In Playwright, take a full-page screenshot and temporarily override the page’s specific fixed or sticky header so it does not repeat in the capture. For example, use fullPage: true with style: 'header { position: static !important; }'. Replace header with the site’s actual selector, then inspect the screenshot: changing a fixed header’s positioning can change page spacing.
Why a fixed header can appear more than once
A fixed element stays attached to the viewport as the document scrolls. A sticky element behaves like a relatively positioned element until it reaches its scroll threshold, then sticks within its containing scroll area. If a capture workflow scrolls through a page and joins viewport images, a pinned header can consequently show up in multiple component images. Browser full-page screenshot implementations differ; Playwright documents a screenshot of the full scrollable page but does not specify a particular stitching algorithm. Use Playwright to capture the full page
Playwright’s screenshot API supports full-page capture and a temporary stylesheet applied only for the screenshot. This lets you change the target header without permanently modifying the page.

Check layout after overriding positioning
A fixed header is normally removed from document flow. Setting it to static can make it occupy space in the flow and shift the rest of the page. Sticky elements usually remain in normal flow before they stick, but the exact output depends on the page’s structure and styles. Inspect the captured image for shifted content, overlap, or missing sections. If the override creates unwanted spacing, use a page-specific stylesheet adjustment that preserves the intended top spacing; there is no universal CSS override that guarantees the same layout on every site.
Capture just the header instead
If the goal is an image of the header itself, rather than the whole page, take an element screenshot using the header’s locator. Playwright documents locator screenshots alongside page screenshots in the Page API.
Capture manually in Firefox
Firefox Developer Tools documents full-page screenshots and screenshots of selected elements. Its Web Console screenshot helper accepts the --fullpage flag. These are manual alternatives when you do not need a scripted Playwright workflow. The Firefox documentation describes how to capture the page; it does not establish that Firefox automatically removes repeated fixed elements, so inspect the result. Troubleshoot a repeated or shifted header
- The header still repeats: Confirm that the stylesheet selector matches the element that actually stays pinned. A site may use a class or ID rather than a plain
headerelement; inspect the page and target that specific selector. - The page content shifts: This can happen when a fixed element is returned to normal flow. Adjust the screenshot-only CSS for that page to preserve the intended spacing, then capture and inspect again.
- More than one header changes: Narrow the selector to the site-specific header instead of applying a broad rule.
- The Firefox capture still has duplicates: Firefox’s documented full-page workflow does not promise fixed-header removal. Use a capture method that allows temporary CSS, such as Playwright’s screenshot-time
styleoption. - You only need one component: Capture the header as an element instead of taking a full-page screenshot.
