Make a full-page screenshot with the REST API
This example requests a PNG, scrolls the page first to trigger scroll-based loading, then writes the returned image bytes to screenshot.png:

Keep it private; avoid committing it to source control or exposing it in client-side code. - Replace the example URL with the page to capture. Use the regional endpoint appropriate to your account; the hostname above is the documented example.
- Run the command from a shell with
curl. On success, the response image is saved asscreenshot.png.
The REST quickstart returns image data rather than a JSON wrapper. Save the raw response bytes instead of trying to parse them as JSON. See the Browserless screenshot example.
Set full-page capture and lazy loading deliberately
Capture beyond the viewport
options.fullPage: true asks Browserless to capture the full page rather than only what is visible in the current viewport. Without it, the screenshot is limited to the viewport. The rendered width still affects the page layout, so choose a viewport that matches the desktop or mobile presentation you need. Trigger scroll-loaded content
Some pages defer images or other sections until a visitor scrolls near them. For the REST screenshot request, scrollPage: true scrolls the page before capture to trigger this loading. It is useful for ordinary lazy loading, but it does not guarantee a complete image of every infinite-scroll or highly interactive page: some sites need page-specific actions or a finite stopping point.
In Browserless BAP, the corresponding preparation is page.scroll({ throughPage: true }), followed by page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }). The documented walkthrough scrolls in viewport-sized steps and returns to the top. See Interacting with pages in BAP.

Wait for images or page-specific content
For image-heavy pages, Browserless’s BAP documentation describes waitForImages. If a page requires a custom wait, a click, or another interaction before it is ready, use a connected browser workflow rather than assuming a single REST capture will perform that page-specific step. Check the options for the specific Browserless interface you use; an option documented for one endpoint should not be assumed to apply to all others.

Choose image format or capture a region
PNG, JPEG, or WebP
The REST documentation shows PNG; Browserless also documents JPEG and WebP options. PNG is lossless and ignores a lossy-quality setting. JPEG and WebP can be used when smaller output matters, with quality affecting those lossy formats. Confirm the exact option names and support for the endpoint you are calling in the Screenshot API documentation.
Capture an element or a fixed region
If you need only part of a page, Browserless documents a selector option for targeting an element and clip for a rectangle defined by coordinates and dimensions. These are alternatives to capturing the whole document: use full-page capture for broad coverage, and a selector or clip when the deliverable should focus on a particular region. Option support can vary by interface; consult the BAP screenshot options before applying an option to a different endpoint.

Background and image handling
Browserless’s BAP documentation lists waitForImages and omitBackground. These can help with image readiness or transparent output where supported, but they should not be treated as universal REST options without checking the endpoint’s documentation.
When to use a screenshot instead of a PDF
A full-page screenshot produces a long image. Browserless’s /pdf REST endpoint uses Chrome’s print pipeline and does not produce one continuous long-page PDF of the entire webpage. Browserless points to its /function API for custom full-page PDF generation. Use /screenshot when the required deliverable is a single long image; use the PDF route when you want a print-style document. See the Browserless PDF API documentation.

Troubleshoot missing or incomplete captures
- The image stops at the visible area: confirm the request body has
"fullPage": trueinsideoptions, not at the top level. - Images or sections are missing: enable top-level
"scrollPage": truefor the REST request. If the site needs explicit interaction or waits, use a connected browser workflow. Browserless also describes image waiting in BAP; see its screenshots guide. - The layout is unexpectedly mobile or desktop: set the viewport deliberately before capture in the workflow that controls the browser. Responsive design changes with rendered width.
- The saved file is not a usable image: verify that the request completed successfully and that you saved the response bytes directly. The REST example returns image data, not a JSON object.
- A very long or infinite-scroll page is still incomplete: scrolling can trigger ordinary lazy loading, but the documentation does not promise that every dynamic page becomes a finite complete capture. Identify the site’s stopping condition and perform the needed page-specific actions in a connected workflow.
