To become an AWS Community Builder, build a public record of useful, technically accurate AWS knowledge sharing and community contribution, then apply when the 2027 application window opens. AWS says applications open in January 2027, but has not announced an exact opening day or closing deadline. It also says there is no single acceptance criterion, and places are limited—so strong preparation is not a guarantee of selection.
What AWS looks for in an application
AWS says applications are generally reviewed for evidence and accuracy of technical content. Its examples include blog posts, open-source contributions, presentations, online knowledge sharing, and organizing AWS Community Days, user groups, or other community events. AWS also says it welcomes builders from all regions and demographics, including underrepresented communities. AWS’s program announcement does not give a points system, required activity count, or acceptance formula.

In current-cycle guidance, AWS Developers emphasizes a track record of public technical content that helps other builders, including tutorials, videos, technical talks, and open-source work. The strongest preparation is therefore work that others can find, understand, and use—not a particular number of posts or a checklist of credentials. AWS Developers’ January 2027 application announcement describes the upcoming window and preparation focus.

- Choose a real AWS subject area. Focus on services or problems you have actually worked with, so you can explain decisions, limitations, and lessons accurately.
- Publish useful technical work over time. Create tutorials, troubleshooting guides, videos, or other explanations that help another builder complete a task or understand a problem. Link to the public work rather than merely describing it.
- Contribute to existing projects or discussions. Open-source contributions and helpful online answers can demonstrate how you support other builders. Make your role and contribution clear.
- Share knowledge in person or online. Give a technical talk or presentation, or help organize a user group, AWS Community Day, or another community event. Explain what you did and whom it served.
- Collect your work in a portfolio. Keep the links together and check that they are publicly accessible. AWS’s program announcement says publicly visible links are needed for evidence to count as valid; confirm the exact fields in the live application.
- Explain the value of each item. For each link, briefly state what you built or taught, who it helped, and what you learned. This makes the usefulness and technical accuracy of the work easier to assess; it is practical preparation, not a published scoring rubric.
When to apply for the 2027 program
AWS Developers says applications open in January 2027 and invites prospective applicants to join the waitlist for notification. The announcement gives neither an exact opening date nor a closing deadline. Check the official Community Builders page and join the waitlist as January approaches; rely on the live application for the actual dates and current requirements.
#1 Best Overall
AWS’s foundational announcement describes the program as open to builders worldwide. A localized AWS FAQ has stated an age minimum of 18, but it is not a current English-language 2027 rules page. Verify age and all other eligibility terms in the live application rather than treating older or localized information as definitive.
What membership offers—and what is not specified
AWS’s program announcement lists access to product teams and information about new services and features; mentorship from AWS subject-matter experts, including help with content creation, community building, and speaking; and AWS Promotional Credits and other resources for content creation and community work. The announcement does not state a credit amount.
Rank #2
An AWS Builder Center community article describes membership as lasting one year and potentially renewable annually, but that guidance was last modified in January 2025 and is not binding application policy. Check current program materials for membership duration, renewal, and expectations. AWS Builder Center’s program guide is useful context, not a substitute for current terms.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Community Builders and AWS Heroes are different
AWS Builder Center lists Community Builders as a program for people who share AWS knowledge and describes Heroes separately as recognized experts. The available official descriptions do not provide a full current comparison of their selection processes or requirements. Community Builder membership should not be treated as a guaranteed path to becoming an AWS Hero. AWS Builder Center’s community directory presents the programs separately.
Rank #3
Use AWS Builder Center as a place to participate
Builder Center lets builders discover articles, join communities and programs, connect with peers, find events, and access AWS Skill Builder courses. These are platform features, not additional benefits guaranteed to each Community Builder. AWS’s 2025 launch announcement says signing up with an AWS Builder ID does not require a credit card. AWS’s Builder Center announcement explains the platform.
