Yes, you can build a WordPress-powered website with Lovable in 2026, but the reliable architecture is headless: Lovable creates the React/TypeScript interface and workflows, while WordPress stores and manages your content. Lovable’s WordPress connectors communicate through the WordPress REST API; they do not replace WordPress hosting, administration, plugins, SSL, or site settings.
Antihost offers managed WordPress hosting with free migration, one-click staging and a 14-day free trial.
Choose the connector that matches your WordPress installation, secure the connection with an Application Password when using self-hosted WordPress, then publish the Lovable front end on Lovable Cloud or an external deployment platform. The steps below cover setup, domain configuration, security, deployment choices, and the limits you need to plan for.

What the Lovable–WordPress architecture actually is
A Lovable project can serve as the public presentation layer for a WordPress site. Editors continue using the WordPress dashboard to write posts, upload media, assign categories and tags, and maintain pages. The Lovable application requests that data through the WordPress REST API and renders it in a custom React/TypeScript interface.
This is a headless WordPress arrangement. WordPress remains the content management system (CMS), but its conventional theme output is not the only public interface. Lovable supplies the interface, navigation, forms, dashboards, and other workflows you design.

What the official self-hosted connector can handle
Lovable documents the self-hosted connector as an app-and-chat connection that can read and manage:
- Posts and pages
- Media
- Users, subject to the connected account’s permissions
- Custom post types
- Categories and tags
That makes the pattern suitable for marketing sites, blogs, help centers, media browsers, directory or listing pages, event pages, dashboards, and forms that create draft posts. The connector works in the project chat while you build and in the published app.

What it does not do
The connection does not turn Lovable into a WordPress hosting control panel. It cannot change WordPress roles, configure your web server, set up WordPress SSL, alter hosting settings, bypass the permissions of the connected user, or provide a separate WordPress login for every visitor to your Lovable app. Those responsibilities remain with WordPress and its host.
If your project needs products, orders, or customer records in WooCommerce, use the WooCommerce connector rather than assuming generic WordPress routes cover those objects.
Choose WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress first
The two connector paths are separate. Decide where WordPress runs before you create credentials; do not use WordPress.com account credentials in the self-hosted connector or vice versa.
| Decision | WordPress.com | Self-hosted WordPress |
|---|---|---|
| Where WordPress runs | WordPress.com infrastructure | A host you or your organization operate |
| Lovable connection | The WordPress.com connector, using its account and site scope | The WordPress (self-hosted) connector, using the site’s REST API |
| Credentials | WordPress.com authorization and the scopes it grants | Site URL, WordPress username, and an Application Password |
| Operational owner | WordPress.com controls the underlying hosting service | You control hosting, plugins, SSL, backups, and WordPress settings |
| Best fit | A site already managed in WordPress.com | Teams requiring host, plugin, data, or server control |
The rest of this guide focuses on self-hosted WordPress because it requires the most preparation. If you use WordPress.com, select its dedicated connector and follow the authorization and scope prompts shown in Lovable.

- WordPress 5.6 or newer.
- HTTPS enabled. Use an HTTPS site URL for the REST connection.
- Non-plain permalinks enabled. In WordPress, choose a permalink structure other than the plain query-string format.
- A dedicated, least-privilege user. Give the account only the capabilities your application needs.
- An Application Password. WordPress displays the generated value once, so copy it into a secure password manager immediately.
Confirm that the site’s REST API is reachable from the internet or from the network where your published app runs. A REST endpoint that works only on a private office network will not be usable by a publicly hosted Lovable front end.
Create a narrowly scoped WordPress account
- In the WordPress dashboard, create a user dedicated to the Lovable integration rather than reusing a personal administrator account.
- Assign the lowest role that supports the operations you intend to expose. A read-only presentation site needs less access than an app that creates draft posts or uploads media.
- Open that user’s profile and generate an Application Password.
- Copy the generated password when WordPress shows it. It is not presented again in full after you leave the screen.
Use different users and passwords for staging and production. If a credential must be revoked, create a replacement Application Password, update the connection, and remove the old one.
Connect Lovable to self-hosted WordPress
- Open your Lovable project and go to Connectors.
- Choose the connector labeled for WordPress (self-hosted). Do not select the WordPress.com connector for a site that you operate on your own host.
- Enter the WordPress site URL, or the REST discovery URL if Lovable’s dialog requests that form.
- Enter the dedicated WordPress username.
- Paste the Application Password, not the user’s normal dashboard password.
- Submit the connection. Lovable verifies the credentials against the WordPress REST API.
If verification succeeds, the connection is shared by the project chat during development and by the published application. Keep the credential out of browser-visible source, screenshots, prompts, and public repositories.
Connect WordPress.com instead
For a WordPress.com-hosted site, open Connectors, choose the WordPress.com option, and complete the account authorization and site-scope prompts. Its credentials and authorization flow are not interchangeable with the self-hosted Application Password flow.
Plan the content model before asking Lovable to build screens
A headless build is easier to maintain when the content model is explicit. Write down which WordPress objects drive each screen and what the visitor should see when data is missing.
Map content to routes
- Posts: chronological articles, news, or updates.
- Pages: relatively stable items such as About, Contact, or policy content.
- Categories and tags: archive filters and topic navigation.
- Media: featured images, galleries, downloads, and author assets.
- Custom post types: events, listings, courses, case studies, or other domain objects.
For each route, specify the fields Lovable should request, the URL pattern, pagination behavior, and whether the page is public or requires an authenticated workflow. Ask Lovable to use the existing WordPress field names rather than inventing a parallel data store unless you deliberately need one.
Design all data states
Do not specify only the successful response. Include loading, empty, error, and permission-denied states in the build request. A category with no posts should produce a useful empty message, not a blank layout. A failed media request should show a fallback image or text alternative. A draft-creation form should tell the editor whether the draft was accepted, rejected, or blocked by permissions.

