To capture an entire webpage, use the browser’s full-page command rather than your operating system’s ordinary screenshot shortcut. Firefox calls it Save full page, Chrome DevTools calls it Capture a full size screenshot, Microsoft Edge offers Capture full page, and Safari on iPhone exposes Full Page after you take a screenshot. These commands include content below the visible browser window.
Choose the instructions for your device below, then inspect the saved file. Long, dynamically loaded pages, infinite feeds and nested scroll regions can require extra preparation.
Full-page screenshot versus a normal screenshot
A normal screen capture records only the pixels currently visible in the viewport. A full-page capture renders the webpage from top to bottom, including content that would require scrolling. Browser tools capture the webpage itself, not the browser tabs, address bar or desktop around it.
Use the browser’s own feature first. It avoids stitching many separate screen images and is documented for Firefox, Chrome DevTools, Microsoft Edge and iPhone Safari.

Which built-in method should you use?
| Platform | Documented command | Access path | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox desktop | Save full page | Right-click the page, then Take Screenshot | User-facing and direct; Mozilla also documents a Developer Tools command. |
| Chrome desktop | Capture a full size screenshot | DevTools, Device mode, More options | Device mode is an approximation, not a real-device capture. |
| Microsoft Edge desktop | Capture full page | Screenshot tool or Ctrl+Shift+S | Shortcut and labels can vary by version or platform. |
| iPhone Safari | Full Page | Take a screenshot, open its thumbnail, then Full Page | Apple documents an entire Safari webpage as the example. |
The procedures below follow the official instructions from Mozilla, Google, Microsoft and Apple.
Firefox desktop: use “Save full page”
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for its initial content to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty area of the page. On a device without a conventional right-click, use the equivalent context-menu gesture.
- Select Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page. Firefox generates a capture extending beyond the visible viewport.
- Save the image, or copy it if you only need to paste it into another application.
Mozilla’s user guide documents this whole-page option at Take screenshots in Firefox.
Firefox Developer Tools option
For a repeatable developer workflow, Firefox Developer Tools provides a :screenshot command with the --fullpage option. Mozilla’s command reference is at Taking screenshots — Firefox Developer Tools. Use this route when you already work in the DevTools command line or want to automate captures locally; the context-menu workflow is simpler for one-off images.
Chrome desktop: capture the full size page from DevTools
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with the browser’s developer-tools shortcut or from the Chrome menu.
- Turn on Device mode using the phone-and-tablet icon in the DevTools toolbar. Google’s documented route requires Device mode for the full-size command.
- Open More options (the three-dot menu in DevTools).
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
- Wait for Chrome to save the resulting image, then open it and check the bottom of the page.
Google describes this command in its Device mode guide. Device mode changes the emulated viewport; it is only an approximation of a mobile device. Therefore, a desktop capture made while Device mode is enabled should not be described as a screenshot from a physical phone.

Microsoft Edge: use Screenshot and “Capture full page”
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S to open the Screenshot tool.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the result, add markup if needed, then copy or save it.
Microsoft documents the shortcut, whole-page capture and markup controls on its Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge page. Shortcut behavior and labels may differ by operating system or Edge version. If Ctrl+Shift+S does not open Screenshot, find Screenshot in Edge’s browser menu and choose Capture full page there.
iPhone Safari: choose “Full Page” after taking the screenshot
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot with the iPhone’s hardware buttons.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail when it appears.
- At the top of the preview, tap Full Page.
- Inspect the page preview, crop if necessary, and follow the save or share controls.
Apple’s instructions at Take a screenshot on iPhone use an entire Safari webpage as the full-page example. If the Full Page tab is not offered, the current app or page may not support that capture mode; the ordinary screenshot will contain only the visible screen.
What to do when the result is incomplete
The file stops at the screen boundary
You probably used the operating system’s ordinary screenshot shortcut. Repeat the capture with the browser’s dedicated command: Firefox Save full page, Chrome Capture a full size screenshot, Edge Capture full page, or iPhone’s Full Page preview.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesImages or text are missing lower down
Let the page finish loading before capturing. For pages that load images only when they approach the viewport, scroll through the page once, pause while each section appears, return to the top and capture again. This is practical advice rather than a guarantee: each browser handles lazy loading differently.
The page changes while it is being captured
Live feeds, advertisements, rotating banners and other changing content can produce a result that differs from what you first saw. Wait for the state you want, dismiss overlays, and check the saved image from top to bottom. Keep the URL and capture time with the file when you need an auditable record.
An infinite-scroll page never has a real bottom
A full-page command can only capture content the page exposes as it renders. Infinite feeds, continuously appended comments and virtualized lists may not have a finite document height. Capture a defined range, use the site’s export function, or save a PDF/document when the goal is archival text rather than a visual image.

A nested panel or internal scroll area is absent
Some pages scroll inside a panel while the outer document remains short. A browser full-page command primarily follows the document’s page layout; it does not promise to expand every independently scrolling region. Capture the panel separately, use its own export control, or use an automated tool that can target an element by CSS selector.

Browser capture uses the session already open in that browser. Sign in first and verify that private content is visible. Do not share a capture that contains credentials, personal data or private URLs.
Quality checks before you share a long capture
- Open the saved file and inspect the top, middle and very bottom.
- Check that navigation bars or cookie dialogs did not cover important content.
- Confirm that delayed images, charts and fonts finished rendering.
- Look for duplicated, missing or clipped sections around dynamic components.
- Use a meaningful filename containing the page name and capture date.
- If a static record matters more than pixels, consider a PDF or the site’s own export feature.
Or skip the browser setup
For automated website screenshots, ScreenshotNeo is the first service to try when you want clean captures: it accepts cookie and consent banners before capture, removes more than 60 known consent platforms plus newsletter popups and chat widgets, and bills only clean shots.
Its GET endpoint returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. The response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers, so you can see whether a page was clean and whether it was billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing.

r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });

const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
Options for long or difficult pages
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, a CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or any viewport, retina scale, image resizing and transparent backgrounds. You can wait for a selector, a fixed delay or network idle; click an element before capture; inject custom CSS or JavaScript; hide selectors; and block ads, trackers, requests or resource types.

FAQ
Does a full-page screenshot include the browser’s address bar?
No. These commands capture the webpage content rendered by the browser, not browser chrome such as tabs, the address bar or the desktop.
Is Chrome Device mode the same as testing on a phone?
No. Google describes Device mode as an approximation of a mobile device. Use a physical phone when the capture must represent that device’s exact rendering.
