On an iPhone or iPad, open the page in Safari, take a screenshot, tap its thumbnail, and choose Full Page. Safari then exposes content below the visible screen so you can review, crop, annotate, and save the entire webpage. On iPhone, use Safari’s Share and Markup controls when the result should be a PDF. Mac Safari has documented whole-page saving options, but Apple’s Mac guide does not document the iPhone/iPad Full Page screenshot control.
Capture a full webpage on iPhone
Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide describes capturing “a full page beyond the edge of the screen” and uses an entire Safari webpage as its example. Follow these steps:
- Open the webpage in Safari and wait for the part you need to load.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Home and side buttons together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner. If you do not open the thumbnail, the screenshot is saved normally, but the extended-page controls are not available.
- At the top of the editor, tap Full Page. A tall preview replaces the screen-only image.
- Drag through the preview to inspect the page. Use the crop handles if you need to remove headers, footers, or unrelated sections. You can also use Markup to draw, add text, or highlight an area.
- Use the save action shown by the editor to store the result. The exact destination and available file choices can vary with the iOS version and the actions installed on your device.
The Full Page tab is selected inside the screenshot preview, not from Safari’s Page Menu. If you do not see it, confirm that you opened the screenshot thumbnail immediately after taking the capture and that Safari is displaying a webpage rather than a different app view. Apple’s current instructions are in Take a screenshot on iPhone.
Capture a full webpage on iPad
iPad uses the same Full Page workflow, with different hardware buttons:

- Open the target page in Safari.
- On an iPad without a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and either volume button together. On an iPad with a Home button, press and release the Home and top buttons together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail, then choose Full Page.
- Drag through the long preview to check the captured content, crop or annotate if needed, and tap Done to save.
Apple also lists Siri, AssistiveTouch, and an Apple Pencil corner swipe as alternative ways to start a screenshot, depending on the iPad model and setup. Those alternatives change only how the screenshot starts; you still select Full Page in the preview. See Apple’s iPad screenshot guide for the model-specific options.
Choose the right output

A Full Page capture is not the same thing as a Web Archive or Page Source file. Choose the format based on whether you need a visual record, an annotated document, or a restorable webpage.
Save a Safari webpage as a PDF on iPhone
Use PDF when the page is destined for a report, markup workflow, or document-sharing app rather than an image gallery:
- With the page open in Safari, open the Page Menu and tap Share. Depending on the tab layout and iOS version, you may see the Share button directly.
- Choose Markup.
- Annotate the document if required, then tap Done.
- Select Save File To, choose a folder, enter a filename, and tap Save.
Apple documents this as sharing a webpage as a PDF in Annotate and save a webpage as a PDF in Safari on iPhone. This route creates a PDF document; it is separate from selecting Full Page in the screenshot editor.

What Mac Safari can save
Apple’s Mac Safari documentation provides File > Save As, followed by either Web Archive or Page Source:
- Web Archive saves graphics and keeps links working while the destination webpages remain available.
- Page Source saves only the HTML source code, so it is useful for inspecting or retaining markup rather than preserving the rendered design.
Apple warns that some webpages may prevent items displayed on the page from being saved. The Mac guide does not establish that Safari on macOS offers the iPhone/iPad Full Page screenshot control, so do not expect the same screenshot-preview workflow on a Mac. Make the capture complete and readable
Wait for the page state you want
Open menus, expand accordions, or move to the section you want represented before taking the screenshot. A screenshot records the visible page state at capture time; it does not provide a separate control for refreshing content after the capture starts.
Inspect the long preview before saving
Drag through the Full Page preview from top to bottom. Look for clipped tables, consent dialogs, sticky headers, or a section that did not finish loading. Crop only after you have checked the complete extent.

If recipients need selectable document pages or handwritten markup, use the iPhone Share and Markup PDF path instead of treating a tall screenshot as a document. The two outputs serve different purposes.

Troubleshooting
The Full Page option is missing
Open the screenshot thumbnail immediately after capture and check that Safari is showing a webpage. If the thumbnail disappeared, take another screenshot and tap it before it vanishes. Apple’s documented Full Page control is part of the screenshot editor.
The result stops before the bottom
Return to the page, wait for visible content to finish loading, and capture again. Review the long preview by dragging through it; a page that changes as it loads may not have all sections ready at the instant the screenshot was taken.

The Mac result is not a tall screenshot
That is expected from Apple’s documented Mac workflow. Web Archive and Page Source are save formats, not the iPhone/iPad Full Page screenshot mode. Use an iPhone or iPad for Apple’s documented full-page screenshot path, or use a screenshot API for automated image or PDF output.
The saved page is incomplete on Mac
Some webpages can prevent displayed items from being saved. Try Web Archive when you need graphics and links, or Page Source when the HTML itself is the important artifact; neither guarantees that every server-side or restricted resource will be retained.
