Width and height are separate choices: use a height of full, as in 480xfull, when you need the entire page rather than the initial viewport. “Mobile-width” describes the requested rendering width; it does not by itself establish that the result exactly matches a particular physical handset.
Capture a phone-width screenshot through the API
ScreenshotMachine documents a GET request to https://api.screenshotmachine.com/. The target page URL and customer key are required inputs. The API returns the screenshot image, which you can save to a file.

- Choose the page URL and obtain a ScreenshotMachine customer key. Treat the key like a password; do not put a real key in public examples, source repositories, or client-side code.
- Set
device=phoneand choose adimensioninwidthxheightform. The documentation’s phone example is480x800; it is an example, not a universal ideal width. - For the initial viewport, use a numeric height such as
800. To capture the full document at the chosen width, set the height tofull. - Request the endpoint and save its image response. The example below requests PNG output.
For example, replace the placeholders with your own key and URL (URL-encode the target URL):

Choose the width, height, and rendering behavior

There is no single best mobile width established by the documentation. Choose a width that fits the layout or test you need to inspect, then keep the device mode, width, height, full-page setting, and delay consistent when comparing captures.
Allow time for long or animated pages
The delay parameter sets a wait before screenshot creation. ScreenshotMachine documents a 200 ms default and supported values from 0 through 10000 ms in its specified increments. For a long full-page capture with images or animations, its documentation suggests a longer delay, such as 2000 ms or more. Increase it when the result shows content that appears late, but do not treat any fixed delay as proof that all network activity or dynamic content has completed.

Check the result and troubleshoot common problems
- The capture is desktop-width: Check that the request explicitly sets
device=phone; the documented default isdesktop. - The screenshot cuts off the page: A numeric height captures a bounded image. Use a height of
fullfor a full-page capture at the requested width. - Images or animated content are missing: Increase
delaywithin the documented range. Longer full-page captures with images or animations may need 2000 ms or more, but no delay guarantees every dynamic element will appear. - The request fails or produces no expected image: Confirm the target
urlis percent-encoded, the customerkeyis valid, and the request uses the documented endpoint. The documentation identifies these as request inputs but does not establish a specific error-code map. - The requested dimensions are rejected or unsuitable: Check that width is between 100 and 1920 pixels and numeric height between 100 and 9999 pixels, or use
fullfor height. - The result does not look exactly like a physical phone: The phone mode and optional user-agent are capture settings, not evidence of exact handset fidelity. Compare the requested viewport, device mode, and user-agent with the test you intend to perform.
