Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Wait for a condition that represents the React view you need—not merely for a fixed number of milliseconds—then take the screenshot. If you control the app, expose a readiness marker after the required data and UI are present, and wait for that marker with Puppeteer’s page.waitForFunction().
Wait for the app’s screenshot-ready state
Puppeteer does not provide a universal “React has finished rendering” flag. React views can update after navigation as data arrives or application state changes, so define readiness in terms of the actual content the screenshot must contain.

For example, the app can set an app-owned global flag only after the required data is loaded and the target view has rendered. The flag below is illustrative; it is not built into React or Puppeteer.
import puppeteer from 'puppeteer';
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com/dashboard', {
waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded',
});
// The application sets this only when the screenshot's required state is rendered.
await page.waitForFunction(() => window.__APP_READY__ === true, {
timeout: 30_000,
});
await page.screenshot({path: 'dashboard.png', fullPage: true});
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
page.waitForFunction() repeatedly evaluates a predicate in the page context until it returns a truthy value; it can also accept asynchronous predicates and arguments. Puppeteer documents a default 30-second timeout for this family of waits, which you can configure. See the Page.waitForFunction API and wait options.
#1 Best Overall
The application should set its marker only after the state intended for the image is represented in the DOM. For a dashboard, that might mean the required API response has arrived, the loading indicator is gone, and the chart or table contains its data—not merely that the React root mounted.
Choose a readiness signal that fits the page
| Signal | Use it when | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| App-owned predicate or marker | You control the application and can define exactly which data and UI state the screenshot requires. | It requires an explicit application contract; Puppeteer and React do not create this marker for you. |
| Selector or locator | A meaningful, stable element signals that the useful view is present. | Presence alone may happen before data is complete or before a later update. |
| Network idle | Relevant page work correlates with a period of network quiet. | Background traffic can prevent idleness, and quiet networking does not prove the target UI is complete. |
| Fixed delay | You are doing a quick diagnostic and need a simple temporary pause. | It can be too short on a slow run and waste time on a fast one; it does not verify readiness. |
Use a selector when the element itself is meaningful
If a stable element is a useful readiness signal, wait for its selector before capturing. Puppeteer’s locator checks include presence and state checks, as well as stable bounding boxes across consecutive animation frames. Those checks help establish that an element is ready for interaction, but they do not prove that application data requirements have been met. See Puppeteer page interactions.

Use network idle as a supporting condition
Puppeteer’s screenshot guide shows navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2', and page.waitForNetworkIdle() is also available. Network idleness describes network activity; it is not a documented guarantee that a data-dependent React view has finished rendering. A page may keep polling, or its network may go quiet before a later state change. Use network idle when it helps, but prefer an app-owned state or meaningful target condition as the decisive signal. See the screenshots guide and waitForNetworkIdle.

Keep any wait bounded
Give readiness waits a finite timeout. If the condition never becomes true, treat that as a failed readiness contract to investigate rather than taking an unverified frame. A short delay may be useful during one-off troubleshooting, but should not be the only check in a reliable capture flow.

Capture the full page, a region, or one component
- Full page: use
page.screenshot({ path: 'dashboard.png', fullPage: true })after the readiness wait. - Specific region: pass a
cliprectangle to the screenshot options. - One component: wait for its target element and call
element.screenshot(). Puppeteer scrolls the element into view if necessary; a detached element causes an error.
Consult the screenshots guide, ScreenshotOptions, and ElementHandle.screenshot for the relevant capture options and behavior.
Troubleshoot blank, loading, or incomplete captures
The screenshot still shows a loading screen
Your predicate may be tied to page navigation or root mounting rather than the data and view state required by the image. Move the readiness signal to the point where the required content is rendered. If the app is not under your control, wait for a meaningful content selector, while recognizing that its presence may not prove all data is complete.

The readiness wait times out
Check whether the page can reach the state your predicate expects: the marker may never be set, may be set under a different name, or may depend on a failed request. Inspect the page’s application state and choose a condition that matches the intended screenshot. Keep the timeout finite and configurable rather than falling through to a capture when the condition fails.
Network-idle waiting hangs or captures too early
Ongoing polling or other background requests can prevent network idle. Conversely, network quiet can arrive before a delayed UI update. Use an app-owned predicate or a meaningful target condition for correctness, and use network idle only as an additional signal when it suits the page.

An element screenshot fails
An element handle can become detached if React replaces that node between the wait and capture. Wait for or reacquire the current target element close to the capture step; Puppeteer documents a detached-element error for element screenshots.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its cleanup accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for screenshots, page information, and PDF capture.
For example, using cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/dashboard -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://example.com/dashboard"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({
access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
url: 'https://example.com/dashboard',
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
