To stop a streaming subscription from renewing in Canada, first find out which company bills you, then cancel through that company. Check your account’s billing details and latest receipt: if you pay the streaming service directly, use its account settings; if an app store or another provider bills you, use that provider’s cancellation process. Before confirming, note when access ends, whether a refund is available, and—if you pause—the date billing restarts.
Find out who bills your subscription
Start with the streaming account’s billing or subscription page and the latest payment receipt. A card statement can also help identify the company charging you. The service you watch is not necessarily the company that manages your subscription: payment may go through an app store or another third party.

This distinction determines where to cancel. For Disney+, for example, the Canadian subscriber agreement directs direct-billed customers to Disney+’s cancellation page and customers billed by a third party, such as an app store or Amazon Store, to that third party’s cancellation instructions. - Identify the billing provider. Check the subscription or payment details in your streaming account and compare them with your receipt or card statement.
- Open that provider’s cancellation instructions. If the streaming service bills you directly, use its account page. If another company bills you, follow that company’s cancellation process rather than relying on a cancel option in the streaming app.
- Review the confirmation screen before you submit. Note the next renewal date, when access will end, and any stated refund terms.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the confirmation email or a screenshot, then check the account for a cancelled status or a scheduled pause restart.
The exact menu labels and steps depend on the service and billing route. Current button-by-button instructions for every streaming provider and intermediary are not established here; use the relevant provider’s own help page rather than assuming all services work alike.

Decide whether to cancel or pause

Pause availability and conditions are provider-specific. Disney+ says it may offer a pause; it does not promise that every account or plan can use one. Its agreement says billing resumes automatically at the end of a pause unless the subscriber cancels before then. See the Disney+ pause terms.
Check access and refund terms before cancelling
Cancellation does not always mean immediate loss of access. Disney+ says cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current billing period, promotional period, or commitment period, unless otherwise disclosed. Its agreement generally does not refund a partially used period unless required by law, though it allows case-by-case refunds or credits. For another service, check its terms and the cancellation screen for the date access ends and whether any refund applies. Do not assume that cancelling today produces a prorated refund or ends access immediately.
Keep track of renewal dates and confirmations
The Government of Canada’s Office of Consumer Affairs recommends checking automatic renewals and cancellation dates in contracts, since missing a date can lead to additional charges. Its contracts guidance also points consumers to their provincial or territorial consumer protection office for applicable contract rules. Save the cancellation confirmation and check the account afterward to make sure it reflects the change you requested.

Canadian refund and cooling-off rights depend on the situation
There is no basis here for promising one Canada-wide cooling-off period or refund right for every standalone streaming subscription. The Office of Consumer Affairs says provincial or territorial consumer protection offices have jurisdiction over contract law, and that cooling-off periods cover certain contract types in some jurisdictions. For advice on your circumstances, consult your local consumer affairs office or the relevant provincial or territorial rules.
CRTC rules for regulated Internet and television services should not be treated as a blanket cancellation rule for a standalone video-streaming subscription. Those are distinct services with distinct regulatory scope; see the CRTC guidance.
