To capture a webpage as a PDF with GrabzIt, send the page’s URL to GrabzIt’s URL-to-PDF capture method, choose any layout options you need, and then complete the save or retrieval step for your chosen client. GrabzIt also documents separate routes for converting an HTML string or an HTML file. You’ll need a GrabzIt application key and secret to use its API.
Choose the right input method
- URL-to-PDF: Use this for a webpage you can identify by URL. This is the route for capturing a live page.
- HTML-to-PDF: Use this when you already have the page markup as a string.
- HTML-file-to-PDF: Use this when your source is an HTML file.
GrabzIt’s Node.js documentation lists all three input routes. The API is a separate web service, not the browser’s built-in “Save as PDF” command. See the GrabzIt API overview for its capture and conversion interfaces.

Set up access and select an interface
- Obtain your GrabzIt application key and secret through your account.
- Choose a language client or the REST interface that fits your application. The API overview describes the available access methods.
- Keep the credentials private. GrabzIt advises protecting the key and secret; account access can also be restricted by domain and IP.
Exact method names and capture-completion behavior vary by client. Follow the documentation for the language or interface you choose rather than assuming every client uses the same save call.

Choose PDF layout settings
Adjust settings to suit the page and the document you need. GrabzIt’s Node.js technical documentation lists these PDF controls and defaults:

These are configurable options, not universally ideal settings. Page breaks, fonts, dynamic content, and a site’s CSS can affect the result, so verify the PDF for the particular page you are capturing.
Submit the capture and retrieve the PDF
After requesting a capture, complete the client’s save or retrieval flow to obtain the resulting PDF. For Java, GrabzIt’s guide explicitly says to call either Save or SaveTo after requesting the PDF capture. That instruction is specific to the documented Java workflow; use the completion method for your own client.

For REST requests, GrabzIt documents controls beyond the PDF layout settings, including browser width and height, full-page height, a delay, capture country, and a cover URL. These let you configure aspects of how a capture is made; they do not guarantee a particular rendering outcome on every target page. See the GrabzIt REST API documentation for the available options.

Common problems and checks
- The capture request is accepted, but no PDF is saved: Check whether your selected client requires a separate completion or retrieval call. In the documented Java workflow, that means calling
SaveorSaveTo. - The PDF layout differs from the webpage: Check page size, orientation, and whether Screen or Print CSS is appropriate. A site may render differently for print, and its CSS can affect pagination.
- The page is cut off or spans unexpected pages: Review the target page’s layout and the capture’s browser dimensions or full-page settings where available. Test the selected configuration against the page rather than assuming one setting works for every site.
- Your request cannot authenticate: Confirm that the application key and secret are correct and that any domain or IP restrictions on the account allow the request.
- You are converting markup rather than a live page: Use the HTML-string or HTML-file route, as appropriate, instead of URL-to-PDF.
