If your PS5 character or camera moves while you leave the sticks untouched, first check whether the input is really drifting, then reset and update the controller. Sony documents no stick-calibration menu for the standard DualSense. Its DualSense Edge has profile controls for stick sensitivity and deadzones, which can change how small inputs register but cannot repair worn hardware.
Check whether the controller is actually drifting
Start by checking whether the problem occurs beyond one game. Try another game or the PS5 menus, and inspect the affected game’s control settings. If unwanted movement appears only in one game, its settings or behavior may be the cause rather than a controller-wide problem.

For a more direct check, PS Clinic offers a browser-based controller tester that supports DualSense. It requires a desktop browser with WebHID support, such as Chrome or Edge on a PC or Mac; phones and tablets are not supported. With the controller connected, observe the stick reading while it is untouched, then move the stick through its range. A reading that moves while the stick is at rest can help identify unwanted input, but the tester does not provide a universal threshold for diagnosing drift.
PS Clinic is an independent utility, not an official PlayStation tool. Its calibration controls are not a guaranteed repair: the site warns that calibration cannot fix worn stick components and may make drift worse if used without replacing the worn hardware. Treat it as an optional diagnostic or, where appropriate, a post-repair calibration tool—not a first step for fixing drift.

Reset and reconnect the DualSense
PlayStation’s first troubleshooting step is to reset the controller. The reset clears the controller connection; it is not a stick-calibration procedure.
- Turn off the PS5 and disconnect the controller from its USB cable.
- Find the small reset hole on the back of the controller, next to the Sony logo.
- Use a pin or similar tool to press and hold the reset button for at least five seconds.
- Reconnect the controller to the PS5 using the official USB cable, then press the PS button.
See PlayStation’s DualSense troubleshooting instructions for the official reset guidance.

- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Update the controller software
PlayStation says DualSense device software updates are included with PS5 system software updates. To check for a controller update manually, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. You can also update the controller with PlayStation Accessories on a Windows PC. Menu wording may change, so consult PlayStation’s Controllers Support page if the path differs on your console.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsKnow what deadzone settings can—and cannot—do
A deadzone is the range around a stick’s center in which small movements are ignored. Increasing it can reduce the effect of slight center readings in a game, but it changes input behavior; it does not restore worn components.

Standard DualSense
PlayStation’s published controller guidance does not document a user-facing stick-sensitivity or deadzone setting for the standard DualSense. Do not mistake a game’s own deadzone option for a PS5 system-wide calibration setting.
DualSense Edge
For DualSense Edge profiles, PlayStation documents these controls at Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles > Stick Sensitivity/Deadzone. You can use a profile adjustment to change how the sticks respond, but it is a workaround for input behavior, not a hardware repair. See PlayStation’s controller support guidance for Edge customization information.

When persistent drift points to a hardware repair
If unwanted input continues after resetting and updating, a hardware problem becomes more likely, though those steps alone cannot diagnose a particular controller. Joystick resistive tracks can wear over time; replacing the joystick is the remedy described for worn tracks in iFixit’s PS5 controller stick-drift troubleshooting guide.
Replacing a stick in a standard DualSense is a difficult repair that requires soldering. If you do not have the right tools and experience, consider PlayStation Repairs or a qualified repair provider. Before attempting or paying for a repair, check whether your controller is eligible for service or still covered by warranty.

Choose the right next step
| Option | Best suited to | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Reset and update | Unexpected or possibly software-related behavior | Officially documented first troubleshooting steps; do not calibrate the stick. |
| Adjust a deadzone | Small center readings on a DualSense Edge profile, or a game with its own deadzone setting | Can reduce the effect of small inputs, but does not repair worn hardware. |
| Replace or repair the joystick | Drift that persists after troubleshooting and is consistent with worn hardware | Addresses the underlying worn component; standard DualSense replacement requires soldering. |
