If the text still looks wrong, check whether the intended font loaded and whether the Marathi content is present; document.fonts.ready is a synchronization point, not proof that the right font or glyphs rendered.
Capture after the page and its relevant fonts are ready
This Playwright pattern waits for the page to load, for the body to exist, and for the document font set to settle before saving a full-page PNG. Replace the URL with the Marathi page you need to capture.

If a site loads the target text only after scrolling or interaction, trigger that state first, then wait for the relevant content and fonts. A fixed delay alone is not a reliable substitute for checking the page’s actual state.

A screenshot records pixels. It cannot tell you on its own whether text is missing from the page or merely rendered with boxes, fallback glyphs, or an unexpected typeface. Inspect the rendered page in the same browser and runtime used for capture, and separately inspect the text or accessibility structure when diagnosing a visual problem. Playwright describes screenshots as visual verification and accessibility snapshots as a way to inspect structure: Playwright Screenshots & PDF.

The browser’s font set can differ from the fonts declared in CSS. In particular, optional fonts may not load in time, as MDN notes in its description of document.fonts: MDN: Document: fonts property. A fallback font may make the text visible while changing its appearance. Chrome’s guidance on web-font loading explains how a system font may display before a custom font is ready and how switching fonts can affect layout: Chrome for Developers: Ensure text remains visible during webfont load.
- Confirm the Marathi content appears in the page, rather than assuming a visual issue means the text is absent.
- Check that the intended font resource loaded and that the rendered glyphs are Marathi characters, not replacement boxes.
- Do not treat a resolved
document.fonts.readypromise as confirmation that every desired font face loaded or contains the necessary characters.
Choose viewport or full-page capture deliberately
Use fullPage: true when you need the entire document in one image. Omit it for a viewport capture. Full-page capture does not guarantee that content deferred until scrolling has loaded; scroll or otherwise trigger lazy content before capturing when the target text depends on it. Make visual comparisons reproducible
For regression snapshots, Playwright’s toHaveScreenshot() waits until two consecutive screenshots match before saving or comparing. That stabilizes capture timing, but it does not make different environments render identical pixels. Playwright warns that rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Keep the browser engine and version, operating-system image and installed fonts, headless setting, and capture mode consistent between the baseline and later runs. See Playwright Visual comparisons.

Troubleshoot incorrect text or a stalled font wait
- Marathi appears as boxes or incorrect glyphs: inspect the page in the capture browser, confirm the intended font loaded, and check whether it supports the required characters. Do not assume changing screenshot settings will repair a font or glyph problem.
- The text is visible but looks different from the design: check whether a fallback font is being used, then verify the custom font’s load state and rendered face. A fallback can display text without matching the intended appearance.
- Text is missing from the image: inspect the page’s text or accessibility structure to distinguish absent content from a visual rendering problem. Trigger any interaction or scrolling needed to reveal deferred content before capture.
- The font wait hangs: record the Playwright version, browser engine and version, operating system, and font-loading state. A report opened on 2026-09-29 and updated on 2026-09-30 describes a timeout waiting for fonts in one Linux WebKit screenshot reproduction on Playwright 1.63.0, while its 1.60.0 control passed. This is a specific report, not evidence of a universal or Marathi-specific issue: Playwright issue #42986.
There is no single font-family stack or browser configuration established here as guaranteed to render every Marathi website correctly. Diagnose the actual font and output in the environment where you capture.

No. It signals that the document’s font set has settled, but optional fonts may not load in time, and it does not establish that a particular face supports the required characters.
Why can two captures of the same Marathi page look different?
Browser version, operating system and installed fonts, headless mode, and other settings can affect rendering. Standardize those conditions for visual comparisons.
