Cancel your Costco membership
Costco’s U.S. cancellation guidance, published July 24, 2025, lists two ways to request cancellation. The primary member should make the request.

Downgrade your membership
Costco directs members seeking a downgrade to a local warehouse membership desk or Member Services by phone. Its current live-chat guidance, published August 17, 2026, says transaction-required membership changes such as downgrades cannot be completed through Costco.com or live chat.

- Tell the representative which membership level you want and ask them to process the downgrade.
- If you have an Executive membership, ask how the current upgrade fee and any issued or accrued 2% Reward affect your specific refund.
What Executive members should clarify
Costco’s indexed help result says an Executive member must cancel or downgrade to Gold Star or Business to receive a refund of the current upgrade fee. It also says rewards may be subtracted from that refund and forfeited to the extent they exceed it. The result does not establish an individual member’s refund amount, and its underlying FAQ date was not shown. Ask Member Services to calculate how the rule applies to your account before you proceed.
