To run CloudPanel, rent a fresh virtual server that offers a supported Linux image, x86 or ARM64 architecture, SSH access, and root or sudo privileges. CloudPanel lists a minimum of one CPU core, 2 GB of RAM, and 10 GB of disk; these are installation requirements, not a guarantee that the server will suit your sites. Choose and provision the server, then install CloudPanel using its current checksum-verified instructions. Buying the server and installing the panel are separate steps—do not assume a provider includes CloudPanel preinstalled unless its specific listing says so.
What to buy for CloudPanel
Look for a VPS or cloud server that meets CloudPanel’s documented requirements and gives you administrative access. CloudPanel describes itself as “a free and modern server control panel to configure and manage a server with an obsessive focus on simplicity” in its official documentation.

- Operating system: CloudPanel currently lists Ubuntu 26.04, 24.04, and 22.04, plus Debian 13 and 12. Check that the provider offers your chosen release as a server image.
- Architecture: x86 and ARM64 are listed as supported. Confirm the architecture of the specific plan and image.
- Minimum resources: one CPU core, 2 GB RAM, and 10 GB disk. CloudPanel’s provider examples also call for at least one vCPU and 2 GB RAM. These are minimums; they do not establish capacity for a particular workload.
- Access and condition: plan for SSH and root access (or the documented equivalent), and start with an empty server. The installer is not intended to be layered onto an already configured hosting environment.
For production, choose headroom for your sites, databases, caching, backups, and visitor traffic. No workload benchmark is established by the minimum specification, so size the server against your own expected use and upgrade options.
How to compare server providers and plans
CloudPanel’s getting-started documentation provides setup routes for AWS, DigitalOcean, Donweb Cloud, Hetzner Cloud, Hostinger, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud, Vultr, and other servers. These guides show installation paths; they are not an independent ranking of provider cost, reliability, or performance.
#1 Best Overall
- Wide Compatibility & Versatile Use: ZOERAX M6 rack mount screw kit is ideal for installing server racks, network cabinets, rack shelves, patch panels, A/V equipment, and more. Designed for standard square-hole racks and cabinets, these M6 cage nuts and screws ensure a secure fit for most 19-inch rack systems used in data centers, offices, and home labs
- Heavy-Duty Carbon Steel Construction: Made from premium carbon steel, these M6 cage nuts and screws deliver high strength and long-lasting durability. The material provides excellent resistance to rust, corrosion, and oxidation, performing reliably in demanding environments such as high humidity, temperature fluctuations, and long-term rack installations
- Precision Metric Standard M6: Manufactured to strict metric standards, each M6 screw and cage nut features precise dimensions with minimal tolerance. Clean, sharp threads without burrs allow smooth installation without stripping or slipping. The deep Phillips head design ensures better torque control and faster, more efficient mounting
- Safe, Reliable & Eco-Conscious Materials: ZOERAX uses non-toxic, environmentally friendly carbon steel materials to ensure safe handling and use. Heat-treated for optimal hardness, ductility, and impact resistance, these rack screws and cage nuts offer dependable performance while meeting safety and quality expectations for professional installations
- Complete Mounting Kit with Washers: This essential M6 rack hardware kit includes screws, cage nuts, and heavy-duty washers. The included washers help distribute pressure evenly and reduce scratches or marks on rack rails and equipment, providing a cleaner, more secure installation right out of the box
Compare candidate offers on the characteristics that affect your site and operating costs:
- Supported OS image and CPU architecture.
- CPU type and allocation—shared or dedicated—plus vCPU count, RAM, and storage type and capacity.
- Data-center region relative to your visitors.
- Included data transfer, backup or snapshot options, firewall controls, and support.
- Total recurring cost, including optional storage, backups, data transfer, and applicable taxes.
CloudPanel’s Hetzner guide and Vultr guide illustrate the practical choices: region, supported operating-system image, server size or type, and SSH key. The Hetzner guide recommends at least one vCPU and 2 GB RAM; Vultr’s guide covers both shared-CPU and dedicated-CPU plans. A provider’s use of “dedicated” should be read in the context of its exact plan description, not assumed to mean a dedicated physical server.
DigitalOcean describes Droplets as VPS virtual machines with shared-CPU and dedicated-CPU options. Its public VPS page listed shared-CPU plans starting at $4 per month when reviewed on October 5, 2026. This is a volatile starting price, not a like-for-like comparison: check current resources, region, add-ons, and checkout pricing before choosing.

- Choose and create a fresh server. Select a supported Linux image and compatible architecture, set the region and server size, and add an SSH key if the provider offers that option. Save the assigned IP address and connection details.
- Connect and prepare the system. Use SSH with root or the provider’s administrative account. Update the system and install the utilities required by CloudPanel’s current installation instructions.
- Verify the installer before running it. Open the current CloudPanel installation documentation, download the installer as directed, and verify its checksum using the exact current value and command on that page. The checksum and commands can change, so do not rely on a copied command from an older guide.
- Choose a supported database engine and complete setup. Follow the live installation guide for the available database choices and finish the installer on the clean server.
- Secure access and configure the panel. Create the administrator account promptly and set firewall rules. CloudPanel’s provider guidance recommends limiting access to the admin interface on port 8443 to your own IP where practical.
- Set up your site. Add the site and domain, point DNS to the server, configure TLS, and plan how you will manage backups and system updates. Consult current CloudPanel documentation for the exact procedures.
What CloudPanel costs—and what the server costs
CloudPanel’s pricing page describes Community Edition as free to use. That does not make the server free: the infrastructure provider charges separately for the virtual machine and any add-ons. At the time of review, the page marked its Premium and Enterprise support tiers “Coming soon”; availability can change.
CloudPanel also advertises a separate Managed Hosting service on a customer’s AWS account, with management, backups, scaling, security, and migration described on its managed hosting page. The service has paid monthly plans, and AWS infrastructure is billed separately. Check current prices, terms, and service limits before deciding. This is an option for people who want server operations managed, rather than simply renting an unmanaged VPS and administering it themselves.
