To preview a website at the current 8.3-inch iPad mini’s portrait viewport, set the browser to 744 × 1133 CSS pixels (points) and a 2× pixel ratio. On a Mac, Safari’s Responsive Design Mode lets you enter those dimensions and capture the page; use Chrome DevTools if you specifically need its full-size screenshot option. These are browser previews, not proof of identical behavior on a physical iPad mini.
Use Safari Responsive Design Mode
- Enable the Develop menu if needed. In Safari on macOS, open Safari’s settings and enable Show features for web developers in Advanced settings. The exact label can vary by Safari version. Apple documents Responsive Design Mode as part of Safari’s developer tools: Responsive Design Mode.
- Open the page and enter Responsive Design Mode. Choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode, or press Control-Command-R. The mode previews how a page responds to viewport width, height, and pixel ratio.
- Enter the iPad mini dimensions. Use 744 × 1133 for portrait. For landscape, swap the values to 1133 × 744. Apple lists those logical dimensions for its current 8.3-inch iPad mini: Human Interface Guidelines: Layout.
- Set pixel ratio to 2×. The listed display resolution is 1488 × 2266 physical pixels at 2× (326 ppi). The viewport values are logical layout dimensions; pixel ratio describes the relationship between those dimensions and display pixels. Safari exposes a pixel-ratio control in Responsive Design Mode.
- Capture what you need. Use Safari’s screenshot workflow for the visible viewport. For a whole-page image, use an available full-page capture option or capture sections and assemble them. Screenshot menu labels can change between Safari releases, so check the current menus rather than relying on a fixed path.
Choose viewport-only or full-page capture
Visible viewport
A viewport screenshot records the area currently visible at the selected dimensions. It is useful for checking the initial layout, navigation, and above-the-fold content.

Chrome DevTools offers Capture a full size screenshot in its screenshot menu. This captures content beyond the visible viewport, unlike a viewport-only image. To emulate the iPad mini, use Device Mode’s responsive controls to set 744 × 1133 in portrait or 1133 × 744 in landscape before capturing. Chrome’s menus may shift between versions; see Chrome DevTools Device Mode.

A 744 × 1133 capture is a useful layout preview at those dimensions. It does not establish that a live site behaves identically across iPad mini generations, Safari versions, orientations, browser-chrome states, or when the software keyboard is open. Apple cautions that viewport presets are approximations: “Viewport size presets offer a good approximation, but they don’t represent exact layout, rendering, and behavior as experienced on an actual device.” Apple recommends opening the page with Simulator for a more accurate preview; see Apple’s Responsive Design Mode documentation. WebKit also explains that iOS and iPadOS rendering can differ from macOS because the form factors and interaction models differ: WebKit Blog.
