Find out who bills your ChatGPT subscription
Cancellation has to be completed where the subscription is managed. Check your payment receipt or billing statement if you are unsure whether you subscribed on the web, through Apple, or through Google Play. A web purchase will not appear in either app store’s subscription list. OpenAI’s cancellation guidance covers personal ChatGPT subscriptions and self-service Business plans, not Enterprise or Edu plans. OpenAI’s cancellation instructions explain the available routes.

Cancel through the platform that billed you
ChatGPT subscription purchased on the web
- Sign in to ChatGPT using the account that made the purchase.
- Open the account menu and select Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Under Cancel plan, select Cancel and complete the confirmation steps.
Subscription purchased through Apple
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then choose ChatGPT.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If you do not see a cancel option and an expiration date is displayed, the subscription may already be canceled. Verify its status in the same Apple account that made the purchase.

- Sign in to the Google account used to subscribe.
- In the Play Store app, open Subscriptions and select ChatGPT.
- Select Cancel subscription and follow the confirmation prompts.
You can also use the Google Play website: open Subscriptions, select Manage for ChatGPT, then choose Cancel subscription. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm.

Self-service ChatGPT Business plan
- Sign in to ChatGPT and open the account menu.
- Select Workspace settings, then Billing.
- Choose Manage plan and select Cancel subscription.
If you cannot access the workspace’s billing settings, ask the workspace owner to cancel or help you get access. These instructions do not cover Enterprise or Edu plans. See OpenAI’s ChatGPT Business billing guidance.
Know when cancellation takes effect
OpenAI advises canceling at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next subscription charge. With an ordinary cancellation, paid features remain available until the end of the current billing period; cancellation stops future renewals but does not automatically refund earlier charges. OpenAI’s cancellation article gives these timing instructions.

Canceling and requesting a refund are separate actions, and cancellation alone does not establish refund eligibility. For an Apple-billed subscription, submit a refund request to Apple. For a web or Google Play purchase, OpenAI directs subscribers to contact OpenAI Support. The available route depends on the purchase platform and location. See OpenAI’s refund guidance.
Fix common cancellation problems
The subscription is missing from Apple or Google Play
First check the purchase receipt to identify the billing platform. A subscription purchased on the web will not show in the Apple or Google Play subscription lists. If the receipt shows an app-store purchase, make sure your device is signed in to the Apple or Google account used to subscribe. For web billing, sign in to the ChatGPT account used at purchase.
You uninstalled the ChatGPT app
Uninstalling the app does not cancel an Apple- or Google Play-managed subscription. Use the relevant store’s subscription settings instead. OpenAI states: “Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel your subscription.” OpenAI’s Android cancellation guidance.
You deleted your ChatGPT account
Deleting the account cancels subscriptions billed directly by ChatGPT, but it does not cancel an Apple App Store subscription. Check Google Play as well and cancel there if the plan is still active. OpenAI’s cancellation guidance describes these distinctions.
You may have more than one active subscription
Check ChatGPT web billing, Apple Subscriptions, and Google Play Subscriptions. OpenAI says subscriptions on multiple platforms can create multiple active subscriptions and charges. Cancel each unwanted subscription on the platform that manages it; before subscribing on a different platform, cancel the existing plan. OpenAI’s duplicate-charge guidance.
You cannot access the email address on the account
If ChatGPT bills you directly, contact OpenAI Support. OpenAI’s cancellation guidance asks for the account email, the payment card’s last four digits, and the date of the latest subscription payment.
