To capture a website after it finishes loading in VisualScraper, wait for the content you need—not just the browser’s initial navigation event. If your version offers it, use a selector or JavaScript condition that indicates the target content is ready. Use a page-load event or network-idle only when it fits the page, and use a short, bounded delay as a fallback. VisualScraper’s exact controls and timeout limits are not verified here, so check the documentation for your version before following a specific menu path.
Choose a wait that matches the content
A page can finish parsing its initial HTML while JavaScript is still fetching data or updating the visible interface. A loading shell may appear well before the content you want. Choose the wait signal based on what must be present in the capture.
| Wait strategy | What it indicates | Best fit | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| DOMContentLoaded | The initial HTML has been parsed. | You need an early document milestone. | Scripts can still add or populate content afterward. |
| Page load | Page resources have finished loading. | Resources such as images are important to the capture. | It does not prove that app-specific data or hydration is complete. |
| Network idle | Network activity has been quiet for a period. | Asynchronous requests settle and the page has no persistent traffic. | Background requests can prevent it from settling, and quiet network activity does not guarantee the right content rendered. |
| Selector or JavaScript condition | A chosen element or application state is present. | You can identify a reliable marker for the finished content. | The selector or condition must indicate actual readiness, not merely the page shell. |
| Fixed delay | A selected amount of time has elapsed. | No observable readiness signal is available. | A delay can be too short on slow runs and waste time on fast ones. |
Prefer a content-specific selector or condition when VisualScraper exposes one. For example, wait for a results container that is populated, rather than a generic header that appears immediately. The shot-scraper documentation illustrates a JavaScript-condition wait; capture-website documents waiting until a matching element is visible. Those examples explain general approaches, not VisualScraper feature availability or menu labels.
Set up the capture around a readiness marker
- Identify the finished state. Open the page normally and find an element or state that distinguishes the real content from a spinner, skeleton, or empty shell. If rendered HTML is available, inspect it to see whether the content is present.
- Check how the page gets its content. Determine whether it is in the initial HTML, added by JavaScript, fetched asynchronously, loaded only when visible, or revealed by a click or other interaction.
- Choose the corresponding wait. Use a selector or condition for application-specific readiness, a lifecycle event for a document/resource milestone, or network-idle if requests settle predictably.
- Perform required interactions before capturing. If a control must be clicked or content appears only after scrolling, do that first, then wait for the resulting content—not merely for the click or scroll to finish.
- Use a bounded delay only if needed. When no readiness marker is available, start with a modest delay and compare captures across slow and fast runs. Do not treat one duration as universally reliable.
- Verify the result. Check the screenshot for the expected content. If it is missing, adjust the readiness marker or interaction sequence before simply increasing the delay.
Exact controls and limits depend on the VisualScraper version. Consult that version’s documentation for the actual setting names and timeout behavior; the general browser events and approaches described here do not establish that VisualScraper exposes each one.

Handle lazy-loaded and interaction-triggered content
Some sites load content when it becomes visible; others wait for an explicit interaction. If the target is below the fold, a capture that stops at the top of the page may never cause it to load. Scroll to the relevant area or trigger the control if the site requires it, and then wait for the content to appear.
Google Search Central recommends that content intended to load when visible should load when visible without requiring a user action such as scrolling or clicking. That is guidance for making content accessible to Google’s crawler, which does not interact with pages; it is not a description of VisualScraper’s behavior. For a capture workflow, an explicit scroll or click may still be needed when the page itself requires that interaction.

Why the capture shows a spinner or blank page
- The wait ends too early: an initial document event completed, but JavaScript has not populated the target. Wait for a content-specific selector or condition if available.
- The marker is too generic: a page shell or container exists before its data does. Choose a marker that appears only when the desired content is ready.
- Network-idle never arrives: persistent background requests can keep activity going. Try a selector or application-state condition instead.
- Network-idle arrives but content is still missing: network quiet is not proof that the application rendered correctly. Verify the target state directly.
- Content is lazy-loaded: scroll to the target or otherwise make it visible, then wait for it.
- A control must be activated: perform the required click or action before waiting for the updated content.
- The delay is inconsistent: a duration adequate on a fast run may fail on a slower one. Prefer a readiness condition, or evaluate captures under both conditions.
- The captured output differs from what you expected: confirm whether the workflow captures a screenshot, rendered HTML, or extracted data; these can have different capture points.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a screenshot or PDF. For a screenshot, for example:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