Keep editorial work in WordPress
Editors should continue to preview and revise content in WordPress. Lovable controls how that content is presented, searched, filtered, or combined with application workflows. This separation lets a content team work in a familiar dashboard while developers iterate on the interface without changing the editorial process.
Build the Lovable front end
Describe the application in terms of routes, data, and user actions. A useful build request identifies the WordPress objects to load, the fields to display, and the behavior for each state.
A practical build sequence
- Start with a read-only slice. Build one route that loads a small set of posts and their featured media. Verify the connection before adding forms or administrative actions.
- Add navigation and archives. Implement category and tag views, post detail routes, and pagination only after the basic response shape is rendering correctly.
- Add pages and custom post types. Introduce one content type at a time so a malformed response is easy to isolate.
- Add write workflows last. For example, create a form that submits a draft post, then test it with the dedicated account’s actual permissions.
- Specify failure handling. Ask for visible loading indicators, empty-state copy, retry controls, permission messages, and safe handling of missing images.
Because the public app and WordPress dashboard are separate systems, test the complete editorial loop: publish or update an item in WordPress, refresh the Lovable route, check media and taxonomy output, and confirm that the interface reflects the change you expect.
Do not expose credentials in client code
A browser-delivered React bundle is public. Never place an Application Password in a component, environment value that is shipped to the browser, URL, or client-side request that visitors can inspect. The WordPress credential must remain in the protected connection used by Lovable or in a server-side service you control.
Choose where to host the Lovable application
Lovable gives each project a lovable.app URL. Custom domains are available on paid plans. For more control, synchronize or export the project through GitHub and deploy it on an external platform.
| Hosting path | What you get | What you must manage | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable Cloud | One-click publishing, a lovable.app address, and Lovable-managed backend services; custom domains on paid plans | Lovable project settings, domain records, and your WordPress operation | You want the shortest route from build to a public site |
| GitHub plus Vercel or Netlify | A familiar external deployment workflow and custom build controls | GitHub integration, build settings, environment configuration, and backend services that are not automatically supplied by Lovable | Your team already operates a Git-based release process |
| GitHub plus Railway or another host | Deployment outside Lovable with platform-specific infrastructure choices | The selected host, backend services, secrets, monitoring, and releases | You need hosting features not offered by the default path |
| Customer-owned cloud infrastructure | Maximum control over network, data location, and governance | Infrastructure, deployment automation, security, scaling, backups, and operations | Governance or private-infrastructure requirements justify the additional setup |
| Deploy on AWS | Private-preview deployment for select Enterprise customers, announced October 14, 2026 | Preview availability and any feature differences from Lovable hosting | Your organization is eligible and accepts preview limitations |
Lovable’s publishing guidance describes external platforms as requiring GitHub plus separately configured backend services. Exporting the front end does not transfer responsibility for your WordPress server, database, plugins, backups, or SSL.
When Lovable Cloud is the sensible default
Use Lovable Cloud when speed and minimal infrastructure work matter more than owning every deployment detail. You receive a project URL and can connect a custom domain without assembling a separate build pipeline. You still remain responsible for the WordPress installation and its content operations.

