Choose Save full page to include content beyond the visible browser area. Choose Save visible if you only need what is currently on screen.

Download the image. Give it a descriptive filename that identifies the page or procedure.

Open the saved image and check that it includes the intended content and does not show menus, transient overlays, or unrelated browser UI.
Mozilla’s Firefox support documentation describes the full-page and visible-area choices and downloading the resulting image. The saved image is useful for documentation when the complete page—not just the first screen—is the evidence readers need.
Use Firefox Developer Tools if the menu option is unavailable
Firefox also provides full-page capture through Developer Tools. The screenshot button may need to be enabled first: open Developer Tools settings and look under Available Toolbox Buttons. Use the screenshot button to capture the page; Mozilla’s Firefox Source Docs state that the resulting file is saved to Downloads.

If you do not see the button, check the Available Toolbox Buttons setting before assuming that full-page capture is unavailable. This route is useful when you prefer a developer-oriented interface, while the page context-menu route is more direct for a one-off capture.
Use the Web Console for a repeatable capture
Firefox’s Web Console screenshot command supports the --fullpage option, which includes page content outside the browser window’s current bounds. Mozilla also documents options for a filename, delay, device pixel ratio, and CSS selector.
Open Firefox’s Web Console and use its screenshot helper with the --fullpage option. Consult Mozilla’s Web Console Helpers documentation for the exact command syntax and option forms for your Firefox version; the procedural source identifies the supported option but does not establish a version-specific command line here. A delay can help when content needs time to appear, while a CSS selector is relevant when the capture should target a particular element rather than the whole page.

Ubuntu’s desktop utility is the right choice when the screenshot must show the surrounding desktop or application window. For a page that continues below the viewport, use Firefox’s browser-level full-page capture instead.

Prepare and review a screenshot for technical documentation

Wait until the page has displayed the material the documentation is meant to show.

Choose full-page capture for a whole article or procedure; choose visible-area capture when the relevant state fits on screen.

Review the downloaded image at its actual size. Confirm that the start and end of the intended content are present and that transient menus or overlays do not obscure it.

Use a filename that identifies the page or procedure so the file remains understandable outside the browser.

Common problems and fixes

The capture shows only what was on screen. Choose Save full page, not Save visible, in Firefox’s screenshot interface.

Take Screenshot is missing from the context menu. Use Firefox Developer Tools and check whether its screenshot button is enabled under Available Toolbox Buttons, or use the Web Console route.

The image omits content that appears later. Wait for the needed page content to appear before capturing. For a repeatable console workflow, Firefox’s documented screenshot helper includes a delay option.

You need a picture of the whole desktop or browser window. Use Ubuntu’s Screenshot utility for a screen, window, or selected area. For webpage content continuing below the viewport, use Firefox full-page capture instead.
