Build the dashboard in Streamlit, use Plotly for interactive charts, and let GitHub Actions test repository changes. Then deploy the app from GitHub through a hosting provider such as Streamlit Community Cloud. These are separate jobs: GitHub Actions runs checks; the hosting service runs the live app.
What each part of the stack does
Streamlit is the Python framework for the app interface: it displays data, widgets, and results. Plotly creates chart objects, which Streamlit can render with st.plotly_chart. GitHub stores the project, while GitHub Actions automates checks when code changes. Hosting supplies the remote environment that runs the published app.

In practice, a user changes a Streamlit widget, the app uses that selection to prepare or filter data, and Plotly describes the resulting chart. Streamlit’s first-app tutorial covers data handling, charts, maps, and interactive widgets.

Build the app and add a Plotly chart
- Create an entrypoint. Start with a file such as
streamlit_app.py. Load or prepare the data and render a basic view before adding extra features. - Connect widgets to the data. Add controls for the choices users need, such as a date range or category. Use their selected values when preparing the data shown in the app.
- Create a Plotly figure. Build a Plotly
Figureor use a supportedDataobject, then display it withst.plotly_chart(figure). The Streamlit API reference specifies Plotly version 4.0.0 or later for this integration; manage the version in the project’s dependency file rather than relying on whatever happens to be installed locally. - Run the app locally. Confirm the entrypoint, widgets, data preparation, and chart work together before configuring deployment.
Declare dependencies and protect secrets
A hosted app runs in a remote environment, so packages installed only on a developer’s computer are not available there. Declare the app’s required packages in a dependency file, commonly a root-level requirements.txt, and include Plotly along with any other libraries the app imports. Streamlit Community Cloud provides Python and Streamlit, but the app must still declare its other dependencies. See Streamlit’s guidance on managing deployment dependencies.

- 15 Customizable LCD Keys: instantly control your apps, tools and platforms.
- One-Touch Operation: trigger single or multiple actions, launch social posts, adjust audio, mute mic, turn on lights, and much more.
- Visual Feedback: know that your command has been executed.
- Powerful Plugins: Elgato 4KCU, OBS, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Discord, Spotify, Philips Hue, and many more.
- Hotkey Actions: streamline your film editing, music production, photography workflow, etc.
Keep credentials and other private values out of source code and Git history. Configure them using the secret-management mechanism supported by the chosen host, and follow its current instructions. Streamlit describes dependency installation, secret handling, and starting the app remotely as core parts of deployment in its deployment concepts.
Run automated checks with GitHub Actions
Put workflow files in .github/workflows/. A useful workflow runs for pull requests and changes to the branch you intend to deploy, so it can catch problems before or while code is integrated. Streamlit’s documented example uses GitHub Actions to check out the repository, set up Python, and invoke streamlit/streamlit-app-action.

According to Streamlit’s CI testing guide, the app action installs pytest and dependencies from a root requirements.txt, runs app smoke tests for the specified app and additional pages, and runs Python tests found in the repository. If your project installs dependencies another way, add the corresponding installation step. Ruff linting is available as an option. Adapt the branches, Python version, and test command to match your repository.

Choose where to host the app
Streamlit’s deployment overview lists Community Cloud, Snowflake, and tutorials for other providers. It presents Community Cloud for non-commercial, personal, and educational apps, and describes Snowflake as enterprise-grade; those broad descriptions are not a substitute for checking the requirements of a particular project. Compare hosting options against these practical questions:
- Audience and use: Is the app personal, educational, public, or for business use?
- Access: Who needs to view the app, and what repository permissions or private-repository authorization does deployment require?
- Data and security: What credentials, sensitive data, or organizational controls are involved?
- Operations: How does the provider install dependencies, start and restart the app, expose logs, and apply changes?
- Cost and limits: Check each provider’s current pricing, quotas, and usage policies directly; comparable current figures are not established here.
For Community Cloud, connect a GitHub account, select the repository and app entrypoint, and deploy. The deploying account needs admin permissions on the repository; private repositories and organization-owned repositories may require additional authorization. Consult Streamlit’s instructions to connect your GitHub account before deployment.

Keep CI and live deployment distinct
A passing GitHub Actions run means the configured checks passed; it does not mean GitHub Actions is hosting the app. In the Community Cloud workflow, the hosting service connects to the repository and reflects pushes in the app. Dependency changes can trigger a full redeployment, which takes longer. After a change, check the live app itself: confirm it starts, its data source is reachable, its chart renders, and its configured secrets work. Streamlit explains repository updates and app management in its app management guide.
