To capture lazy-loaded content reliably, scroll through the WordPress page in steps to trigger viewport-based loading, wait for a meaningful page-specific condition, then take a full-page screenshot with fullPage: true. That option captures the document’s full scrollable extent; it does not itself guarantee that offscreen images or other deferred content were requested and rendered.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss images
Playwright’s fullPage: true option controls screenshot extent: it asks Playwright to include the full scrollable page rather than only the current viewport. Lazy loading is a separate behavior. A site may defer an image or section until it approaches the viewport, so taking a full-page screenshot without first triggering that behavior can produce missing or incomplete content.

Navigation readiness is also not the same as content readiness. Playwright’s load state waits for dependent resources such as images, but content activated only after scrolling may not yet have been requested. domcontentloaded means the document has been parsed; it does not mean deferred content is ready. - Navigate to the page, choosing a navigation state appropriate to the site.
- Scroll through the document in increments, pausing briefly so viewport-triggered loading can run.
- Wait for evidence of readiness, such as a lower-page heading, expected content, or successful image state.
- Capture with
fullPage: true. - Inspect the result when completeness matters; do not assume a successful screenshot call means every resource loaded.

})();The scroll increment and 150 ms pause are starting heuristics, not universal timing guarantees. The main visibility check only confirms that the element is visible; it does not prove that every image loaded. Replace it with an assertion or locator for content that matters on your page, and use image-state checks when image completeness is important. WordPress’s Playwright guidance favors locators and retrying web-first assertions for meaningful conditions: E2E Testing with Playwright and WordPress Playground.
Choose a wait condition that matches the page

Playwright’s Page API says: “networkidle – DISCOURAGED consider operation to be finished when there are no network connections for at least 500 ms. Don’t use this method for testing, rely on web assertions to assess readiness instead.” A quiet network can be unrelated to whether the content your screenshot needs is present, while analytics or other ongoing requests can prevent a quiet period.

Verify that the expected content loaded
For images represented by <img> elements, inspect currentSrc, complete, and naturalWidth. A populated source and complete: true with a positive naturalWidth are useful signs that an image loaded successfully. A zero width or an unexpected source warrants investigation, but browser properties alone do not diagnose every failure.
Also verify page-specific content: assert that a known heading or last expected item exists, and check a known item or image count when appropriate. These checks do not cover CSS background images, iframe contents, video frames, or widgets that use their own loading mechanisms; inspect those separately if they are part of the required capture.

Adapt the workflow for pages that keep changing
Infinite scroll or content appended during scrolling
A single pass based on the initial document height may stop before an infinite feed has finished growing. Define an explicit stopping condition, such as reaching a known last item or observing that the content height or item count remains unchanged over several passes. Add a maximum iteration count or overall timeout so the capture cannot scroll indefinitely.
Nested scroll containers
If content lives in a nested scrollable element, scrolling window will not necessarily trigger it. Identify that container and scroll it through the relevant content, then return it to the intended capture position. Playwright can scroll elements into view as part of actions, but that is not the same as traversing every nested scroller for a full-page capture.

Consent overlays, carousels, and other site behavior
A consent overlay can cover content or require a choice before the page can be used. Carousels may expose only the active slide, and widgets may require their own interaction. Handle the actual page behavior before capture; scrolling the document alone cannot guarantee that these elements reveal all their content.
Very large screenshots
If a full-page image is impractically large, capture the region needed rather than the entire document, or choose a screenshot scale that suits the output. The Page API documents full-page capture and screenshot scale options; check the API for the options supported by your installed Playwright version.

Troubleshooting missing or incomplete content

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Playwright’s fullPage: true trigger lazy loading?
No. It requests a screenshot of the full scrollable page; it is not a documented command to activate every site’s lazy-loading behavior. Scroll or otherwise trigger the site’s loader first.
Should I wait for networkidle before taking the screenshot?
Not as a universal readiness signal. Playwright discourages using it for tests and recommends web assertions; wait for the content or resource state your capture actually needs.
