ToolJet MCP can help an AI coding agent create and edit a ToolJet app, but it does not supply outage data or coordinate emergency response. Use it to prototype a shared situational-awareness dashboard: connect authorized feeds, display each source’s age and status, and keep a human review step before changes affect a shared workspace.
What this dashboard can—and cannot—do
Think of a “control tower” as a configurable view of storm alerts, reported outages, and operational updates—not as a FEMA-defined system or a certified command platform. ToolJet MCP is an interface through which a compatible AI agent can work with an existing ToolJet workspace and its connected data. What the agent can do is bounded by the permissions of the personal access token (PAT) it uses. ToolJet’s MCP overview describes the integration and its capabilities.

The dashboard can help a team see what has been reported and what needs follow-up. It should not be treated as an authoritative dispatch system, a guarantee that every outage is represented, or proof that a field condition has been verified. The reviewed sources do not establish that a ToolJet app meets a particular emergency-services certification, uptime target, accessibility standard, or production dispatch requirement.

Before building screens, agree on the area of responsibility, incident period, and decisions the prototype is meant to support. For example: Which weather alerts apply to our area? Where have outages been reported? Which critical facilities need follow-up? What changed since the last update, and which information is stale or unverified?

FEMA’s outage annex describes multiple situational-awareness tools with different owners and availability, while FEMA’s NIMS/ICS materials provide incident-management context. They are useful design references, not a prescribed layout for a ToolJet app.
Connect ToolJet MCP with appropriate safeguards
Check the workspace and prerequisites
ToolJet’s documented MCP setup calls for a PAT created in the intended workspace, Node.js 20 or newer in the MCP client’s environment, and an MCP-compatible client. ToolJet says the setup can be used with cloud and self-hosted instances. Follow the current MCP setup instructions for the client you use, and confirm the instance URL and workspace before authorizing edits.
The PAT acts with its owner’s permissions. ToolJet also says platform activities can be associated with that owner in audit logs. Use credentials scoped to the work, and check your organization’s policies for handling tokens and connecting operational data.

Keep the first agent task read-only
ToolJet’s documentation lists 50 MCP tools as of its 2026 documentation, including tools for creating apps, inspecting and updating components, working with ToolJet DB tables, validating app specifications, and managing app permissions. The inventory is a product fact that can change; check the current MCP tool list before relying on a specific capability.
The list includes five tools that permanently delete data and require explicit confirmation. Avoid destructive actions in the initial build task. A cautious first prompt can ask the agent to inspect available components and data sources, scaffold pages, create read-only views, and validate the app structure. Review its proposed changes before connecting live feeds or modifying shared resources. This is a safeguard, not a claim that the app has been independently tested.
Choose weather and outage data deliberately
Weather alerts from the National Weather Service
The National Weather Service (NWS) alerts service provides watches, warnings, advisories, and similar products. Its documentation describes CAP v1.2, JSON-LD, and Atom pathways. NWS recommends following active CAP alerts through Atom indexes and fetching full messages when needed. See the NWS API documentation for available formats and use details.

For each alert, show its geographic scope, event, and severity or urgency when provided. Preserve the alert’s own issue, effective, and expiration times where available, and display a separate time for the dashboard’s last successful refresh. Keep the original alert language accessible; do not turn technical alert wording into an impact prediction the source does not make.
Outage information from an authorized source
There is no single universal outage feed established for every reader. Start with the relevant utility or authorized local source, then confirm its coverage, update delay, credentials, permitted use, fields, spatial resolution, ownership, and failure behavior with the data owner.
FEMA’s outage annex describes a mix of federal and other situational-awareness resources, including EIA electric-system operating data and tools with restricted or specific access. FEMA’s GIS documentation also describes power-status and health or medical impact layers. Availability and access depend on the source; do not assume a nationally described dataset is available to your organization or suitable for dispatch. If a layer uses a relative priority score, label it as a relative score—not as a count of customers without power. See FEMA’s power outage annex and GIS data documentation.

Plan refreshes around source behavior
NWS describes its API information as open data for any purpose, subject to reasonable rate limits. Its /alerts endpoint covers alerts issued over the previous seven days. That window is not a promise of a particular rate quota or uptime. Use a cache-aware refresh schedule rather than aggressive polling, and make refresh failures visible. Preserve both the event’s timestamp and the retrieval time so an old alert is not mistaken for a current one. Refer to the NWS API documentation when setting up the integration.
Organize the prototype around operational questions
ToolJet documents app, page, component, and query capabilities, but the layout below is a practical recommendation—not a prebuilt or field-tested control tower. Adapt it to your team’s geography, data permissions, and operating process.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSituation
- Incident name and period, operating area, and the time of the last successful data refresh.
- A concise count or summary of active alerts and reported outages, with each figure tied to its source and coverage.
- Notable changes since the previous operational update, with a clear indication of who entered or confirmed them.
Weather
- Active NWS alerts filtered to an agreed geography, such as county or zone.
- Event, scope, severity or urgency when present, and issue/effective/expiration timestamps.
- A link to the original alert or source details.
Outages and impacts
- Source-labeled outage observations and affected areas, with observation time and data-refresh time separated.
- Approved impact indicators only, with estimates or relative rankings labeled as such.
- Visible missing, stale, and unavailable states so an empty map is not mistaken for evidence that no outage exists.
Resources and priorities
- Show critical facilities or response resources only when a trusted source and an authorized workflow are available.
- Distinguish user-entered status from agency-confirmed status, and identify who owns each follow-up.
Update log
- Record the timestamp, source, change, and responsible user for operational edits.
- Keep source observations distinct from manual updates so readers can tell what was reported by a feed and what was entered by a person.
Make data quality visible on every page
Use a compact, consistent set of labels wherever data appears. A reader should be able to tell what the item represents, who supplied it, when it was observed or issued, when the dashboard last retrieved it, and whether anyone has verified it.
- Source: Name the feed, agency, utility, or person responsible for the information, and retain the original source link.
- Time: Show event or observation time separately from retrieval time; use explicit stale or refresh-failed states when appropriate.
- Status: Distinguish confirmed, reported, estimated, relative-priority, not verified, unavailable, and stale information instead of blending them together.
- Coverage: State the geography and scope of the feed. A blank area may mean the source has no coverage or has failed—not that there is no outage.
- Ownership: Make clear who maintains the feed and who is responsible for an operational follow-up.
Validate the prototype before operational use
Before a team relies on the view during an incident, confirm source access and permitted use with each data owner, then check that the interface communicates data age and failure rather than hiding them. The reviewed sources do not identify your utility, region, live outage endpoint, credential process, or local command structure; those details must be established locally.
Quick Recap
- Confirm the authorized source, geographic coverage, update cadence, timestamp meaning, and expected failure behavior for each feed.
- Test how the app presents stale data, a failed refresh, missing coverage, and unverified manual entries.
- Review MCP permissions and proposed changes with the workspace owner, especially before actions affecting shared resources.
- Keep the dashboard’s role explicit: situational awareness for a prototype unless and until the organization separately approves a production use.