When an external deployment is worth it
Use GitHub synchronization or export when you need controlled branches, custom build commands, a separate development environment, or infrastructure managed by an existing engineering team. Plan the backend separately; moving the React interface does not automatically move APIs, secrets, scheduled tasks, or WordPress.
Understand the AWS announcement’s scope
Lovable announced “Deploy on AWS” on October 14, 2026. The announcement describes it as a private preview for select Enterprise customers and notes that some features available on Lovable hosting are not yet at full feature parity. Treat it as an eligibility-based preview, not a generally available replacement for Lovable Cloud.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Connect a custom domain, DNS, and SSL
Lovable’s documented domain flow works for a domain purchased elsewhere and supports both root domains and subdomains.
- Open Project → Settings → Domains in Lovable.
- Add the domain or subdomain you want to use.
- Complete the ownership verification step shown by Lovable.
- At your DNS provider, add the A and TXT records Lovable supplies. Enter the values exactly as displayed.
- Check for existing AAAA records. Lovable warns that an old or conflicting AAAA record can interfere with routing; remove or correct it only when you have confirmed it belongs to the previous configuration.
- Wait for DNS propagation. Lovable states that changes can take up to 72 hours, although many updates complete sooner.
- After verification, select the connected domain you want to be primary. One connected domain can be primary.
Lovable automatically generates and installs the SSL certificate for a connected domain. You do not need to manually request a certificate from a separate certificate authority for this Lovable-hosted front end.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAfter the domain goes live
- Run Lovable’s SEO review and correct title, description, heading, canonical, and indexing issues it identifies.
- Verify the domain in Google Search Console.
- Submit the generated sitemap in Search Console.
- Test the root domain and every configured subdomain over HTTPS, including a representative post, page, media asset, and form.
Security and ongoing operations
Protect the Application Password
WordPress treats an Application Password as a password. Store it in a password manager or protected secret store, limit access to the people who maintain the integration, and never commit it to GitHub. If exposure is suspected, create a new Application Password, update Lovable, test the connection, and revoke the old credential.
Use least privilege and separate environments
Give production and staging their own WordPress users and connections. A public blog reader should not use a credential that can edit users or publish content. A draft-submission workflow should have only the capabilities it needs. Test each action with the real role instead of assuming a successful read request proves that writes will work.
Plan for changes outside Lovable
WordPress updates, permalink changes, plugin configuration, SSL renewals on the WordPress host, and hosting migrations can all affect the REST API. Record the site URL, connector type, WordPress version, account owner, and recovery contact so another maintainer can restore the integration.
Best Value
Separate WooCommerce data
Products, orders, and customers are commerce objects with different access and privacy implications. Use the WooCommerce connector for those operations. Do not grant a general WordPress integration broader privileges simply because a commerce route is missing.

How to choose the right setup for your project
Simple public site
For a brochure site or small blog, use WordPress as the editor, connect the appropriate connector, build read-only routes first, and publish on Lovable Cloud. Add a custom domain after the content and navigation are stable.
Editorial site with multiple content types
Use a dedicated least-privilege integration account, separate staging and production sites, and document the mapping between each custom post type and its Lovable route. Test taxonomy archives, media, empty states, and editorial updates before launch.
Application with write workflows
Keep write operations narrow and explicit. A form that creates draft posts should use a credential permitted to create drafts, not a full administrator account. Validate permissions, error handling, and audit expectations in staging before exposing the workflow publicly.
Enterprise or regulated workload
Evaluate where the front end, backend services, and WordPress data are hosted. An external or customer-owned deployment may provide the governance controls you need, but it also makes your team responsible for build pipelines, secrets, monitoring, backups, and incident response. The AWS deployment announced on October 14, 2026 remains a private preview for select Enterprise customers, so confirm eligibility and feature parity before making it a production dependency.

- WordPress.com versus self-hosted has been decided, and the matching Lovable connector is selected.
- Self-hosted WordPress is version 5.6 or newer, uses HTTPS, and has non-plain permalinks.
- A dedicated WordPress user and Application Password are stored securely.
- Staging and production use separate connections.
- Posts, pages, media, taxonomies, and custom post types required by the interface have been mapped.
- Loading, empty, error, and permission states are implemented.
- No Application Password appears in browser code, prompts, screenshots, or repositories.
- Hosting, backend services, and GitHub responsibilities are documented if the project is exported.
- Custom-domain A and TXT records are correct, conflicting AAAA records are checked, and DNS has propagated.
- HTTPS works, the domain is verified in Google Search Console, and the sitemap is submitted.
- Any WooCommerce functionality uses the WooCommerce connector.
Bottom line
Lovable is best used as the application layer over WordPress, not as a replacement for WordPress hosting. Connect the correct WordPress type, secure self-hosted access with a least-privilege Application Password, design the content and failure states deliberately, and choose hosting according to how much deployment and infrastructure control your team needs. Lovable Cloud is the lowest-effort publishing route; GitHub-based external hosting or customer-owned infrastructure provides more operational control but requires you to run more of the stack.
