You can stop Paramount+ or Max from renewing without choosing to delete your streaming account. First identify who bills you, then cancel through that provider and keep the account itself. Paramount+ specifically warns that account deletion removes My List; Max documents profile-specific lists and says an existing account can retain its list when you resubscribe, but neither service’s guidance reviewed here guarantees indefinite watchlist retention after every cancellation.
Before canceling, find who bills the subscription
Cancellation must go through the company that manages the subscription. Check the subscription or billing details in the streaming account first. If the biller is a third party, use that provider’s subscription settings or cancellation process instead of canceling only inside the streaming app. Paramount+ and Max both document provider-dependent cancellation routes: Paramount+ cancellation instructions and the Max Help Center cancellation guide.

- If the account page does not make the biller clear, check the relevant app-store, retailer, or provider subscription settings and your billing statement.
- After canceling, save the confirmation and note the end date shown by the biller.
- Do not assume removing the app stops renewal. Max explicitly says, “Deleting the Max app does not cancel your subscription.”
How to cancel Paramount+ and keep the account
If Paramount+ bills you directly
Use the Paramount+ account page to manage or cancel the subscription. Paramount’s U.S. Terms of Use say subscribers can continue using the subscription until cancellation takes effect, which ordinarily means through the current billing period. If another provider bills you
Cancel with that provider. Paramount+ lists separate routes for subscriptions started on its website, smart TVs or game consoles, Apple, Android, Fire TV, Roku, Prime Video Channels, and Apple TV Channels. The exact steps depend on where you subscribed, so follow the matching route in the official Paramount+ cancellation guide.

Do not delete the Paramount+ account
Canceling the subscription and deleting the account are different actions. Paramount+ says deletion permanently removes account-associated profiles and viewing preferences, including movies and shows saved to My List. Deletion also cuts off access immediately, even if paid subscription time remains, and Paramount+ says that unused period is not refunded. How to cancel Max (formerly HBO Max)
Check the subscription provider
Look at the subscription details in the Max account or at max.com/subscription. If a provider other than Max bills you, use that provider’s cancellation workflow. Max lists routes including Apple, Google Play, Roku, Samsung, selected Amazon billing options, and internet, mobile, or TV providers. Cancel before the next billing date
Max subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. Max advises canceling before the next billing date to avoid another charge. After cancellation, access generally continues through the end of the paid billing period for Max-billed subscriptions and the third-party billing routes covered in its guide. Check the confirmation and end date from the biller rather than assuming access ends immediately.

Max says each profile has its own My List, and saved titles remain there until removed or no longer available on Max. If titles seem to have disappeared while you can still access the account, switch to the profile where they were saved. What happens to watchlists if you subscribe again?
Max’s resubscription guidance says that people who previously had Max or HBO Max can use their existing account to resubscribe and retain profiles, My List, and playback history. That supports signing back into the same account if you return; it does not spell out a retention period or guarantee every account’s data through every cancellation state. The official Paramount+ materials cited here explain that deletion removes My List, but do not expressly guarantee that My List survives ordinary cancellation and a later return. Keep the account rather than deleting it, and do not treat cancellation alone as a confirmed promise of indefinite list retention.
