option controls how CSS pixels map to output bitmap pixels: css produces an image using CSS-pixel dimensions, while device uses the device scale factor. If you need the saved file itself to measure exactly 360 × 800 pixels, use CSS scale:

Troubleshoot common mismatches
The page looks like desktop even at 360 pixels wide
Confirm the Device Toolbar is enabled and Responsive mode is selected, then check that the width field reads 360. In Playwright, create the page with the viewport set before calling goto; changing dimensions only after navigation can miss layout decisions made during initial load.

The saved image is not 360 × 800 pixels
Check whether you captured the full page, which extends beyond 800 pixels, or used device-scale output. For an exact 360 × 800 bitmap from Playwright, capture the viewport with scale: 'css'.
Images or page sections are missing
Wait for the page to render before capture. Lazy-loaded content may require scrolling or additional time to appear. If a site relies on network activity that does not settle, use an appropriate wait condition rather than assuming navigation completion means every visual element is ready.

The capture differs from a real phone
Desktop emulation approximates mobile behavior; it is not hardware validation. Check the page on the target handset when touch behavior, device-specific browser behavior, or physical display characteristics affect the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does 360 × 800 mean the screenshot file will be exactly 360 × 800 pixels?
Not necessarily. Those values specify the CSS viewport; full-page capture or device-scale output can produce a different bitmap size.
